Have Applications Open In The Same Taskbar Place Without Pin
Nov 8, 2012
I prefer to have my browser button on the far left of the taskbar. This is why I have the browser pinned here and I use grouping. Now I was wondering if it was possible to NOT have it pinned here but still have the button in the same place if I open it.
Like for example, nothing pinned in the taskbar and I have explorer/taskmanager opened and I open my browser and have the button automatically placed at the far left instead of the 3d position in this example.
This has been driving me nuts since i've had 7, but i really don't want to have to install some program to eliminate it. i really don't think i should have to. Every time I have a folder open, when i open another one it opens tight on top of the first one, they always are the same size which i don't want either. In other versions of windows i was always able to get each particular folder to open where i want on the desktop and any size i want by simply putting stretching it to the size i want and putting it where i want then closing it. It would open there every time thereafter even after restarting.
I have a few programs that I like to load on Windows startup. Is there any way to have a program open in the same desktop location every time, rather than in the middle of the screen?
I'm using Windows 7 x64. I have placed the taskbar on top. I've noticed many applications will open at the top with the titlebar underneath the taskbar. This is extremely annoying and incredibly dumbfounding how Microsoft released Windows with this bug.
I need to allow full screen Windows applications overlapping task bar under Windows 7. The "auto hide" is not the option due to user requirements. One possible solution is to change the code of those applications to allow them overlapping task bar, but it will imply a lot of work as we have many of them already running at customer's side. The best would be just to remove programmatically the "topmost" style of task bar window, but my code failed to do that with the error 0x00000005 "Access denied".
i use window 7 home premium Gateway laptop NV52. yesterday, i opened file location on an icon on destop and on that interface, i tampered with the "open with" and my entire applications and files on windows changed. any of the "open with" options like window media, paint, picture viewer, adobe etc entirely changes my applications and files. even window files were affected. if i try opening a file, it will show me adobe reader or any few mentioned above cannot open this file. i tried using system restore and program access default on control panel but to no avail. so folders on my control panel attempts opening with any of the choosen file above. my exe. files cant open.
I cannot open many applications in Windows 7 including Firefox, MS Word, and Excel. Some that do open will freeze during use. I suspect that a virus or malware could be causing these problems. The applications open in Windows Safe Mode okay. Here's the Hijackthis and DDS log:
Logfile of Trend Micro HijackThis v2.0.4 Scan saved at 11:38:51 AM, on 08/01/11 Platform: Windows 7 SP1 (WinNT 6.00.3505) MSIE: Internet Explorer v9.00 (9.00.8112.16421) Boot mode: Safe mode with network support
It seems all my applications are acting up so I have to use a separate computer. I know its not a virus since I never accessed the internet but all my applications went hay-wire, if I double click for example: notepad, it tries to open up internet explorer then shuts that down and asks me to run or save the file application, either choice I make causes the screen requesting those two options to reappear over and over. It all started when I made my falloutnewvegas.exe try to open with the falloutnewvegaslauncher which was the only one allowing the game to launch. so after that every application has a internet explorer icon in the middle of it with a blank page.
Testing a windows 7 setup and have problems with the default save as/ open location not defaulting to the users home area. I have Googled this without success. Does anyone know of a script (or is able to write one?) which will batch convert a folder (+ subfolders) full of shortcuts so that they all open the application they link to (in the case, Microsoft Flight Simulator) in a maximized, not 'normal' window?
I have over a thousand of these shortcuts and opening each one's properties window and changing 'normal' to 'maximized' is not really an option!
Not really a 'Windows 7' question specifically of course, but maybe someone here will know anyway?
I am having the weirdest problem with my computer. randomly my mouse will just stop opening programs/applications, i cannot click on anything in the taskbar etc. I have also tried a different mouse... & reformatted my computer back to the bare basics, reinstalled all the drivers to no avail. one minute i am playing BF3 fine or doing something else and down it goes... the only thing i can then do is reboot my system and go again.
computer, as I am not familiar with Windows 7. When he attempts to open an application (any application) it opens an "Open With" window with only IE 8 and Word Pad as the only recommended programs. He's figured a PITA work around by right clicking the application icon and selecting "Run as Administrator" and then it opens after clicking through the security window. My initial thought was that his account was somehow changed from an Administrator account to a standard account, but that proved incorrect.I'm thinking it's some virus or malware that's causing this, but I see no other apparent signs of infection (i.e. degradation in performance) and he is protected by a current Antivirus (Eset), so I'm also thinking there may be some corruption of his system files, but like I said, I'm a novice where Windows 7 is concerned.
