Generic Printer To File Does Not Print?
Feb 28, 2010Got windows 7 on new computer and need to install a printer = generic print to file, generic text. It installs but does not print when try a test page or document. get error message "can not open" IT goes through all the steps correctly and shows up as a printer but doesn't work. Tried the trouble shooter but nothing.

Jun 27, 2009I am having difficulties accessing the network share to my Windows 2000 printer [printer attatched via USB to Win2000 computer, shared among all computers]. Both computers are behind a router, and are on the same workgroup.
My Vista machine did not have any problems accessing this printer or authenticating to Windows 2000, but Windows 7 seems to. The problem is when I go to connect to the PC, I am prompted for a username and password, but upon entering a valid one, it does not connect and comes back as invalid.
I attempted to navigate to the share manually through the "add pritner" device, but this did not work either. [Giving //computername/printer]
Using Windows7 RC1, build 7100 and Windows 2000 SP4. No difficulty sharing or authenticating on the LAN with any other OS.
Cannot Install Printer On Windows 2000 For Windows 7 Machine?
Jan 30, 2012I have an old machine running Windows 2000 professional which I use as a printer server for a peer to peer network. My XP machine can see the computer and has the printer installed with no issues.Initially my Windows 7 (Home Premium) machine could detect but not access the 2000 machine. I found the fix (creating/setting the LmCompatibilityLevel key to a Dword of 1) and now I can sign on to the 2000 and access its files. (I ran the refreshpolicies commands on the 2000 also).When I try to instal the printer as a local printer it appears to instal. The existing driver is recommended (and accepted). When I print the test page it does not print. On the windows 7 the print queue eventually shows the page as having an error, while the print queue on the windows 2000 machine is empty throughout

When I uninstall the Generic Windows 7 HD Audio Device Driver The driver is automatically re-installed on restart.
Windows 7 Premium does not have GpEdit.msc installed. An earlier version I came across (version 1.0 on the internet) has limited capability.

Generic Icons After Bad Driver Install?
Jul 28, 2010Working on a fresh install of Windows Ultimate. Got everything in place, programs, etc. Still trying to troubleshoo the built-in webcam problem (not starting up, "Need WIA driver" stuff). I found a driver for it from the manufacturer but right away I noticed it didn't work, the cam didn't work and so I attempted to roll back the driver. I then noticed that generic icons replaced many of the icons in my Start menu and task bar. I decided to do a system restore back to the point before I tried the new driver. No dice. Same problem exists. Then I went searching the forums for some ideas, many of which include deleting and rebuilding the icon cache, making the cache bigger, cleaning the dead entries from the registry, etc. I tried manually fixing the icon (replacing them) but the "change icon" command returns "cannot find" icon file. I went to look in the Windows/Installer folder and there is NOTHING in there except for a $PatchCache$ folder. The shortcuts for the generic icons do lanch their applications properly, fortunately. I've tried a lot of stuff, but nothing seems to work. This is so annoying. I put a lot of work into rebuiliding this system and I don't want to have to rebuild it all over again. All because of a stupid, lousy little web cam driver!

I was a frequent user of the OS - Windows XP and my driver worked fine, I could play many low quality and few high quality games. But I tend to get infected when I was on XP. So I switched to a new OS - Windows 7 Ultimate 32-bit (6.1, Build 7601) it automatically installed a the current driver I have as of now. When I try to play games on it, they will not work. When I try to play the Windows 7 Card game it lags terribly. I have done things such as the Windows Experience Index, Updating my driver via device manager, dxdiag, and several blogs and help sites. If possible can anyone help me or reccommend drivers that are compatible with my current OS and is substantially better than the piece of crap driver I have now?
