View 2 Replies View RelatedI am working with my Systems Administrator at my workplace to troubleshoot an issue we are having with new computers. Computers will connect to the internet through a browser, but clients that need access to a remote server (program updaters, installers, clients that require server access such as online games or itunes) cannot connect.Details: Until recently my company has only used workstations with XP-SP3 operating systems. We connect to the internet through a proxy server. Recently, we began upgrading our systems with Windows 7 Professional machines. At this time we have two. Email, web browsing and file downloads work without a problem. However, whenever a program tries to access an outside server it fails to connect. We don't believe the problem is related to any specific program but to the computer as a whole since the issue is consistent with several programs that need to access servers. One example is the malware program we use. It returns a connection error whenever it tries to update its definitions. Another example is online games (permitted at my company during off-hours). One, in particular, uses a seperate installer to download the game client. The installer cannot connect to the server and pops up a "no internet connection found" message. I have several other examples, each with a unique error message, but the basic issues seems to be the same. They cannot connect to their servers.
We believe this may be a proxy issue. One indication of this is when we tried to access iTunes. When iTunes tried to connect it popped of a proxy authentication box. We filled in the required information and gained access. However, whenever we tried to send any info to iTunes (such as signing in to the store) the authentication box popped up again and we had to re-enter our info.We have tried a multitude of solutions involving settings, firewall, anti-virus, etc. and so far have had no positive results. Also, this appears to be an issue with the individual machines and not the companies proxy settings in genera,l as the XP machines have no problems connecting to these servers using the same programs and they are on the same proxy.
I've been trying to logon to a Windows 7 admin account, which isn't logged in (I have another account that we usually use instead) When we tried to logon, a message saying "there are currently no logon servers available to process your logon request"
View 1 Replies View RelatedUser is unable to login to the system which is a domain computer. Error message " Currently there are no logon servers available". this message occurs when not connected to the network. As per my understanding the password is cached, but doesn't take effect in this scenario.

View 8 Replies View RelatedI can do it with a dual boot of two different XP installs, but Windows 7 and XP is eluding me.
It's easier if I just tell you the end result of what I want things to look like; then maybe someone will know how to accomplish it. I have a laptop that currently has Windows XP (installed first) and Windows 7 (installed second) as a dual boot configuration.
What I want is to completely (temporarily) eliminate the boot menu. I don't want to just "limit it to 0 seconds" or anything like that -- I literally want to eliminate the boot menu. I want it so that when you boot the laptop, it boots Windows XP every time.
However, there should be "some method" to restore the boot menu - preferably by running a batch file in Windows XP. After you boot to XP, you can run this batch file, then reboot the computer, you'd get the boot menu and have the option of choosing Windows 7.
Once in Windows 7, you should be able to run a similar batch file to remove the boot menu again - so that when you restart the computer, it once again reverts to just booting to XP and doesn't display any menu, until you run the XP batch file again.
In XP I would have been able to do this with a batch file that rewrites boot.ini but since Windows 7 doesn't use boot.ini I don't know how to accomplish this from the Windows 7 side.
Also, let me clarify that I don't much care if the OS's can "see" each other -- I don't need to hide the drives -- I just don't want the boot menu to appear, basically making it "appear" that the system only has a single OS unless you are "in the know."
I am using an object dock in Windows 7 home basic and I want to hide/remove the icons of mycomputer and recycle bin on my desktop because it is already in the dock..Unfortunately I don't know how to hide those icons.
View 2 Replies View RelatedStop Windows 7 assigning my folders to its own special ones
This is a year-old Windows 7 Pro PC that gets very heavy home office use. Just yesterday I noticed that 2 top-level folders I created long ago no longer appear in the Explorer view of folders under C:.
In each case, if I explicitly enter the folder's path in the address bar (or the Run dialog), the folder content displays, but the address bar reads, for example, Computer - OS (C) - My Pictures. (The title bar shows the path, but the address bar is beating its own drum.) Another folder has now suddenly been declared My Music. And while these folders do contain lots of pictures and music, respectively, they have other stuff in them too, and I don't want Windows to apply its heavy-handed classifications. Strangest thing is, I'm certain the My Pictures and My Music folders were located elsewhere until yesterday.
If I go up one level from either folder (to C), the folder's name & icon are not shown in the list of other top-level folders. That is, I can't cursor down to it and hit Enter to open, as I can with dozens of others.
I've never used, nor liked being cajoled into using, Microsoft's array of "My XXXX" folders, nor am I partial to the recently birthed "libraries" concept. I have my own carefully designed folder hierarchy, and must work in it at great speed, so short paths and quick keyboard access are critical. I deliberately name certain folders toward the top of the alphabet, so scrolling down to the 'My's -- even if I were to accept these involuntary relocations
This only just started, and I can't figure out what provoked it. Is there a setting that governs this that can be disabled? If it's a new "feature" added in an update, I see it as inexcusably intrusive.
I have Windows 7 installed on a VM. After I start the VM and try to log on as Administrator, it displays "There are currently no logon servers available to service the logon request."Are there extra steps to configure logon capabilities? This VM in Hyper-V is running on a 64-bit Windows 2008 Server R2 machine.
View 4 Replies View RelatedQuote: There is a reason Mozilla announces the release of a product days after uploading it to their servers. And that reason is that testing is still performed and that finding a serious issue would force the company from shipping the product to end-users (these can be viewed as release candidates).
And this is exactly what happened in the case of Firefox 8.0.1. The build was available for download from Mozillas FTP up until today, when it was deleted because of RoboForm-related issues.
One of the problems the development team was working in order to ready a Firefox 8.1.0 update was gathering information for blocklisting RoboForm DLL. It looks like trouble ran much deeper than that and a second build is now required.
You can still download the initial Firefox 8.0.1 release and it should not cause any trouble as long as you dont mix RoboForm in.

