View 1 RepliesI'm new here, guys, so don't shoot me down in flames if this has been covered. I've checked the search, but didn't come up with anything the same.I've just re-jigged the Good Lady's PC - it had some sort of virus. Wiped it & re-installed Win 7 Pro.Put back most of the stuff that was there & most everything works except anything that's a '.doc' file.Clicking on any one of those produces a 'Handle is Invalid' error & won't start. However, dragging & dropping on LibreOffice starts up the file & it can be edited. Saving it again does not fix the problemOne noticeable difference is that I have gone from MS Office XP to LibreOffice as the old XP was no longer opening some new file being sent to her (choir!).I am wondering if this may be the cause. I have a copy of MS Office 2010 & will try installing that & taking control of the .doc files. I'll see if that fixes it
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have setup the backup utility to use my network drive and create an image and copy the my doc folder. When I run the utility it will go through it's process for a long time before providing the following error information:
Check your backup
One of the backup files could not be created.
Details: The handle is invalid.
Error code: 0x8078002A
I am unfamiliar with what the error means and when I go to the network drive the backup zip files say they are also corrupt. Has anyone come across this, or have an idea as to what the problem may be?
When I try to connect a wireless modem, I get Error 6 "The handle is invalid" message. Whats the problem?

I have a system that I'd like to clone to an SSD. The source disk is an HDD that is currently using two partitions. I'd like to just move the C partition to an SSD, but my only question is, what cloning apps would allow the SSD to be recognized properly, or would Windows 7 pick up the fact it is an SSD drive and adjust the OS accordingly, including enabling TRIM.
If it matters, the SATA controller is already set to AHCI, and the target drive is a Crucial C300.
Forgot to mention, I had been using Partition Wizard 7.0 (bootable iso) in the past, but never with an SSD.
I rarely need to send/receive a FAX, but I would like to know how before I need to. In the past, I had a dialup FAX modem, but now I'm on cable, and I never thought about FAXing until just now. My printer also has a FAX function, but the only driver available for it on Windows 7 is the one that Windows 7/Windows Update installs. In the Windows FAX/Scan program, the scanner works perfectly, but When I try to creat a new FAX, it says that I need a FAX modem. I have no idea of whether my cable modem is capable of that or not, but when I select to send a FAX, a window appears stating that I need a fax modem or server, but when I select to use a local modem, an error appears saying that I need to contact the administrator (me). From the interface, the only thing that appears to be for setting this up is the Tools>Options menu, but when I click on that, nothing happens. The first question is whether it is typical for a cable modem to be able to handle a FAX or not?

