View 1 RepliesMy laptops stuck in a startup repair loop. Start up repair is unable to fix the problem and sends me to recovery manager. However, before I move on to getting my computer back under control (wich will be on another thread on another day)Theres tons of websites and stuff on there that id never ever find again if I lost them now. I used the file backup program in recovery manager to back up stuff like music, pictures, documents, and among other things, internet settings. What I want to do now is go into my flash drive and find where all my favorites are. I went to the only other computer in the house besides my hp, a mac, and plugged in my memory stick. What's in it is nothing I understand.ow Im sitting in front of the mac, typing out my situation on the sevenforums.com and just wishing there was a simple way to get my favorites up on the screen...Or at least understand enough of whats inside the memory stick to be able to extract them once my laptop is fixed.

View 6 Replies View RelatedOk, so my laptop pooed its pants and decided to break after numurous half successful attempts to fix it, as i had established it was a harddrive problem, i backed up my files onto 3 disks and system reset my laptop.I automatically backed them up, what i mean is i let the computer do it for me it scanned them and put them onto the disk and what not. So it got reset and i booted it back up did all the hoo haa and eventually got back to the main bit. it never explained to me how to re add all my backed up data and even though it recommends using disks whenever it mentions backing up data, when you look around the help pages all it talks about is internal backing up, so it gives you no clue of how to re-add all this data, which is very frustrating. It has all saved as .wim files, don't know why.
View 2 Replies View Relatedthe storage disk in my server went bad (after 3 months!) and when I got the new one I copied everything over but some of the files aren't working right now.Specifically the video files that we stream over serviio. They look right, they're still the same size, if you go to properties it still shows them as .avi files, but they won't run.Is there someway that I can repair these files? I tried an .avi repair tool but it doesn't see the files as .avi.
View 9 Replies View RelatedStarted using robocopy to do my backups. In my command lines, i can specify directories on a external drive to backup to.Some directories show up and i see everything. My most important directory " my documents" DOESNT SHOW UP. I have confirmed a backup is occuring, via log file and properties on the backup folder. I edited it down to a backup of only that folder. Log file shows good, external drive shows the "backup" root directory and properties ( size, number of files) match log file. Open up the backup folder, NOTHING LISTED. I have to run the script as adminstrator , my user is admin also, but if i run it as myself, it cant access the folder. I think im dealing with a rights issue, i have edited security on the external drive, even reformatted it , still nothing shows up?

Since I installed Windows and all those HP apps (some of them apparently required to access BIOS) I got this shortcut on desktop and I cannot remove it. Deleting it manually does not work and the shortcut does not appear in User/Desktop or Public/Desktop folders. Right clicking it does not show the usual menu but this so I cannot get the location of the file. Also, the Remove Icon option does nothing not even in Safe Mode. How to get rid of this? Some suggested to reinstall the app however this also does not work.
View 4 Replies View Relatedmy computer, a Lenovo Idea pad P580 running on Windows 7, is 5 weeks old and yesterday I was using Microsoft Word to edit a document and Word suddenly crashed. So I closed it, but then the cursor started spinning and I could not access anything on my computer so I rebooted and it started up but then just trying to open Microsoft Word caused the cursor to keep spinning again and I could not access anything. So I again rebooted and this time it was spinning from the beginning. So I again rebooted and turned it on in safe mode and everything was fine. Then turned it off and left it off overnight. In the morning I tried to boot in normal mode and it did boot but it was again spinning and I could not access anything. So I again rebooted in safe mode and I can use my computer fine. And also, this is unrelated, but I was wondering if anyone could tell me what I need to do to make the scroll bar stop moving on its own? Every time I scroll down a page it seems to lock the scroll bar and so when I move the cursor away from the scroll bar, the scroll bar still moves and I cannot click any links or anything on that webpage.

