sometimes (still, quite often actually) windows explorer freezes and cannot display information such as drives and partitions; have to stop windows explorer and restart it and then it works. Cannot see any pattern for this to happen.
Has this happened to someone else ?
Installed Win 7 on May 5. Seemed to work well. Started having problems with IE8 freezing when it opens. Sometimes I can ctl, alt, del and close it out, but more often I have to reboot. I also have firefox and it seems to work fine.
Has anyone else seen this problem?
Any ideas on how to troubleshoot?
I've been using 7137 for a long time, and I haven't had any problems with it until yesterday. I'll be doing normal stuff, like using Chrome, etc. When I try and click an icon on my taskbar, nothing happens. I get the blue spinning wheel.
To add, I can't even use keyboard shortcuts to open up Run, Task Manager, and more.
Computer Info: Alienware 14x, win7 premium home 64bit, Intel i7-2720, intel hd3000/ nvidia 555m, 6gigs of ram. Problem: as noted in title my os seems to freeze perhaps it is the windows explorer that is freezing not 100% sure what is actually freezing but the latter of these two choice seem more likely to me based on the freeze seems to happen after I try to open the start menu (sorry for the run on). I have tried a clean bootup with msconfig however the os froze after I loaded a single program or at least nothing loaded after 15min of waiting aside the circle telling me something is 'loading'. In hindsight maybe I should have been more patient, I dunno. Also, during these freezes I have notice keyboard becomes unresponsive Ie ctrl+alt+delete won't work. I have tried using a system restore point but this also did not worked. I have also tired a check disc and that also yielded no results. Also, I have disabled the windows search function if that is relevant.

Sometimes when I'm on sevenforums and have multiple tabs open I'm going to another website using: addressbar, homepage butten, favorites. None of them work (sometimes) . Only that tab keeps loading and I have to click on X on tab (it says still busy).It happens about every 2 hours and then all sevenforum tabs are freezing.Click on a link insite sevenforums works however (if it is not already freezing).Did try to disable add-ons. Even started internet explorer without add-ons. Problem is still there.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have started using the RC after having used the offiial beta for only a week (it kept giving me BSODs and I was too lazy to figure out why).
With this build I have noticed one thing, and as I have looked through this forum for a while to see if anyone else had it, and didn't find anything, I will assume it is not a 'feature'. While playing xvid media (television shows from the US) with windows media player, I notice at random times that the image freezes (the sound continues). After a while (between 10 to 30 seconds) the image unfreezes and starts playing catchup. This can happen while I'm doing something else, but also when I'm not doing a thing, and only WMP is opened. I first thought it might be codec issue, so I installed a Windows 7 codec pack (though I usually hate these things). Unfortunately it hasn't solved my problem.
I've also noticed that it takes explorer about 20 to 50 seconds to start up. I don't know if that's strange, but it seems like a long time to me. Even if it's already open on a different folder, and I open another instance, it takes this long. Only if I browse within the already opened window does it not seem to lag.
The only thing I can think of is that it might have something to do with my virus scanner? I have ACG installed. I also have daemon tools running, even though it says that there might be compatibility issues.
Since today, I've been having random freezes in Windows 7. When it freezes, all I can do is move the mouse cursor, windows explorer happens to be crashing at that point & there is no way for me to ctrl-alt-delete or ctrl-shift-escape myself out of the situation. I have to restart the PC only to be confronted with the problem again shortly after. These freezes happen at very random times. For example when I opened up the start menu and typed "cmd" and pressed enter, it froze.
Or just when I simply started up my PC and when my first action was pressing "Cancel" in an application window, it froze as well. It also froze just opening the start menu & froze opening my User (Tom) folder. I decided that it might be because of some update or one of the applications I've installed since today, so I decided to do a system restore to yesterday, which removed those applications. This however, did not fix the random freezes. I also checked my PC component temperatures in the ASUS BIOS, they happen to be fine. I'm on the PC right now, it runs fine in safe-mode.

For the past 2 days, whenever I have used Mozilla firefox 12.0, after sometime, the browser hangs up and it tells that the browser has stopped responding. The same time, windows explorer also hangs and freezes soon. I will have to restart and then same thing happens again. I tried Chrome also, but the result was same. the browser freezes, and soon after explorer also freezes. I have also noticed that the disk space in the C drive is also getting reduced. In one day 5gb of space has been added up. I have installed and tested with windirstat. Now even the yahoo messenger freezes (not responding) every time and other applications too. I have scanned with MAlwarebytes and Security essential and could not find any infection. For the past 3 days, I can't watch flash videos in Mozilla. Today, several time the same thing happened to chrome also and it says the player crashed.

also i remember the week before those crashes that twice the screen driver crashed for a second or 2 and then a message popped up about how a monitor driver crash was adjusted, always when i played a certain game that is still in beta so i taught it was the game.

how to make W7 explorer display the file tree the same way that XP did? The W7 way is a total mishmash, IMHO. I can't understand the directory structure. The indentation on the display is very slight and hard to see so that it is very hard to tell where a subdirectory starts and ends. It takes a long time to fill in the file structure so that after several seconds, even minutes, the display is still jumping around. There are a lot of things that I like about W7 but this is NOT one of them. I use windows explorer a lot.

