Gateway Dvd Does Not Show In Menu
Oct 5, 2012DVD drive {D:} stopped showing in menu. Deleted upper & lower from registry as suggested. Rebooted, etc. etc. Did a system recovery back to when it did work - still N/G.

Install Menu Won't Show Up?
Jun 14, 2010I accidentally installed 32 bit windows 7 on my pc earlier today. As such, I've been trying to do a clean install of the 64 bit from the windows 7 OEM disk.I seem to be running into a problem though, once the computer boots from the Windows 7 disk nothing happens. I get the load bar for "windows is verifying files" (not sure if that's what it is exactly, but it's something like that.)After the load is done, the generic startup/shutdown screen for Windows 7 shows up, the pointer switches over to show me it's busy for about 3 seconds, then nothing else happens. I tried waiting ~10 minutes and still, nothing happens.

May 22, 2012I'm just migrating over to Windows 7, and am having a hard time with the start menu. I've downloaded Classic Shell so the menu looks like XP again, but I noticed that when I look at 'all programs' some of my programs aren't there. Turns out Windows 7 has two program folders, apparently one is for purely 64-bit programs and the other for ones that still use 32-bit. Does anyone know how I can get both of these folders to show up in the start menu, preferably combined? At the moment, I can only find the 64-bit folder, and can't find the 32-bit folder in the start menu at all.

Jan 1, 2011A while back I used a few different programs to tweak Windows 7. One of the programs I used caused the recently used programs to stop showing up in the star menu. Under properties now I can't even set the number of programs to show because it is grayed out and unselectable. Any body know how to get this function back? I have ran SFC to see if there was something corrupt in Windows 7 with no errors returned. I think there is something turned off in the registry but have no idea where to look.

Seems most users with this issue report having a Dell computer but mine is a Toshiba Satellite L505. I just find it very annoying to have approximately half inch of desktop space visible on top of any type maximized window, browser window, explorer window, whatever.

Last night I installed Windows 7 (x64) on a separate partition.
Anytime I had tried this in the past, using Vista, it always detected the Windows XP partition, and gave me a boot menu with "Earlier Version of Windows" option to boot to.
This is not so with Windows 7.
How can I get the boot menu to show both options, to boot to XP or to Windows 7?

Aug 25, 2011I'm putting together a slide show of 3D images that I want to show on my TV next week when we have company.I would like the images to stay on the screen a little longer without having to actually create a slide show in some special application like Premiere.
The Slide Show function in Explorer works great if I can control the timing.
HDDs Show In BIOS, But Do Not Show In Disk Management
Oct 14, 2011just completed a first-time new Windows 7 PC build. Successful installation of Windows 7 Pro on WD 600GB 10000 system drive. Went back and installed 4 additional HDD. (2) WD Caviar Black 1TB 7200 RPM and (2) WD Caviar 7200 500GB HDD from XP system that were used for storage.
BIOS sees all HDDs, but are not viewable in Disk Management.
System Specs:
Antec Nine Hundred
ASUS P6X58D-E MOBO

However, only three are visible in Disk Management. Missing (1) WD 500GB (previously used on WinXP system) and (1) new WD 1T.