I have Windows 7 Ultimate and when I try to open a folder such as My Computer from the desktop or the Start Menu it will not open. What happens is it appears as a pinned folder on the taskbar. Holding mouse over folder it opens the small preview pane but there is no way that I can get it to open full screen.
I've got a severe problem with Windows 7 which I cannot fix alone... The thing is that open (but minimized) documents (Excel, pdf, aso.) don't appear in the taskbar. The only way to switch thorugh open documents is via the task manager. Thus ist is very annoying to work...
First my taskbar disappeared. Somehow got it back but then my desktop icons disappeared. Now when I try to open say a Word document, it will not open full screen. I can only see it when I run my mouse over the Word icon on the task bar. The file appears about the size of a postage stamp. Same is true if I try to open a program from the start menu. Will not open but icon will appear on task bar. Am unable to do a thing to try and correct the problem because nothing actually opens. Desktop icons now appear to be in the taskbar as well.
I have internet explorer on my task bar and if i try to open it, it doesn't do anything. I can only see it at a very small size if I hover my mouse over the icon.It will also not open from the start menu
When I open Task Scheduler, I get the following error message: an error has occurred for task realupgradelogontasks-1-5-21-2172834406-3963835389-1001. error message:the specified account name is not valid. What does it mean and how do I get rid of the error message?
I have a lot of folders on my desktop and up until today I was easily able to open them with a double click. I haven't installed anything new. Now when I double click any folder it just docks in the taskbar but doesn't open. I click on the folder on the task bar but nothing happens!! Right-clicking only gives options for Windows Explorer (even that doesn't open and behaves as the normal folder does), unpin this folder from the taskbar, and close the folder.
I apologize - I know I made a post about this a while back, but I have since forgot what the solution was and so I have to ask again.Anyway, I have Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit. A problem I run into every once is when I click on a program icon in the taskbar that program never opens. This doesn't happen a lot, but enough to be annoying. I have never found any solution or even a clue to what could be causing this in all the forums and web sites I've visited.Whatever info you need me to post I will be glad to do it.
If I have more than one page open in IE I can hover the mouse over the IE icon on the taskbar and see what pages are open. This no longer works. I didn't install any programs and did not change any settings. The only change I recently did was change a setting in BIOS from 32bit to 64bit (I'm using Windows 7 64bit).
Computer woken up from sleep, go to task bar to open an app, get flashes of app when selecting app's icon on taskbar, but app doesn't open. However, some apps open and some apps don't. Those that do open, when left clicked on for a menu item, the app closes.Although an app opens it is not functional. The only way to restore normalcy is to hard close the computer and reboot, then everything is OK.
I have several open applications running. The icons display on the taskbar as running. After some time the icons will disappear. They are still running in task manager but are notvisible on the task bar. I can reboot andopen again and they will show.
I recently upgraded my FF 7.0.1 (or whatever the most up-to-date version of 7 is/was) to 8.0 and am noticing an issue. The problem I am experiencing is that when I launch FF (regardless if its done via the start menu or the button pinned to my taskbar), it adds a separate taskbar button (a la previous versions of Windows) instead of how Windows 7 normally handles such things. In addition to this, it also does not reflect having multiple tabs/windows open on the taskbar button (the attached image shows how the button for IE(9) displays the different tabs I have open in it, as well as the vertical lines next to the button which represent the number of tabs/windows open; however, the Firefox button does not function in either way, but you can see in the image that I have 3 tabs open in the browser window). Are these compatibility bugs between Windows 7 and Firefox (that the Mozilla devs need to address)?
I saw if some folks screen shots, that there must be a way to cause the open programs on the task bar to display wide.. Referring to sergio's theme, and a few others. I have dug into the taskbar options, but not struck gold, anyone know how this can be done?
This just happened before I restarted the computer and did the Last Known Good Configuration for it to boot up without freezing. Before this, I had some problems with the screen turning black with an active mouse for a few seconds before going to the desktop (after Welcome Screen).[CODE]
When I have multiple windows open [i.e. outlook is open with 4 emails open as well] and I hover over the Outlook folder in the toolbar which then shows previews of all the emails, I want the ability to close a single email and keep the others previewed. Right now, if I close one, the other open ones "auto minimize" I know this is an option as I've seen it operated the way I want it.
I push my system hard, and have the hardware to handle it (for example, 24G memory.) From time to time, I'll have an enormous amount of windows open. Right now, I have about 100 chrome windows open, with multiple tabs on each. Once there are more windows open than Windows can display vertically on my 1050px height monitor, it shows an up arrow at the top of the list it can display, and a bottom arrow at the bottom of the list it can display. If I hover over either of these arrows, it scrolls at about 3-4 windows per second, which can take forever to scroll to the bottom of the list (which is where the most recently opened windows appear.)
