Open Excel File Directly From IE9

Oct 30, 2012

I wanted to open an excel file directly from IE9, but when I double click the excel file in the browser, it opens right in IE instead of Excel program. How do I make the file use Excel program to open rather than open in IE itself? I am using Windows 7 and Office 2010. I tried the Microsoft registry fix but still it doesn't work. And the folder options in Windows 7 doesn't have the "Advanced" option.

[CRASH] Excel 2010 64 Bit File Will Not Open

Mar 27, 2012

The last system change I made to Excel was to be able to open files as an Administrator. I managed to do that but I don't know how to reverse this. So why am I concerned? Ever since I did this I have not been able to open the specific file involved with the open-as-admin. After several attempts, I did get an error indicating that the file caused serious errors the last time is was opened.

Set A Certain File Type To Open With Certain Program

Mar 6, 2012

I used to be able to open replays of a certain game (Warcraft 3) just by simply double clicking on them. I reinstalled Windows 7 2weeks ago, along with the game. Now when I double click them, it doesnt know what program to use --> I go through the standard "open with" and find my war3.exe. Now when I go to double click the replay file, it openes warcraft3 not the replay itself (like it used to, and like how I want it).

Ive done alot of digging around and trying to find how to fix it, but Im still unable to fix this. What I've found out that I basically need the replay files (.w3g) to open in E:Program filesWarcraft IIIwar3.exe -loadfile "%1"
The problem is, that with windows7 I am unable to find the place where I can insert this, all I was able to find was ways for XP/Vista but they are different from Windows 7.

Shortcuts Refuse To Open Can't Type

Dec 31, 2010

I have windows 7. I'm getting odd behaviour from my machine. I can only type in search boxes intermittently, other times when I press a letter the shortcut droplist comes on---"F" is find and so on. Only light on my keyboard is Num Lock, so I don't think it's a keyboard issue. When I left click shortcut to open IE(or any program), I get the, "do you want this program to make changes..." message, or I get the shortcut properties box, and if I move a shortcut, it makes a copy---"Computer 2."

Open-type Fonts Not Displaying?

Jan 21, 2011

I have had this dell pc for a year. I had a ton of opentype fonts installed on here as I am a graphic designer. All of a sudden I notice none of my OTF files are in my photoshop list..I checked the windows/fonts folder and not there either. I try installing new OTF files and it says "not a valid font file" Here is the kicker..I converted my OTF files to Truetype and when I install them windows says its already installed, but you look at the list and nothing there. I have tried everything, read all the forums..here is what I have done I am logged on as admin. I removed my kids account so there is only one account (admin account)I updated my graphics card (read that can be an issue)I have changed the UAC to never notify When I click on the font properties there is NO box that says unblock (read that on this site)I sent the file to a friend, they installed fine, so its not a corrupt file.

Can't Open Any Type Of Cd In Windows 7. 3 Different Dvdrw's Connected

Apr 24, 2011

I am trying to load battlefield bad company 2, sims, dvd's, and cd's on my computer, but when I go to My Computer and double click the dvdrw's, windows says it needs to format the disk.

if I press format, it has an error, if I dont, it also has an error.

I have installed 3 dvdrws that I have tested and had working in another computer, and the same goes for each one.

When I insert a disk, the mouse cursor shows the little CD right by it, but nothing happens after it blinks a few times.

Bios recognizes each dvdrw drive, they will boot windows 7 disk before loading windows even, disk management shows each one is working good.

I got one dvd to read through a third party program called dvd decrypter. I didn't go as far as to see if it would copy to the hdd, but it showed all the files.

I used another third party software to analyze the sims2 disk to see if it could copy (i didnt have the full version so I couldnt copy it onto the hdd) but it did show the files as well.

I cannot see any music disks, cdrws disks, dvd's, etc in itunes or windows media player.

Excel 2003 File Disappears In Windows 7?

Nov 7, 2011

There is only one of my Excel 2003 files that almost disappears when I copy it over into my Windows 7 laptop and try to read it with either explorer or search for it, although it asks me to replace it everytime. It appears as if it doesn't exist. However when I open Excel 2010 and list only the .xls files, it finds it and I can read it. I have several other Excel 2003 files that are fine and since I usually open files by clicking on them in explorer, this one is particularly annoying, since I can't find it to click on it to open it. When I do open it in Excel 2010 it works normally and fine.

why only this file disappears from explorer and the search function only?

Duplicating Already Formatted Excel 2003 File?

Feb 13, 2012

I have an EXCEL 2003 s/s setup in WIN 7. This contains data in 4/5 columns consisting of details of expenses incurred by two people who jointly own a boat and wish to share the costs equally. I have achieved this for the year 2011 and would like to create an identical s/s for 2012. Due to the fact that I am not familiar with EXCEL , I would like to start the new s/s with the same column setup , totals formulae and the header setup as I have already obtained for the year just ended without the hassle of setting up the same settings again. Would it be possible to just copy the 2011 s/s to the Clipboard and then paste it into my Excel App thus duplicating everything which I could then amend by deleting the old data before filling in the 2012 data? Will this work ?

User Being Prompted For Credential When Download An Excel File

Feb 20, 2012

I have a user who goes to a public HTTPS site to download an excel file and she is being prompted for Windows Security credential. She types in her username and password and hits okay, but it prompts for it again and does it for total of three times before letting her open the file.

1. I entered her username and password in Windows credential manager and it is autofilled when it prompts so she has to just click okay three times before she is able to access the file.

2. All she has to do is hit "Cancel" once and it will still give her the option to Save or Open the file.why it is prompting her for credential and I had her use another box which worked correctly without any credential prompts. This is not a Sharepoint site. It doesn't seem to prompt for login if its none office files.

Pps File Type Not Listed

Jul 24, 2012

My problems continue with Win 7's faulty 'file associations' subroutine. Have a friend with a new Toshiba Core i5 on which he has MS Office 2003 Professional fully installed, including PowerPoint. Three weeks ago, he complained that he could not open .pps files attached to e-mails, so he brought the computer to me. I opened the file associations subroutine, found .pps in the list of extensions, and ultimately (tha'ts another whole story) got MS PowerPoint registered as the default program to open such files.Today he claimed he got another e-mail with a .pps attachment, and could not open it, so brought the computer to me again. I don't know why he wasn't able to open it, because I called up the e-mail, clicked the .pps attachment and it opened perfectly. However, I opened the /Default Programs/Set Associations list and scrolled down to see what the .pps entry said was the current default.