To do this, I thought I would create a Windows Explorer shortcut in Windows 7 that pointed to the XP mode environment. The shortcut creation method doesn't seem to work for non-application shortcuts. How can I access (in Windows 7) or move files (to Windows 7) that are created in XP mode? I have a Canon camera that uses an XP only utility to communicate with the camera. The files are moved from camera to XPM environment. I need to work with the files in Windows 7.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI notice that one of my backup programs has selected all the folders in my User folder to be backed up. Among those selected is the hidden folder AppData, containing 8800 files. Since there are files in there that seem to change daily, it slows down the daily backup. I am wondering if there is really anything in there that I need to back up. I've read that some older versions of Outlook and sometimes Windows Live Mail put data in there, but in the past I've restored computers and I've never copied anything from AppData. It does not seem to be the stored emails, perhaps it is confuguration data? So my question is, can I remove AppData from my backup job and what might I be losing?

View 3 Replies View RelatedWell I used clonezilla to backup my c drive before I moved from Win 7 rc 7100 x64 to Win 7 Rtm x64 7600. Back up worked fine.
When I went to restore the c drive it failed. After numerous tries at restoring my c drive and d drive where erased.
I only have a back up saved of my c drive and would like to restore it using anything but clonezilla. Something very user friendly if possible.
Any recommendations and or guides would be great. Free or paid software.
Doesn't matter.
I got a new SSD drive so in installed it into my computer and unplugged my other 2 internal drivers one with Windows and the other with Files on it, so i installed windows 8 fine so i shut down and disconnected the SSD just to be safe and unplugged my other two back in so i can copy all my data off my Win 7 to my Files drive. So i copied all my data (600gb) to my other internal drive into a folder called [backup] so when i was done i shut down and unplugged my Win 7 drive booted into my win 8 drive and was going to copy all my data back over but the folder [backup] isnt on my other drive! its gone, but it says the space is still used up on the drive it used to have 1.7ishTB free now its only showing 900ish GB free but i cannot see any of those files. Im freaking out because its everything i own and cannot loose these. How can i get access to my files? I tried searching on the drive for the files because i know some names but nothing came up, i even made it show hidden files and everything. I tried booting back to my win 7 drive to see if they show up there but they are still now showing up either. I know when i restarted it and booted it asked to do a check disk on all my drives but i skipped it to make sure it didnt mess anything up but i just retried it on that drive with my files and it started saying "deleting index xxxxxx.file" scrolling really fast so i restarted really quick.

View 8 Replies View Relatedthis has been occurring ever since my computer was diagnosed with a trojan. i removed it, and ever since then no .EXE files will open. I will click on any .EXE file, the revolving circle signifying loading will show for a second, and then it won't load at all - the program is not present in the task manager. the weird thing is, there is no difference in safe mode. no .EXE file will run in any variation of safe mode. this prevents me from running ANYTHING apart from the command prompt, viewing folders, and notepad. i cannot load the internet, a virus scanner, NOTHING. it is difficult to fix something when one is literally unable to access anything. i have attempted the 'repair my computer' option when i press f8, but it says it can't be repaired automatically. i downloaded a registry fix from a different computer, but it reads the message "Could not import exefix.reg: Not all data was successfully written to the registry. Some keys are open by the system or other processes". I cannot load a registry fix, virus scanner, or the internet. i STILL cannot open .EXE files in any variation of safe mode. i do not have the windows 7 disc so i cannot reformat. additionally, the trojan appears to have erased all my system restore points, so i cannot restore to any previous time.

I am working in Windows 7 XP Mode, trying to install and run a Microsoft utility called: WT1230: Batch File Converter for PowerPoint for Windows 95. (See WT1230: Batch File Converter for PowerPoint for Windows 95). Yes, the utility is intended for Win95, but I'd like to see if I can get it running in XP Mode. The utility installation instructions ask that I copy 2 files to the "Windows/system" folder. Of course, these instructions were written for Win95, not XP, let alone XP Mode. Still... if I copy the files, the core executable runs fine, but it can't find the 2 files that should be in "Windows/System". So, I gather XP Mode must have its own Windows/System folder.
