I Use Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit and I got a popup from windows saying it wanted to close program to free up Memory & I am using 8 gigs ram and I thought this was absurd so I opened Task manager and the program Explorer.EXE was using 6.36 Gigs of memory or the exact amount of ram is 6300480 K Kilobytes an insane amount of ram if anyone know what's causing this pleas help I tried to do a memory dump but it froze the computer.
On average the system with all open program usually levels of at around 25 to 35% ram usage never seen a problem like this.
Windows Explorer ( not internet Explorer) starts up when I turn on my computer ( without my request). This just started to occur yesterday. It must be in some startup menu . Where do I look for this to remove it ?
how to make W7 explorer display the file tree the same way that XP did? The W7 way is a total mishmash, IMHO. I can't understand the directory structure. The indentation on the display is very slight and hard to see so that it is very hard to tell where a subdirectory starts and ends. It takes a long time to fill in the file structure so that after several seconds, even minutes, the display is still jumping around. There are a lot of things that I like about W7 but this is NOT one of them. I use windows explorer a lot.
Where in the world is IE hiding? It doesn't show up under "Programs." When I search for it, up come sub-titles.I allowed Windows Updates to install IE 9 just a couple days ago. Is this the problem?
I purchased a Asus n53s laptop a couple of days ago and since today when i downloaded some stuff every time i open up my downloads folder or c drive in my computer the explorer.exe crashes and restarts. I cant get into these folders which is very frustrating and even more so that I've barely had the laptop 2 days and its already got problems! (Knew i should of gone with mac ). Ive tried right clicking on C drive and selecting properties to check the drive but the explorer.exe just restarts every time i do too. I running windows 7.
Anyways here is the event log and if anyone could help me it would be much appreciated, many thanks!
It is seen in Device Manager with no issues, it is seen in Disk Management and at one point, I was able to assign a letter to it under another profile, leading me to believe it might be a profile issue, but when I went to recreate the profile under the second one in which I was able to assign a letter to the DVD drive/CD drive, this no longer works. I can't tell you for sure when this started as I went to reinstall a program, after a crash yesterday and that is when I noted no CD in My Computer. IT is also seen in BIOS. Virus scan shows nothing and temp files have been cleaned. I can't find any information in the event log which has been of any use. I think I might try to recreate the profile as mine did seem rather big as I have only had the laptop for about a couple of months now. I hope some one has some additional ideas cuz I am about to restore the entire PC but sure would like to find out what caused this....Oh and I did try System Restore but I'm not sure how far to go back since I am not sure when this all started. Disk Management acts like it wants to let me assign a drive but it doesn't.
I run a comp with vista on but my wife as windows 7 she likes to do jigsaws to relax but when she goes to her favourit site only the adds come on the rest is blank. I logged on with vista it said do you want explorer to allow this site clicked yes everthing was ok but I could not get windows 7 to do the same how can I get her internet explorer to allow this site she as used it for years and had no problems but she was using vista then.
Yesterday I downgraded internet explorer 10. Now when I turned on my computer I get a message that says:Setting up personalized settings for:Web Platform Customizations And my explorer.exe won't load. It's just a blank screen and that message.Last time I had IE9, I tried to downgrade it to 8. It caused my IE to not work properly. The settings doesn't open, and it crashes when I type something in the address bar. I tried to reinstall IE9 but it says I still have the latest version. So what I did was install IE10 because I know it won't come up with the "you already have the latest version" error. And I succeeded installing IE10.And yesterday, I tried to downgrade IE10.And today, 2 things aren't working. My IE is not working properly again (same problem as before again). And my explorer.exe is not working too (coming up with that message above).Things I've Tried: End explorer.exe in processes and rerunning it. Restarted my computer.
A few months ago my Windows 7 installation seemed to hit a hiccup -- explorer.exe started hanging whenever I attempted to return to the desktop. That's the best way I can describe it. Explorer is just fine and happy if I stay within Windows, but if I either
a) Connect to the machine remotely via RDP (i.e, I am connecting to this machine from an outside computer), when I get to explorer.. b) Run any sort of full screen application, for this example let's say Valve's Half Life engine, although everything else does it too, and then Alt-Tab back to Explorer..
Then when I return to Explorer it is hanging -- the mouse shows the busy wheel on the task bar, and it never returns. I can click, I'll be told I can check for solutions and close the program, and voila -- explorer is killed and restarted, all is well.
