Getting Access To Local Admin?
Nov 1, 2012
So, I had to send my original schoolcomputer in for repairing. My, very rude, I might add, IT-staff at school did not include local admin for the temporary computer. I did try to ask him for local admin, as I need to change certain network-settings in order for my update my network-drivers.When asking the IT-staff for local admin, reasoning with the fact that I cannot access the internet properly due to the drivers not being uptodate, they simply wrote me off, saying that I didn't need it. They did, however, challenge me get local admin, claiming that they wouldn't care as long as I didn't cause any harm to the computer.I have a normal local user, connected to the schooldomain. It is still connected to the domain-name after leaving the schoolnetwork, where my username is DOMAIN\username. I am not able to access BIOS, do any changes in group policy or system32, and naturally, all the CMD-commands we did at junior high when we were twelve does not work. The BIOS is set to automatically boot from the HDD; thus any tricks involving .iso files and CD/USB-drives will not work.

I'm trying to run a script at the end of sysprep that will add a Domain group to the local Admins group. I found a few scripts while searching around, but none will work for my application.
This is what I have so far.
Code :SET objNet = CREATEOBJECT("WScript.Network" )' Set the user you want to make local administrator herestrUser = "<username here>"strNetBIOSDomain = objNet.UserDomainstrComputer = objNet.ComputerNameSET objGroup = GETOBJECT("WinNT://" & strComputer & "/Administrators,group" )SET objUser = GETOBJECT("WinNT://" & strNetBIOSDomain & "/" & strUser & ",user" )' ignore error if user is already a member of the groupON ERROR RESUME NEXTobjGroup.Add(objUser.ADsPath)ON ERROR GOTO 0
The problem I'm having is that I need to be able to provide a username and password of a domain admin so that it can authenticate. how to do this when I try to add the user.

DC: Win Server 2003
Laptops: Win7 Pro
When joining a set of laptops to the domain it prompts for domain admin credentials and appears to be successful, but gives an error of 'Changing the Primary Domain DNS name of this computer to " " failed. The name will remain domain.local The error was: The RPC Server is unavailable.
When attempting to add Domain Users to the local administrators group: Windows cannot process the object with the name "domain users" because of the following error: The RPC server is unavailable.
This happens even when wired on the network. I have tried uncommenting the localhost line in HOSTS, and manually adding the DNS server (which is also the DC).

we upgraded from sbs2003 server to sbs2008 server. We removed the pc from the old domain and then added it to the new domain. Something went wrong after we joined the new domain it doesn't see the new domain for login and the local Administrator account has been disabled. The only account available is the guest account. Is there a way to enable the local administrator account again?

So a new box recently built, when booted, defaults to the local administrator account. This is a Windows 7 machine for a Linux guru that doesn't want to be bothered pressing more buttons than is necessary, if you get my drift. So my question is, after pressing Ctrl+Alt+Del...how do I dictate to Windows that the preferred used is "HisDomainAccount" on our company domain, as opposed to the local admin account?

I am using my desktop as a guest and cannot get on as administrator. I may have done something silly to make this happen, messing about with account perms and such when I got my MCITP book... Can use the computer a s a guest but I can't use Restore Point, can't use Run as Administrator, SpyBot has found issues I can't deal with without Admin access and neither can I do a back up before a wipe and reload. I have tried net user * from cmd and also OphCrack-which did find my guest password, but also said Admin account was Disabled. This problem was discovered when I tried remoteing in from my laptop. I have "something" in my D

I will cut straigh to the point! I am wondering if it's possible to set up a VPN to connect to a PC on another network so i can access the other machines on that network. e.g If I have an office with a router and 1 pc connected to the internet and 4 more machines conected to the router but not going out to the internet. Is it possible to connect to that machine via VPN so then it would be as if you were on that network to then be able to access the PC's on the network?

We have a scenario where a number of developers residing on a less secure network have access to Windows 7 virtual machines. Access is via the standard RDP protocol. In the domain that these machines reside we would wish to set in group policy access to the local machine USB devices. However, we would also wish to ensure that we block access to the local drives on the client. Looking through group policy are able to block acccess to all local devices channels but cannot configure or find solution where we can just access the USB (removable media devices). Looking through forums it appears that this is only available on Remote Desktop Services for 2008 R2 server.

I upgraded my OS a few months ago to 64 bit with new components etc. I kept all of the old system files and folders JUST for if it went wrong, now ive sorted them all out, the old system files, and adobe is locked for some reason? I keep trying to change all of the administration but it just jumps straight back to before, but hey, im in no hurry to change it, its only 15gb of useless copies! Its just niggling at me and i would like to get it sorted if theres any other way? ie changing the admin account so i can change - everything-, as I'm not exactly new with computers, been studying them for years.
- Also, a little off topic if anyones got enough time to add some wisdom to the thread, ive just bought a super duper cooler for my CPU as when i run on normal settings on a game I play, LotrO, the manufacturers fan goes mad, and it really gets my goat making a loud whirring sound, would I be able to run on High-Ultra with a duel core amd athlon 2? with that fan I have "Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro Socket 775 CPU Cooler" it wouldnt make any sound as its made for being quiet and cool very well. i suppose the only sign of the strain is artifacts in-game?

