Windows 7 Not Connecting To Outside Servers?
Mar 28, 2012
I am working with my Systems Administrator at my workplace to troubleshoot an issue we are having with new computers. Computers will connect to the internet through a browser, but clients that need access to a remote server (program updaters, installers, clients that require server access such as online games or itunes) cannot connect.Details: Until recently my company has only used workstations with XP-SP3 operating systems. We connect to the internet through a proxy server. Recently, we began upgrading our systems with Windows 7 Professional machines. At this time we have two. Email, web browsing and file downloads work without a problem. However, whenever a program tries to access an outside server it fails to connect. We don't believe the problem is related to any specific program but to the computer as a whole since the issue is consistent with several programs that need to access servers. One example is the malware program we use. It returns a connection error whenever it tries to update its definitions. Another example is online games (permitted at my company during off-hours). One, in particular, uses a seperate installer to download the game client. The installer cannot connect to the server and pops up a "no internet connection found" message. I have several other examples, each with a unique error message, but the basic issues seems to be the same. They cannot connect to their servers.
We believe this may be a proxy issue. One indication of this is when we tried to access iTunes. When iTunes tried to connect it popped of a proxy authentication box. We filled in the required information and gained access. However, whenever we tried to send any info to iTunes (such as signing in to the store) the authentication box popped up again and we had to re-enter our info.We have tried a multitude of solutions involving settings, firewall, anti-virus, etc. and so far have had no positive results. Also, this appears to be an issue with the individual machines and not the companies proxy settings in genera,l as the XP machines have no problems connecting to these servers using the same programs and they are on the same proxy.

User is unable to login to the system which is a domain computer. Error message " Currently there are no logon servers available". this message occurs when not connected to the network. As per my understanding the password is cached, but doesn't take effect in this scenario.

Quote: There is a reason Mozilla announces the release of a product days after uploading it to their servers. And that reason is that testing is still performed and that finding a serious issue would force the company from shipping the product to end-users (these can be viewed as release candidates).
And this is exactly what happened in the case of Firefox 8.0.1. The build was available for download from Mozillas FTP up until today, when it was deleted because of RoboForm-related issues.
One of the problems the development team was working in order to ready a Firefox 8.1.0 update was gathering information for blocklisting RoboForm DLL. It looks like trouble ran much deeper than that and a second build is now required.
You can still download the initial Firefox 8.0.1 release and it should not cause any trouble as long as you dont mix RoboForm in.

I've got a ThinkPad x220 here and randomly started having issues accessing the network (mapped drives and printers). The computer can still access our Intranet (Sharepoint) and Exchange Server (Outlook says connected and we can send/receive)I tried disconnecting the drives and reconnecting, but none of the servers were showing up in the list. I then checked to see if network discovery and file sharing were turned on... they were. Tried manually going to a network drive (i.e. the public drive

I have a weird problem nowadays. I cant login (not accessing) certain websites without using proxy servers with any browser. Some of sites say somethings about SSL, some of them take me to home page, and u know twitter, it says "somethings gone technically wrong" or sth like that. Even now, I connectted to proxy server to login here. So far now what i have done:
- The date & time are correct
- I cleaned cookies
- I resetted IE settings
- I rebooted my router
- I restarted my computer
Btw, I also have Ubuntu 12.04 and at there, everything works fine. So I think my problem is related with Windows 7.

Warning: the following descriptions involve time travel - you may or may not go cross-eyed. This gets complicated, so follow closely.Windows (7, 64bit, build 7600) Explorer is showing a -6 hour difference in time from my actual file date. This is NOT simply the time difference between my computer (in Central time zone) and the server (on Eastern time). Explorer is ignoring the server's time stamp and subtracting exactly 6 hours from the time of the what the server should say. I know this because I'm also looking at the exact same folder and files using XP and the time stamps are exactly as they should be. I modified a file locally (on Windows 7) and copied it up to the server. The time stamp local is 9:36a. The time stamp on the server should be 10:36a, but instead it says 4:36a. So, I copied a file from the server back to here and it reports locally 6 hours later (10:38a) than what is on the server (4:38a). Looking at the exact same files through explorer on XP shows that the time should have been 10:38a.
If it wasn't for time showing correctly on XP, I'd assume it was a problem at the server, but there seems to be something in either the display of time, or in the way it sends the file's time-stamp.And now I'm testing it on another ftp server, which I think has their time set to UTC (my 10:00a is their 4:00p). Using XP, I create a brand new file locally, and transmit it to this server. It initially appears with the same timestamp as the original file (10:16a). I then do a refresh of the server list (in XP) and it jumps forward 6 hours (4:16p). I look at this server with Windows 7 and it shows that the file has a timestamp of 10:16a. So I copy that file (using Windows 7) to its local drive and it tells me that the timestamp is 4:16p (later today).