-wireless network connection doesn't have a valid IP configuration
-the default gateway is not available
-the dns server is not responding
-the connection b/w your access point, router, or cable modem and the internet is broken.The most common error I get is the default gateway is not available.
Backup Files Will Only Show Up If Click Show Hidden Files And Folder?
Sep 24, 2012I was using my desktop like normal then an error came up saying that there was a hdd failure, and that i needed to scan for errors. all my files disappeared and only this error would come up. There would be hundreds of the same msg spamed on my screen. I scaned my hdd for errors using my Bios/Advanced options and no errors came up. I decided to take out the hdd and put it into my External Hdd bay to hook up to my laptop to extract the data off it.When i hooked it up to my laptop it showed up empty. I went into folder options and clicked on show hidden files and folders. Everything came up but it was grey/transparent. I then copied the files to another hdd for backup.
Then i formatted the hdd and put on a fresh new OS. Id like to mention i have a second internal drive that i use for backups but it wasnt backed up recently when this issue happen so i had to take out the main drive and use it as an external to back up onto another external drive.so then when i click on my second internal drive after the reinstall of the new OS it shows empty i have to go in and show hidden files and folders.. now they show again transparent. also i plug in my external to get the recent back up and all those files are still transparent when i move them to my desktop that is freshly OS installed they are still grey/transparent and i have to keep the show hidden files and folders to view them.. so its all my music, pics, documents etc they are all greyed out..i tried to copy my backup IE favs into my new IE browser and they wont show up because they are hiden it shows it copied to the favs folder but in ie i cannot view them if that makes any sense.

Aug 13, 2011My new Gateway desktop will not boot up. It's 5 months old, bought from Best Buy, has the recommended Kasperski anti-virus software installed when we brough it home. It has Kodak printer installed also bought new and properly installed. When I try to 'resolve the problem', it indicates that "The default gateway is not available". I've updated all things I could update (including VAIO related, Windows update, as well as the driver of the WIFI card) but the problem remains. In contrast, my flatmates manage to connect to the Wifi network. Also, I can have internet through the ethernet cable. FYI, my Wifi card is ATHEROS AR9285 Wireless Network Adapter. The first 2 weeks or so i had aboslutely no problems, but after that the internet started to cut out randomly, it wouldn't completely disconnect, it would just show an exclamation mark over the wireless signal icon.The only way to temporarily fix it is to troubleshoot the network, and all it tells me is that "The default gateway is not available." Once i troubleshoot it the internet runs fine for a period of time, could be 30 seconds, could be 2 hours, but then it stops working again. I've searched online for weeks for a solution but nothing has worked. it's quite frustrating when your a big online gamer

Invalid Gateway IP On Laptop
Jul 25, 2011I have a Windows 7 laptop, it has two network connections - one that I use at work; it is a hard wired connection (by DHCP - where the server automatically assigns an I.P. address), and the other wi-fi; which I use at home (again by DHCP where my modem / router assigns an I.P. address).
Recently I performed a Windows update (whilst at home - connected to my wi-fi network) and now when I take my laptop to work I am unable to connect to the internet. The Windows (2000) server knows that my computer is there, and I can access network shares, however I can't browse the web.
I had a look at my network settings by "ipconfig /all" and discovered that my "hard wired" connection is being supplied an invalid Gateway I.P.
Other computer on the network are not receiving an invalid Gateway.
As a temporary fix I have entered a static IP, however I am wondering if anybody knows what may cause my laptop to be assigned an incorrect Gateway IP, particularly when other computers on the work network are not experiencing this issue.
Default Gateway Can't Be Found
Apr 6, 2011I have a Dell Inspiron 1545 laptop, running Windows 7. Up until this morning everything was working fine (I've had it approximately 3 mos.), I haven't downloaded anything today or had any other problems, HOWEVER, suddenly my internet connection went out. That is to say, It still says I have full bars and that I'm 'connected' but it's an 'unidentified network' with no access to the internet or network. I've looked through a million help files today and tried them all and none of them have worked. I even used system restore to a month ago and it hasn't worked. I disabled all Mcafee products (expired anyway.) I called my internet provider and after they decided it was the computer and not the wireless they connected me to Dell, Dell definitively decided it's not a hardware problem but were going to make me pay to connect me to a software person. As far as I can see the network is set up correctly - the same as it's always been, and unlike all the other posts I've seen on it.. it does NOT work when I hook up an ethernet cable. My desktop is still working fine (obviously, I'm posting. lol.) When I run system diagnostic it resets the network configuration (doesn't help) and then tells me to investigate router or modem issues. (Also doesn't help.) There is no exclamation point or question mark etc. under Device Manager by my Dell Wireless card.
