So.... for some strange reason when I log in as administrator onto one of my user's accounts sometimes the administrator account will randomly take ownership of files and encrypt them.Sometimes the fix is easy and all I have to do is go to the select files and unencrypt them, however sometimes it tells me I don't have access and won't .... when i'm the admin!

Was there ever any kind of resolve for Forced Automatic Refresh & Sorting of files and folders in Windows 7 (I'm not talking about Auto Arrange and I need that like it is)
It's when you copy/paste files into a folder and they instantly disperse and sort themsleves upward within the list of files, instead of staying at the bottom of the list Waiting until a refresh/close action to then find their place.
When I turn my computer off I get the error: 1 program need to close: Iexplorer.exe, Which I don't have it open. Even if I opened it I closed it. This started doing this today.
View 9 Replies View RelatedMy PC will not shutdown properly. When I try to shutdown a screen will appear saying 'Sidebar.exe' asking me to force the shutdown. All of the Gadgets disappear but it only leaves one Gadget, the currency gadget on the desktop and then the forced shutdown screen appears asking me to force shutdown. I think the Sidebar.exe stops responding at shutdown. This started to happen not long ago and happens everytime. I am running Windows 7 64 bit. Now not only the currency gadget, it seems other gadgets too. I had done some checks on my own like closing the gadgets and see if it happens, and it still happens.
View 2 Replies View RelatedRecently I've been working in word and then suddenly the computer started to shutdown and install some update. After that it rebooted and restored everything (much like after hibernation). Why did this happen? Shouldn't I get some sort of info that the update requires the system to reebot and let me decide WHEN I want that to happen? Is it some new microsoft policy to do that?
My updates are set to automatically download and install.
I've just ran into a problem with my Sony Vaio laptop. It froze when I was using it, and I was forced to force it to shut down. Now i can't boot into Windows anymore. I've tried starting the recovery, but it just got stuck there too. Even The safe mode does not work. It hangs when it's loading the avgidseh.sys driver, but when searching for this it seemed that this is not avg related. The most important thing is to have my files back, but I don't want to buy a case for the HDD and reformat if there could be another solution. I've also ran a memory scan and it reported no errors, then booted into recovery mode which then hang again. Currently I'm leaving it trying to start up the whole night, but it's already taking 30 minutes at startup animation...
View 6 Replies View RelatedFirst off, let me say that I realize that turn off my computer during the update configuration was a terrible idea.Anyway, there isn't much I can say besides that my computer just won't start up. I've tried safe mode, I've tried system restores, but they both failed. I'd supply you with crash logs, but I'm not entirely sure how.All attempts at a system restore failed and came up as an error, and when I tried to do a disk check, it said my disc was write protected.Let me know if there is any more information I can supply.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a Windows 7 laptop bought less than a year ago which is experiencing some weird symptoms. On startup, the login screen comes up rather quickly, but takes about 10-15mins to load Windows, eventually landing me in a temporary profile.The computer seems to freeze when using video after ~15 minutes of viewing also. The stress has lead to at least one BSOD, which I couldn't obtain fast enough. Every attempt to go into the event viewer freezes the computer if let run enough, with loading bars realted to "snap-in" not functioning correctly. The same occurs in safe mode, with windows taking even longer to run and flat out freezing the computer upon trying to open the event viewer.Occasionally, and in the same event of the BSOD, I can hear a clicking inside the machine, which I believe but cannot be sure is the hard-drive. I want to check this on the event viewer but cannot open it.I want to attempt to re-install windows but have lost the disc. I know of other ways to get around this but want to try all available options before doing this. This issue very much sounds to be hardware related anyway, but being unable to view the event viewer I cannot pin down this error. I have MSE on the computer with scans being done in safe and normal modes which nothing found.

