Error Is Keeping Me From Applying Properties To Files
Jun 13, 2009
I was trying to write properties to some music files. I have done it before to the same file on vista, but forgot to save so im redoing it. When I attempt to save what I have just entered I get this:
"An unexpected error is keeping you from applying properties to the file. if you continue to receive this error, you can use the error code to search for help with this problem.
Error 0x8007000D: the data is invalid.
I have all updates, and the files are good.
Any help would be great.
BTW I can write info to most file but some give me this error. They were all off the same backup hard drive, transfered at the same time and I have writen properties to these files before.

I have another user setup with standard settings and want to set them up to be able to play Civ IV without me the admin having to enter the password everytime they want to play it.
It's in C:GamesCiv IV, so I've tried changing the permissions of users to modify and write enabled. However I get the 'error applying security' message with no prompts as to how to solve the probem!
The interesting thing is it applies the changes anyway, even though it tells me I'm not allowed - security flaw!

I installed Service Pack 1 for Windows 7. After it rebooted, on the Windows 7 loading screen it shows "Applying update operation XXXX of XXXX". After a certain number it says "Error applying operation XXXX of XXXX", and then the system proceeds to hang on that screen, meaning that I am unable to access Windows. I try mashing F8 for my life when resetting the computer, but I never get a list of boot options, so I cannot get into Safe Mode or even try the computer's Last Known Good Configuration. The edition of this version of Windows 7 is 64 bit Ultimate. The laptop I am using is also 64 bit Ultimate.
Another thing I want to point out is that both of these computers have been taking an incredibly long time (near 12 hours at this point) trying to download and install Service Pack 1. There is no spyware or anything running in the background. I am fearing that I might get the same error on this machine but I have taken the liberty of creating a System Restore point in the event it happens. I have two other Windows 7 machines in the house (32 bit Professional and 64 bit Home Premium), and both of them installed Service Pack 1 without any kind of problem, and both of those computers installed them rather quickly.

I was doing some Windows Updates and then my computer froze. So I was forced to hold the power button, when I tried turning it back on and windows won't load. I get the error: "Fatal error c0190003 applying update operation 2806 of 118356 (recover...)". I can't do a system restore. It doesn't do anything, I have to do 'Start Windows Normally'.. and Windows just won't load in my laptop. It is a Dell Inspiron with windows Windows 7.

3.Connected HDD to the laptop via a USB kit i bought

5.Attempt to move files -Access Denied-
Heres my problem everytime i try to move anything it says its denied i give it admin but it doesnt copy it anyway. I go to folder properties and set the security to allow "Everyone" Full control but it still wont work it says access is denied and i cant apply it. I can go into an individual file and set security settings there and be able to retrieve it however it is inefficient to try to do this to the next 3000 or so photos/files. Can anyone reccomend me what i should do? or perhaps theres a program that

I have been unable to share files. Not only between two computers both running Windows 7, which I'm trying to sync some files in (OneNote), but I can't even change the properties.
I've tried everything, from going into advances sharing settings in the drive and giving full permission, to just the basic right clicking on the file, clicking Share With, and trying to click Homegroup, or going into specific people, and no matter what, it just keeps saying Nobody, with the lock icon next to it.I have gone into the firewall and made sure that's not an issue...it just seems that no matter what, Windows just will not allow me to share ANY files in my documents folders.

I'm trying to back up my "data" drive to an external hard drive. The properties on the disk show that there is 910 GB of data on the disk. But, when I select all files on the drive (hidden files/folders shown), it only adds up to 899 GB. Even worse, when I begin copying files, only 835 GB is found and begins to copy. What could be causing this/how can I copy ALL my data? Running Windows 7 Professional x64 Drive contains media files (lots of media files), software installers, .iso files, backups, and system images. Plus a lot of other stuff. Image of drive + file information: [URL] Edit: Tried taking ownership of all files and directories, and allowing my user full control.

I was trying to change a mp3 file properties > details, but it won't let me. There is nothing listed. When looking in explorer, it shows no album information or title. It does it with video files as well, so I am assuming all properties.
When I do change something from the bottom, it gives me error 0x80004005: Unspecified error. 'An unexpected error is keeping you from applying properties to the file' I used to be able to, so not sure what happened!
MediaMonkey can see the details, but every file on the computer, I can't see the details in explorer? Do I have to register some .dll? Regserv32 of some sort?

I just got a system running Win7 Ultimate and I hooked up my brother MFC 9700 multifunction printer; it does basic printing, but the front panel buttons to trigger a scan don't work. I tried installing the virtual machine, running the install disk from within XP, no luck. I shut down the virtual machine, then tried running "Windows fax and scan", it sees the device, opens up the "new scan" window - then gives me the error message "An error occurred while setting scanner properties. If another program is scanning, please wait for it to complete and try again." (I had reloaded MODI and MS Photo Editor earlier, could that be creating a problem?)

Now, when I go through the Control Panel -> Back Up Your Computer -> Recover system settings, and attempt to apply the back up, it prompts me for the System Repair Disc. I've attempted to put in discs 1 - 4 with no luck. I restored from the disc image, but it didn't give me the actual programs and applications, just short cuts.

I have created a test domain with one server (windows server 2008r2) running active directory and dns, and one client that is in the domain(windows 7 enterprise) I have created a new user, John Andrews, and added him to the Domain Admin [Global Group] and then Domain Admin's is a member of Administrators [Domain Local Group]. url...Now my understanding was that you in theory use the Global Groups for users, and the Domain Local groups for resources. So for example if your usinging the built in groups, you would assign your Admin users to the Domain Admins global group, and then any folder or object that had the Administrators domain local group in it's permissions, would be accessable to your Admins users, because Domain Admins is a member of the domain local group Administrators. On the server, while logged in as John Andrews I then created a new 10GB partition, H:, to make as a file share. The permissions of this partition have the Administrators domain local group as a member with Full Control. url...I then created a new folder in this partition called LanAdmin. The folder creates fine, but then when I try to open it, I get a dialog that I do not have permission. When I check the Security permissions, it again says that I do not have the administrative permission, however I can still hit continue to view the permissions. And in the security list is the Administrators domain local group with Full control selected. url...I do not understand why I do not have permissions to this folder, even as I just created it. Am I not correct about how a user in the global group has access to resources of a domain local group that the users global group is a member of?