I have a weird problem nowadays. I cant login (not accessing) certain websites without using proxy servers with any browser. Some of sites say somethings about SSL, some of them take me to home page, and u know twitter, it says "somethings gone technically wrong" or sth like that. Even now, I connectted to proxy server to login here. So far now what i have done:
- The date & time are correct
- I cleaned cookies
- I resetted IE settings
- I rebooted my router
- I restarted my computer
Btw, I also have Ubuntu 12.04 and at there, everything works fine. So I think my problem is related with Windows 7.
Warning: the following descriptions involve time travel - you may or may not go cross-eyed. This gets complicated, so follow closely.Windows (7, 64bit, build 7600) Explorer is showing a -6 hour difference in time from my actual file date. This is NOT simply the time difference between my computer (in Central time zone) and the server (on Eastern time). Explorer is ignoring the server's time stamp and subtracting exactly 6 hours from the time of the what the server should say. I know this because I'm also looking at the exact same folder and files using XP and the time stamps are exactly as they should be. I modified a file locally (on Windows 7) and copied it up to the server. The time stamp local is 9:36a. The time stamp on the server should be 10:36a, but instead it says 4:36a. So, I copied a file from the server back to here and it reports locally 6 hours later (10:38a) than what is on the server (4:38a). Looking at the exact same files through explorer on XP shows that the time should have been 10:38a.
If it wasn't for time showing correctly on XP, I'd assume it was a problem at the server, but there seems to be something in either the display of time, or in the way it sends the file's time-stamp.And now I'm testing it on another ftp server, which I think has their time set to UTC (my 10:00a is their 4:00p). Using XP, I create a brand new file locally, and transmit it to this server. It initially appears with the same timestamp as the original file (10:16a). I then do a refresh of the server list (in XP) and it jumps forward 6 hours (4:16p). I look at this server with Windows 7 and it shows that the file has a timestamp of 10:16a. So I copy that file (using Windows 7) to its local drive and it tells me that the timestamp is 4:16p (later today).
MS has made available a test to their servers. It is a very comprehensive test and not just raw speed. You need Java to run the test Performance Test for Internet Connection to Microsoft Online Services

It seems like PC gamers have put enough pressure on Infinity Ward. Either that, or Infinity Ward just wants to get money from PC gamers that they didn't get two years ago due to frustration over the lack of dedicated servers in Modern Warfare 2. Whatever the case is, Infinity Ward and Sledgehammer Games have officially confirmed the support of dedicated servers in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3.

Currently I'm using taskbarelimator, but it sucks to say the least. I've tried multiple programs and haven't found anything real good with the exception of objectdock, it does really good job hiding but it takes a bit of resources compared to the alternatives. I find many windows programs create files that are not hidden but start with ".", and while tecnically this is a problem with the program, almost all of them do this so it would be very nice if windows handled this correctly.
it is possible to stop certain file types from appearing in windows explorer?I'm using Sony Vegas which creates a .sfk file for every clip containing the waveform of any audio. The problem is it's making the folder full of 50+ clips too messy and I can't find the bits I need.I would just hide the files but then if I add more clips to the folder and then Vegas creates another .sfk it's not hidden.

I am not getting in to mac spoofing here; that is not my intention. I simply generally do not like displaying more information than I must.
When dealing with public access routers (often that have no security and also default admin passwords) I would rather not display such information.
Using ubuntu, it was simple enough to not publish my host name (the mac address is of course still logged).