I have: Replaced the display drivers, no effect Insured the installation is up to date, no effect Sweared at it, no effect Installed windbg, saved a dump file, realized I'm not a developer, cried into a pillow, no effect
I don't think this information has any use, at least, there's nothing on search engines, but here goes:
This was working just fine, I could see and access NAS via WE on all computers.Something changedNow............in WEon desktop - open NETWORK - can see laptop & desktop computers on network it also shows DT & NAS Media Devices BUT not NAS as computer (storage drive). I am unable to use Skyplayer because it claims that Silverlight 4 is not present. However it is and is showing in the programs list. I am using Internet Explorer 8 and when I Look at the list of Add-ons, Silverlight is not listed, so this is obviously the root of the problem. The question now is how do I get Silverlight included?
I was trying to find out the meaning of the messages that appear on the lower left of the Internet Explorer 8 windows (in the status bar). I was visiting a site (pcguide.com) and I got a weird icon in that spot. I am worried I might have picked up a nasty bug from that site, because I had a hard time closing it (windows kept popping up).
my windows oftenly crash everytime i refreshes the desktop for more than 3 times or open a larger memory folder.(eg. documents or the C:drive) this is the details of the crashes.
I am going to work through "Captain Jacks'" guide to explorer problems but just wonder if anyone can spot the cause of mine from the reports posted at the end
I have an annoying problem with Windows Explorer (not IE) which keeps crashing for no apparent reason. It usually restarts OK but is nonetheless very annying and when it happens it then seems more likely to re-occur more frequently in the same session. It happened on two previous installations but the first time I ended up with a Fresh windows install but it takes me days to get the computer back to my normal working arrangment. I have improved this by moving C: onto a 128GB SSD but unfortunately I lost the last back up that I had prior to the problem developing, so restoring from back up not likely to help as the fault will likely still be in the back up. The other previous time it happened was a couple of years ago and then I replaced two hard drives, SATA cables and the Motherboard (most people pointed to a fault with HD's or the SATA controller)
i just downloaded a windows 7 theme from deviantart, however the start menu doesn't chance and i asked the author of it and he tells me i need to chance the explorer.exe with the one that came with his theme.
But i can't replace it because windows 7 isn't allowing me to do it because of lack of rights. wich i should have since im the only user on my computer and with fully administrative rights.
I also have taken ownership of the file, but i still cannot replace the original explorer.exe file
here is a link to the theme how it should look like: Link to the theme: Clearscreen Sharp for Windows7 by *K-Johnson on deviantART
no doubt someone will say 'here it is stupid' and I'll learn to search properly...but anyway. does any know how to run a 32 bit explorer.exe (e.g. syswow64explorer.exe) on 64 bit Windows 7? Do you really know that whatever solution you post works? do you have "explorer.exe *32" in your task manager?
sometimes (still, quite often actually) windows explorer freezes and cannot display information such as drives and partitions; have to stop windows explorer and restart it and then it works. Cannot see any pattern for this to happen.
I have been using windows 7 ultimate 32 bit edition every time i check my windows task manager i see more than 1 explorer.exe is open and when i kill it with task manager i get no crash does anyone know why my pc it keeps opening explorer.exe its taking ram i have a 4g of ram and here is a screen shot of it
I recently reinstalled Windows, and my mum was using my computer to open a PDF file, but since I hadn't installed Adobe Reader yet, the file couldn't open, so she attempted to open it in Internet Explorer... So anyway, I installed Adobe Reader X, but the default program to open PDFs was still set as Internet Explorer, so I had to change it to open with Adobe Reader. It opens properly now, but there's one problem, there are no PDF file previews in Explorer; if I make the icons bigger it just shows a big Adobe icon. I tried the fix here: Fixes for 64-bit Adobe Reader preview handler and thumbnails but it doesn't work. I also tried using an alternative PDF reader (Sumatra) but I still get no previews.
Even when I have all of the programs closed, the process "Explorer.exe" is running at 80% - 95% all of the time. This is causing serious system slowdown.
started noticing how explorer.exe keeps using loads of my CPU power, earlier both processes were using 40-50% of my CPU causing everything to work extremely slow/stop working, now one of them seems to have cooled down and it's the other one running at 48-52% the entire time. Has anyone got any idea why this is happening?
The Process Explorer display consists of two sub-windows. The top window always shows a list of the currently active processes, including the names of their owning accounts, whereas the information displayed in the bottom window depends on the mode that Process Explorer is in: if it is in handle mode you'll see the handles that the process selected in the top window has opened; if Process Explorer is in DLL mode you'll see the DLLs and memory-mapped files that the process has loaded. Process Explorer also has a powerful search capability that will quickly show you which processes have particular handles opened or DLLs loaded.
I get this message when windows boots. Cannot do anything:The program or feature "??C:WindowsExplorer.EXE" cannot start or run due to incompatibilty with 64-bit versions of Windows. Not sure why all a sudden it is telling me this