For the last couple of nights, there has been an update to apply when I log off. In both cases, the update seemed to hang and I left the computer switched on overnight with the monitor switched off.On the first occasion it was still hung in the morning so I reset the computer. All seemed to be OK during the day but when I came to close down there was an update to apply. I guess it was the same one. It hung again and I left the computer overnight again. This time it had switched off but when I switched it on again it came up with a temporary profile.A message appeared telling me to look in the event viewer but that is a waste of time as there are several hundred million entries which don't mean anything to me.Where do I go from here? I guess I can do a system restore but that is likely to lead me back here after a day or two as the system tries to keep itself up to date.

I have adjusted the Advanced Appearance Settings in Control Panel to make my window headings a little larger and bolder. The changes have worked well in all my programs except Office 2010 programs! These programs continue to show the original small, unbolded heading fonts. I have been told on another Windows 7 Forum that Control Panel changes will not work on Office programs, so is there another way to change the Title Bar headings in Office 2010 so that they are a little larger and bolder?

I recently updated my Windows 7 Ultimate with Service Pack 1 through Windows Update and after the reboot my Bluetooth devices dont work. I have two Dell mice and a Dell keyboard and they no longer function.I deleted the devices and added them back and while they were discovered and did attach they dont function. Additionally, detailed information on the devices is no longer present. One of my mice was a Dell Travel Mouse and before it showed up as an icon that looked just like my mouse not it shows up as a generic mouse.
In trying to troubleshoot this i disabled the internal Bluetooth and plugged in a Belkin Bluetooth Dongle and it behaves the same way. However as this was an external device it has a flashing light showing when it is receiving a transmission and when I moved the mouse the light would flash so the signal is getting to the computer however nothing is happening on screen. This dongle works perfect on my other Dell D620 Laptop with Windows 7 and no service pack.

My friend bought a laptop with a dead hard drive, so she went on craigslist and bought a 250GB HD with windows 7 on it. The problem is the new HD was from a dell computer and her laptop is a Compaq. I know about the MB bios not being compatible and thats why the HD wont boot to windows(I'm NOT Computer Illiterate) I just need help with options. I want to know how to reformat the HD and keep windows 7 that is on it.One of the solutions I found was to download the windows 7 ISO and burn it to a DVD or a 4GB flash drive and install it that way... neither I nor my friend has a job so buying a legitimate windows 7 disk is a no go(*sigh*) and we don't have a DVD burner, so that option is a no go.

I'm trying to find out if there is a way we can prevent users from creating/storing/copying/pasting files onto the root directory. This is because i want to prevent anything from writing itself there other than the system itself. Because most of the autorun viruses etc copies itself there. There are numerous viruses out there which does this. And at this present time, although majority of the anti-viruses can track them, we might never know if another way to circumvent anti-viruses watch and defenses can be formulated. This is the basis i'm looking for this specific way to block users from storing files on root drives. And yes i am aware that natively UAC does watch over these places which means without elevated privs, nothing can be stored there. But what good is security if the home owners welcome thieves in disguises?

I bought a new laptop 2 months ago (Tecra R840-16J)! I made a list with the specs I wanted for my new laptop (I have Toshiba laptops from 1997...still working)! The R840-16J had everything except an SSD!!! (and I could not custom make it here in portugal!).The Seagate Momentus 500 GB 7200 rpm installed (I just posted my performance results in the thread about HDD performance) have not that good performance and have a tremendous vibration (I can feel it all over the laptop).I'm thinking in a Samsung 830 512 GB SSD
1- would the performance increase?
2- I never had a fail with my HDDs (I have one 7 yr laptop that I use to my astrophotography capture sessions that run dozen of times in a very harsh environment and it is still fine!).What about the 830 ssd?
3- About energy: I allways hibernate my laptops! What the drain in energy in a laptop with a ssd when hibernated?
4- I have lots of sw installed (very specific for astronomy). I have Adobe Master Collection for example which is huge! Is it possible to install the new ssd and keeping all the stuff as it is now? I mean...maybe I clone all my HDD content with Ghost (that I bought but I think it will come with the 830..grhhhhh) and then transfer that for the new SSD, install ssd and all will work???? (or there is much more work to do and complications to do?)

If my Win 7 machine goes to sleep and I try to wake it, it has forgotten how to find anything on the Internet until I do a restart, then all is well until sleepy time again.
Performance Information and Tools tells me that three nearly identical drivers are causing Windows to resume slowly. Don't know if that has any connection to the lost ability to connect.
These drivers are all named: Windows Driver Foundation-User-mode Driver/Framework Reflector and the only difference between the three is that one is a USB CF Reader, another a USB MS Reader, and the third is a USB SD Reader.
I have updates set to automatic and to include drivers. These drivers are all published by Microsoft, so I don't know why they aren't being updated.
I really don't care about the slightly slow part, I just don't like having to restart in order to log on the Web.
If anyone thinks these drivers might fix the lost Internet connection, please tell me how to update them.
By the way, I am connecting through a Linksys router. When I had Vista on this machine I had no such problems so I think something about Win 7 is not compatible with something in my 'puter. I tried to do a firmware update on the Linksys router, but never could get it done.