MS has made available a test to their servers. It is a very comprehensive test and not just raw speed. You need Java to run the test Performance Test for Internet Connection to Microsoft Online Services

I'm using MS Outlook 2010 I have one POP-Account storing mails in local folder. And also some IMAP Mail accounts.
When I create a mail and save the draft, the draft is allways saved into the local Draft folder, and not to the coresponding (selected by senders account selection within mail) IMAP folder.

It seems like PC gamers have put enough pressure on Infinity Ward. Either that, or Infinity Ward just wants to get money from PC gamers that they didn't get two years ago due to frustration over the lack of dedicated servers in Modern Warfare 2. Whatever the case is, Infinity Ward and Sledgehammer Games have officially confirmed the support of dedicated servers in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3.

I've read posts on this but I still can't get it to work. I did have my Windows 7 connected to my XP, but it didn't work with XP to 7 so I started fiddling with my XP and now I can't access my XP through 7.I don't know if this affects anything but my XP is connected through an ethernet cord because the wireless was unreliable, but my Win 7 is wireless. When I pull up network places on my XP, all I get is a broken link that says 'My Web Sites on MSN', but when I was looking for my 7 from XP, I found it under all MSN network places but it was under a browse box so when I closed out from the browse box, I didn't find it.

I have 3 monitors connected in windows 7 64 bit; VGA, DVI & HDMI/DVI cable. The displays are all there, but I can only get two to work at one time. I can readily switch between them but not get all 3 to be as one extended desktop.I have a feeling I'm missing something simple, like another piece of hardware to extend them as-one.The system is an ASUS CG5270, Quad Core2 Q8300 with Intel G45/G43 Express Chipset (display).I was pleased that I could use the HDMI output to a DVI monitor for the 3rd monitor. It doesn't appear that Windows 7 wants to allow three displays together as one expanded desktop

When I load up windows easy transfer program on my old computer it gives me a 6 diget code, then load up my new computer windows easy transfer program and enter the code. They then try to connect but never do. It times out after a few minutes. Any ideas on what to do? They are both connected to the network and both are set up to share files. I can browse the internet with both but I cant connect the easy transfer program..

Ok ive got the same issue and still no connection or detection of the xp network... I can ping and find all of the computers via the Command Promt without issue...
Network detection and the network map however do not find any of the xp computers or the one legacy computer running windows 98.
this happened after windows update and I havent been able to recover network functionality.
It might be important to note that the other xp computers can connect to the 7 ultimate 64 computer and use its files without issue.

We have an HP 2605dn printer connected to a Windows XP machine and networked to our office. We recently purchased two new PCs and have Windows 7 x64 on them. In trying to set up connection on the new machines to the networked HP printer, we can see the printer referenced in the 'Add a Printer' dialog box, but it will not connect. It says that it is "looking for .INF on <UNKNOWN>" and requires us to find this file before proceeding.
Is it because the host PC for the printer is on XP?

I am running Windows 7 Ultimate 32bit. I have a Virgin Media SuperHub, which is both a wireless modem and 4-port router in one unit.
I have my Xbox 360 connected to the hub via Ethernet cable, and connects to Xbox Live perfectly fine. My computer is connected to the hub as well, and connects to the internet perfectly. I have a HomeGroup set up in my network connections, and I am very sure both devices are connected to the same network. However my computer does not recognise the Xbox being connected to the network, and my Xbox does not show the PC as on the network. So they are both connected by cannot find each other.
I have spent hours fiddling around with network settings, my SuperHub is set to allow other devices to connect through it. My HomeGroup has all sharing options turned on, I have disabled my firewall, I have gone through countless forums stating that Windows 7 has alot of network sharing options automatically disabled as default, therefore I have manually run the system settings and enabled all recommended processes etc. I have restarted my Xbox and PC a million times, but they still won't find each other.

I can see that my home network is there but windows fails to connect to it. I've been though the troubleshooter but nothing seems to work. Now the reason why I know this network works is because my mother and sisters laptop works fine on the network. Also I does sometimes work. If I'm in the same room as router is seems to work fine. But when I'm in the other end of the house it fails to connect even though windows says it has 3-4 bars of the wifi signal. Also on a less important note, when if actually connects the bars on the taskbar only shows it full wifi signal even it it only has 3 or 4.