View 9 Replies View RelatedMy com is running on Windows 7 Home Premium 32bit, and one day I was starting up the com and it took really long to take me to the home screen, so I forced shut down it when the screen was still black (used a no GUI boot). After the restart the message explorer.exe is not responding and it keeps repeating. I've read some other solutions like running the sfc (did it twice) or copy-and-pasting explorer.exe from windows folder to system32 folder all didn't help.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI was transferring about 150gb of files into my external hard drive, and left it alone as I went on with my day. I came home to an error, I should've paid more attention but it said something about an I/O error, and the files stopped transferring (or seemed to have stopped). Everything was really slow, I couldn't even open task manager (It actually opened up a long while after I hit ctrl+shift+esc) I couldn't close any of my programs (I have visual paradigm, which took about 400k of memory, skype [70k], chrome [200k], and some other stuff.
I noticed svchost was 150k, but i don't know what that means. I finally closed all processes except for the file transfer screen, which said it was transferring but no numbers were changing. I hit cancel, waited. Could not safely remove hardware, it would not load the options. After about a half hour I gave up and force shut down my computer by holding the power button. I tried turning it back on immediately, with the external harddrive still attached. It froze at the windows start up screen, where it said Windows is Starting...
But there was no swirly balls moving around if you know what I mean, it just had the text. Tried restarting again, same thing. Tried restarting and opening ubuntu, and it froze at the purple screen. Tried restarting again with the harddrive recovery, and it froze at a black screen, but I could still see my mouse and move it around. Restarted it again and now it brings up some text with PXE, media not plugged in insert a device and hit a key, something like that. I'm afraid of turning it on again, so I'm leaving it off for a while.
Adobe CS6 suite was working fine when I crashed using After Effects. I now get crashes or locking when rendering in After Effects or Premier Pro. Adobe Media Encoder won't even launch. I created a new user account they all run fine (so far). Same thing on my old machine running CS4.
1) Fixing my original user account (registry edit? some corrupt file somewhere?)
2) Transferring or recreating all my accounts, libraries, shortcuts, etc. to the new account and delete the old one. Is there an easy way to do this? Currently using Windows 7-64 (Pro)
When I choose "SLEEP" it only turns off the monitor , normally when the PC sleeps you can hear everything turn off and the power button glows... it does this if i leave it for 25 minutes (as thats how long its set too wait before sleeping) - but when I manually force sleep it seems to simply turn off the monitor? you can hear alll fans and hard-drive still going, when i wake it its at the login screen

When I look at the USB stick using Windows Explorer or via a Dir command through a DOS prompt, I don't see any files on the USB stick.Is this normal? Is there no way to make a copy of the stick, I would have thought I would have seen files on it.

I need something SIMPLE - I would like to open Firefox, type in my message, click on ENCRYPT then have the program encrypt it so the receiving person can enter a key (which I have already provided) and then the msg would automatically decrypt. I have downloaded a few and they either needed keys/certificates (which I never received/downloaded); would not find the window in 'focus' so got "no text seen" msgs; needed true mail programs like Outlook or Thunderbird; could NOT make a self decrypting msg (once provided key was entered by the recipient <as they may not have the encryption program installed on THEIR computer>) and on....I really don't want to create the text in a Word window - encrypt it and then cut and paste into the Firefox msg window. Does anyone know of or IF such a program does exist?? Thought I had it in a program called Flexcrypt but cannot get it to encrypt as it is supposed to.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have been having some issues when trying to turn Bitlocker on in C:
I have followed the instructions as per this forum to enable a Startup key in gpedit.msc as I don't have TPM which worked.
After following the instructions, Windows Bitlocker asked me to insert a USB to save the startup key to. This appeared to save and then moved onto the next step where I took down the recovery key etc. and finally restarted to make sure my system was compatible before encryption started.
Upon restart, Windows said that it couldnt find a key on the USB drive. After further investigation I found that windows did not save the key to the USB after all even checked as a hidden file. It will save the text file (recovery key) to usb but not the bek file for the startup key.
I have tried this several times but each time it wont save although the system doesn't say there has been a problem and moves on to the next stage.
The USB is a 2gb cruzer with the smart drive software removed and re-formatted to NTFS. I have also tried this on other USB drives with no luck and the USB drives work as Iam able to write other things to it?
When configuring connection for netflix they ask for encrpytion key?