I have managed to lose access to admin account and non of the tricks to get it back will work for me.My folks have a new dell lappy. The first admin account I set up for them. I created a second admin account for myself which I wanted hidden (ctrl alt del at welcome screen). So in 1 session, I enabled ctrl alt del through netplwiz; edited the registry to make my admin account hidden, and lowered my folks account to standard user. After restart, ctrl alt del wont work at welcome screen so i cannot access admin account.I have tried running command prompt as admin and activating administrator account but i get 'type 5' error.I cannot run gpedit.msc, get a not found errorI cannot make any changes in safe mode that a standard user cannot make.so feel free to call me a muppet or whatever, but please help, there must b a way without having to recover back to factory settings

I created a new account for myself and made it an admin account. I then removed the admin priviliges in my sisters account. Somehow now both are standard user accounts and anything i try to do is blocked by an admin password.
Noone has ever entered a password for the admin accounts so i have no idea what this could be. It is not giving me a hint or any help at all. I would rather not have to reboot the whole thing as it's very time consuming.

I have just reinstalled Windows 7 64 bit and it won't see my local network. I'm running a hardwired network, my switch is a netgear RP614 set to act as a dhcp server. I had the 32bit version of windows 7 installed and that picked up its network address fine to start with and then just stopped working. I have tried hardcoding the ip address onto the network card but that makes no difference. My xp machine connected to the same network works fine.
It appears that windows 7 isn't picking up the ip address from the dhcp server as it should. it gets a default address of 169.254.107.37 whereas my network is 192.168.0.0 I have put in the default gateway and the dns server addresses that my isp uses but this makes no difference.
I have tried turning off the dhcp flag as recommended by microsoft in case that is the problem but that made no difference and it was working under 32 bit for a while without the flag turned off.
I have installed the nforce drivers in case it was the windows drivers causing the problem that made no difference. I have run a network capture and that shows that it is seeing the dhcp packets from the dhcp server.
I have done everything I can think of and everything I can find recommended by Microsoft but all to no avail. Any help with this greatly appreciated as I really like windows 7 and don't want to have to downgrade my system.

I'm not really sure when this problem started, but as the admin account and only real user (I set up another account to test my problems) on my HP Laptop, I cannot access the user accounts on my computer. I've tried to access them multiple ways, including through the control panel and directly through the start menu, but when I try to click on anything having to do with the user accounts on my pc, nothing happens. So I am unable to change my password, change my picture, or add or remove other accounts. It's almost like I'm not an administrator. However, according to multiple places on my computer, my account is still an administrator. Also, some programs do not launch unless I chose to launch them as an admin by right clicking, is that normal?
So to summarize my situation, I don't think my admin account is giving me proper access to my computer, limiting the things I can do.

why, when connecting wirelessly under Windows 7, to a wireless access point I am unable to change the "Network Type" from Public to Home, thus no connection to the Internet is allowed? I cannot change any of the parameters of the network at all. Under XP on the same network I have no problems at all.I have set up three access points by simply adding additional wireless modems (of the same brand as the primary modem), turning off DCHP and U PnP and assigning a unique IP address, to avoid DCHP conflicts (as I understood it).Which change would I have to make to the access points such that Windows 7 fully recognises each access point and allow me to assign them to type "Home"?

i have big mindf*** going on here..i have 3 computers,
A - Windows 7 ultimate x64 (PC) (LAN connected)
B - Windows 7 professional x64 (laptop) (WLAN connected)
C - Windows 7 ultimate x32 (laptop) (WLAN connected)
Theyre all connected on the same HUAWEI B260a wireless gateway, and theyre all under the same workgroup and connected within a homegroup Standard shared public libraries (music, picture..) are visible and accessible for all of them with each other.PROBLEM is @ network location
1) when i access from computer A to comp's B hard drive partition its all ok but it cannot access shared partition on computer C (but its visible)
2) computer B cannot access either one of their partitions
3) computer C can access everything and all All of the HDs partitions are shared?
how can i share my PARTITIONS and make them accessible for each computer without having permission troubles?ive even assigned static ip adresses for each computer (though they comunicate with each other ok so it wasnt necessary to do that)ofc, partitions are shared, FWs are disabled, all of the necessary services are enabled, there are no AVs blocking traffic - but because of line under * stated above, nothing of this is actually important?