It will have Intel Core i7-2600 processor(8MB Cache, 3.4GHz), 8GB DDR3 SDRAM at 1333MHz - 4x2GB,Nvidia Geforce GT530 and 500GB Serial ATA 2 Hard Drive 7200 RPM. I am replacing a HP media pc that I bought 4-5 years ago as it seems that the graphics card as well as other issues are about to make the motherboard fry. My son play's the 3D game Minecraft. I just want to make sure if he continues to play, that it won't do the same thing to this pc. I did some research and it seemed without moving up to Alien Ware this was the best I could do for the money.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI've put together a new clone system with the intent of running 64-bit Win 7 Pro on it. Until it becomes available, I have 32-bit XP Pro installed on it. Nothing is overclocked, in fact, the memory is "underclocked" for stability. I'd rather have it stable than gain some trivial performance improvement.
Previously, when I first built it up, I installed 64-bit Ubuntu "Jaunty" on it with 8 GB of RAM installed in it (4 X 2GB). The Linux distro installed and was perfectly stable.
To get a "heads up" on Win 7 issues, I downloaded and installed the trial Enterprise edition. Since I couldn't find any MD5 for the ISO, I downloaded the file twice and did a binary compare on the two downloads to ensure they were the same. Also, I see that the Java applet that downloads the ISO file also has some kind of "verify process" built-in that runs at the end of the download (a checksum?). I burned a DVD in XP Pro using Nero 8 with data verification on (after burning, it reads the burned disk and compares the disk's contents with the ISO file).
Since 32-bit XP Pro can't even fully use 4 GB, I uninstalled 4 of the 8 GB (two modules) when I installed XP on the box. When the entire 8 GB was in the MoBo, I ran MemTest86+ for long periods without errors. To do so, however, I had to "underclock" the memory to DDR2-800 speeds. It couldn't successfully run at DDR2-1066 speeds. A problem that, by checking various support BBS's, was found to be common with my MoBo and the RAM modules in question. After pulling the two modules, I left the memory timing at the conservative settings. I also let MemTest86+ run overnight and got no errors with the two modules installed. My plan is (or, was) to put the entire 8 GB of RAM back after I got 64-bit Windows 7 running on it.
One night while loging off,I noticed a small memo from "cnet" specifying that by running their testtracker software, i could isolate the reaon why i got the apparent error and a poosible clue as to what to do to alleviate it. i read the info on the memo and proceeded and found that a "date" was missing or had been unabled to be updated on a file due to the rules laid down and that prevented an update on he particular file. (only found that out much later.) the date was only the beginning and the the abilities of cnet and finding where to go in the application left me totally lost. i need help in in knowing ho and what exactly to do when the date is accidentally or intentionally changed. and what occurs after that point. does the date affect anything other area.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI've upgraded my PC and reinstalled the OS; spec shown below. The only difference is that now, my OS is on an SSD drive (OCZ Petrol). However, I note that my memory usage is constantly increasing; even with only background apps running, I was up to 7GB. When I check Task Manager, I see that the "System" process's "Handles" count is constantly increasing. As I speak, it's almost at 1,000,000; last night I saw it get up to 4,000,000.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a Windows 7 laptop, it has two network connections - one that I use at work; it is a hard wired connection (by DHCP - where the server automatically assigns an I.P. address), and the other wi-fi; which I use at home (again by DHCP where my modem / router assigns an I.P. address).
Recently I performed a Windows update (whilst at home - connected to my wi-fi network) and now when I take my laptop to work I am unable to connect to the internet. The Windows (2000) server knows that my computer is there, and I can access network shares, however I can't browse the web.
I had a look at my network settings by "ipconfig /all" and discovered that my "hard wired" connection is being supplied an invalid Gateway I.P.
Other computer on the network are not receiving an invalid Gateway.
As a temporary fix I have entered a static IP, however I am wondering if anybody knows what may cause my laptop to be assigned an incorrect Gateway IP, particularly when other computers on the work network are not experiencing this issue.
I have a Gateway FX6801-05 which originally had Wiindows Vista installed. I purchased a complete Windows 7 ultimate (not upgrade, not OEM) from eBay. I wiped the disk then installed and verified it without a hitch. Automatic updates has been working fine.Yesterday I changed some things around on my motherboard. When I booted Windows 7 Ultimate, which has been installed on my computer for several years now, it reported that my copy of Windows was invalid. Apparently the motherboard remembered the OEM Vista product number. I tried reauthorization both on the web and by phone using my new product key of Windows 7. The phone reauthorization doesn't even allow me to talk with a support person.Did I really buy an unauthorized Windows 7 ultimate, or is something weird going on here because VISTA OEM was originally installed on this computer?

At least I think I've got through the installation process - the problem starts soon after the bit where you have to name the computer. Soon after, the computer has to restart, but when it does there are some strange noises from the computer and an error flashes onto the screen for a second:Invalid BOOT.INI fileBooting from C:\windows\And then the screen just goes black. I had to boot it up using the Windows 7 CD again and I tried going on repair installation. It checked, tried and failed to repair. Under details it said "A recent driver installation or upgrade may be preventing the system from starting".I haven't added any new hardware during the installation process - all that was connected was the keyboard, USB mouse, monitor and power cable.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI am running a small network at my house, and I have a Win2003 server that seems to have problems. It doesn't boot anymore. One suggestion was to take the hard disk, connect it to another computer and work on it. Ok, so I did that. Took the HD from the 2003 machine, got a connection kit for USB and connected it to my Win7/64 notbook. Of course, that blew up my notebook-When I connected the HD, the laptop froze. Obviously, I had not choice but to remove the external hard drive and reboot. The reboot now ends up in a single line: Invalid Partition Table.I have tried the system Recovery Options on the DVD, but the automatic options don't work. So I need to find another way to restore the partition table.

It actually is part of suite of utilities that comes bundled with ASUS Mobo's. I have installed it a number of times in the past and have never had any problems. First thing I did was uninstall and re-install I used Revo Uninstaller in safe mode. The problem re-occurred so I then did a regular uninstall.Next I ran SFC.I got a bunch of errors (11) that were all Explorer.exe based. I then replaced Explorer with a fresh copy from the Windows 7 DVD. still Class not recognized. I don't use any of those Registry repair utilities as I have found them to be more detrimental then helpful. So far I have had no problems with any other Apps.