I formatted C: and re-installed Win7, just to notice i can't access some of my important files on another drive.So, i thought several possibilities of recovery, and i appreciate if you guys could express if any of the options below are viable.
1) Since i didn't back up my encryption key, where is the original one located? (if i use some recovery program to restore it)
2) Can i use recovery programs to restore pre-format a) user account, or b) encryption key, or c) windows (which actually then works)?
3) I remember the password i used to encrypt the files, so can i just make a new encryption key and kind of import it to my present windows to decrypt those files?
4) Does "Advanced EFS Data Recovery" or some other encryption key recovery tool work for my problem?
My flat mate set up a security thing called Drive Encryption for HP ProtectTools. What this does is, upon start up, before it lets you load windows, you need to enter a password and pin. Clearly, it is anoying, so he handed it to me to get rid of it. It will not uninstall, as it says it is still active, and must be deactivated. I went into services - found it - disabled it. I went into some .msc thing i saw on the HP forums, disabled it. I went into the BIOS - Disabled it. I have disabled every aspect of it, however, it will still not uninstall, and continues to ask for a password and pin prior to windows starting.
View 6 Replies View RelatedNew drive 1gb external, running bitlocker for the first time. Left it overnight cos it was taking forever, (which is the norm)
Woke up this morning and it was stuck on something like 47.1% requesting the bitlocker password, put that in and it starts encrypting again.... But every few random mins it falls over with an error message:
An Error Occurred The System cannot find the file specified. And prompts me to put my bitlocker password back in, for which I do, and the encrpytion starts again.
Its like at 50% now, after it falling over 3 times in the last 30mins.. I'm not exactly what to do.. I cant sit here for the next 10hrs waiting for it to fall over every few mins asking for the password.
I'd be up for scrapping the whole encrpytion and starting all over again.. But not exactly sure on how to permantely un-crypt the drive and reformat it ? Perhaps running a scandisk before doing so... It was a brand new drive.
I can actually still access the data, because autoplay opens after every error allowing me to see and open the files.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI know about EFS, but I am doing 3 laptops, one runs Windows 7 Home Premium and the other 2 run Vista Home Premium, none of them have EFS.
So what I am looking to do, is find a program that will let me encrypt a users home directory but not something where it has to be manually encrypted/decrypted, looking for something similar to what EFS does where it will encrypt/decrypt on the fly.
I like to get my OS to be genuine. But, I only qualify for a Home Upgrade.
Anyone know of a way to still use this feature?

Can you recommend a Windows 7 compatible encryption program that will encrypt the whole hard drive? I checked the true-crypt website, but Windows 7 is not listed as supported yet. I'm currently using RC1 and when I get my RTM copies they will be Home Premium (so not Bitlocker).
View 6 Replies View RelatedWhile using BitLocker Drive Encryption feature, i selected the settings for using the USB to store the security key. But, once I restarted my PC, BitLocker didn't recognized the USB and went into recovery mode.
Can anyone suggest as to why the USB key was not taken into consideration?
basically i just want something where I can right click a folder in windows 7 and choose "encrypt" or something similar, and then be able to enter a password. then from that point forward, when i try to click on that folder it will prompt me for that password before it will let me view it.i don't need to encrypt entire volumes, just a few folders here and there?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI downloaded a 5 day trial of their product. I made an encrypted "Locker" as they call it, and copied some files into it. Next day I could not open it. Message is: "Invalid Locker. Locker file is either corrupted or not a valid Locker file." I created a second one, and it is OK so far. Anyone else have this problem?2nd problem is I chose that the lockers be closed when I log off. They aren't. Any other user, even "Guest" can rifle thru my encrypted files.