Unlike other threads I've read, I'm not seeing any BSOD and its not crackling. My operating system will just stop functioning, or freeze for a half a second at a time. This can become frequent at about 10 times in a thirty second period requiring a restart. I had installed the latest x64 driver for my W7 x64 system from M-audio's website.
I uninstalled the driver and restarted, the issue persisted. I then installed the on-board audio driver and restarted, no system lag is present. The audio device-driver is acting up and I'm not sure why. Because i bought it used M-audio's support is a no-go. Are there any additional steps I can take which may troubleshoot this issue?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI am experiencing freezes constantly in Win 7 64bit. I eliminated some install freezes by not using my wireless mouse and keyboard on install and installing later. The install still freezes when it tries to update the ATI driver. I also have problems with freezes with
X-fi (probably drivers), ASUS mobo drivers and apps, and installation of many other common apps. The system invariably freezes on the first boot, but may work for a while after resetting. I will experiment by installing XP Pro 32bit to determine the hardware stability and will post my results on this thread later.
Intermittent issue. Brand new Dell Laptop with preinstalled W7 x64. Initially having issues with video playback not working, freezing IE. A system restore seems to have resolved that, but am still having issues where randomly visiting a basic webpage, IE freezes.
Really annoying when it happens, but it is intermittent. Once a weekish, a reboot seems to resolve it. Thought it was an issue coming back from Sleep mode but it happened today on a fresh startup. Here is the error message in the event viewer which has it listed as an Application Hangup:

Since I'd rather talk with my 4 month old son than Dell tech support from my initial contact with their web support, I was hoping someone here might know of this issue or have any ideas.
This is what they came up with after so many years? this is what Microsoft came up with and claimed it is been tested even with Steve ballmer's son? This is the best they can do? I have been on my laptop for 2 hours and had to reset 6 times.
And it seems to get worse day after day. the second day i installed it it only froze 1 time for being on it for over 6 hours. Microsoft may as well give up software staffs and may be focusing on making mouse pad and keyboard before the name "Microsoft" gets tarnished forever.

Running many safe modes
Repair of win 7
Check and repair all Hard disks also blank records
Did check device manager but no comments over there
Did a scan with Malwarebytes and even bought it because of real time security
Did replace Explorer.exe for disk maintenance by FreeCommander
Trying to stop some tasks in Source Controle
But still getting Freezes. Ive noticed a while ago that when freezing, the hard disks are running 100% (lights of harddisks burning constantly and hearing diskdrives running) but the processor is running for 1% or 2%. There must be a process responsible for it but I cant get a finger behind it which one.
Im getting nowhere and need this system every day. So if you could come up with a solution it would be very welcome.
It seems to work great on safe mode.. but when I boot it up normally, it works great for the first 4 minutes and then after that it just completely freezes, no mouse movement or anything. It all started yesterday, while I was browsing the net my computer suddenly froze and got a bluescreen. When it rebooted everything looked fine during startup except that it froze after a few minutes again. During the freeze I can move the mouse, but I can't open any programs, and any programs that already are open stop working. Can't ctrl+alt+delete or do anything else than reboot the computer by pressing the start-button.
I didn't visit any websites that I haven't visited frequently these past weeks so I don't think I've gotten anything from them. When I start in safe-mode the same thing happens after a few minutes, cant start any new programs, and any programs that already are active stop working.

I installed windows 7 on a brand new HDD,i updated all the drivers of chipset etc,the computer runs fine,but the only problem is that when i try to make it restart the screen goes black, the keyboard and mouse also,but the fan and the pc keeps running, i tried to set the bios to default but nothing,so i tried to restart it from the safe mode,from the same mode it loggs off ok but when the shutting down screen comes it freezes there,so i am guessing its the same thing happening to the normal restart. View 5 Replies View Relatedim having some problems installing windows 7. i had vista home premium but it started going very slow so i decided to install win 7 ultimate as i use it at work and its alot nicer tbh. I reformatted my partition and started the install tis gets to 10% usally can get up to 16% and then it gives an error file missing or currupt, when i restart the computer i get the "BOOT MNGR" is missing error i thought maybe a hardware issue as it was under warranty Toshiba had a look hardware is 100% fine no errors found. so now im stuck with this error and no way round it. i have read lots of similar problems but none come up with any decent ways to fix it, most have managed to install it and then get the boot error but mine has not even installed so i cant repair the OS ect.
I have also tried putting Vista back on but it just doesnt load up just a black screen, i tried XP but i think the laptop is to powerfull as it just bluescreens everytime i even tried removing some ram as xp only run upto so much but to no avail. atm im trying with a new partition + the 100mb system one but has frozen

After this happens I find an event with the Event ID 9 in the Event Viewer(The device, DeviceIdeiaStor0, did not respond within the timeout period.). So far this mostly happened when I'm watching a movie(online as well as offline) or playing a game and then mostly in the beginning 1-3 times and after this it was fine for the rest. SO, now I installed Firefox 4 and if I'm running it, I get 10 of these freezes in 30 minutes. Anyway, I downgraded to Firefox 3.6, I found some information about this on some other pages already(The device, DeviceIdeiaStor0, did not respond within the timeout period Solutions Log , Derek Seaman's Blog: Windows 7 Intel SATA/AHCI Lockups and Intel SATA Event ID 9), but nothing helped. By the way, I'm using Windows 7 64 bit Home Premium, the version that was installed on the computer.
