After long Google searching, i haven't found a way to disable my Sony Vaio VPC series built-in keyboard (tea spilled on the keys, got a wireless external keyboard but some keys keep getting stuck and i would like to be able to disable the built-in keyboard).
Whenever my laptop is in a sleep state and I accidently press any key on the keyboard, it automatically wakes the computer and I dont want this to happen. I simply just want the power button to wake the laptopI have tried disabling every item within the device manager that has the option, 'Allow this device to wake the computer' but still it is happening.
Currently I'm using the Logitech K400 wireless keyboard with a built in trackpad, but for my next system build I won't be using it because of finicky reception. I'm currently looking for alternatives, and I want your advice. Currently I'm considering one of these: IOGEAR GKM561R Black 2.4GHz Wireless HTPC Multimedia Keyboard with Laser Trackball and Scroll Wheel IOGEAR GKM561R Black 2.4GHz Wireless HTPC Multimedia Keyboard with Laser Trackball and Scroll Wheel. (They seem to be identical but Newegg lists them separately).
I did a easy transfer from my prime laptop of all my files to a netbook. I would like to eliminate some files from the netbook but I don't know if I do that will I eliminate the files on the laptop also.
My keyboard has some really annoying buttons that open up my email, browser, dvd player, and calculator and I accidentally click them a lot. Is there a way I can permanently disable these buttons? I don't see any options under keyboard in my control panel. What other methods might there be?

I recently bought a Packard Bell EasyNote TS computer, but F1-12 is completely messed up with hotkeys and stuff. This kinda sucks as I use these buttons all the time while gaming... How do I disable F5 to enable dual monitors, and F3 to disable / enable wifi, etc. Extremely annoying while gaming World of Warcraft, and i hit the F2 button and PackardBell MyBackup pops up and messes up the whole game...
I use two keyboard layouts on my computer--English and Russian. I switch between the two using left Ctrl+Shift. I want to remap my keyboard so that in both keyboard layouts my "caps lock" key does nothing and my "insert" key becomes a caps lock key.
Attached are a couple of screen shots of what I currently have in my registry under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Keyboard Layout.
A Compaq Presario CQ62 Laptop running windows 7. I accidentally spilled wine on it and the keyboard no longer worked.I purchased a Microsoft wired desktop 600, but it has no function keys. On the original keyboard I used Fn E12 to connect to a network, but with the new keyboard I can no longer connect to a network. There must be a workaround?
I recently wiped my laptop clean and reinstalled with windows 7 and the driver for my built-in microphone is not showing up and I can not use my microphone in any program.

I have MSI-GT725-074US laptop with built in 4+1 speaker system for 3 years now. I had no problems before cos msi supported dolby drivers was working. I did a clean Windows 7 install yesterday and seems dolby's utility aint working(crashing) with Windows 7 64 bit. And only 2 speakers are working atm. How can I activate the other 2 speakers and the (mini)sub woofer?I installed latest realtek drivers, went into control panel+sound settings and changed settings to quadraphonic/5.1/7.1 and tried/tested them but no sound from additional speakers. Also there is a dolby tab in properties; I checked "sound space expander" and "Natural Bass"
If you have a laptop and have a problem getting the built in SD / MMC card reader to work then I've found the "generic" one from the Twinhead german site does OK. For X-64 use the Vista driver. Expanding the zip file will give you the 32 and 64 bit drivers.
The most "Generic" drivers seem to come from the F11Y laptop series but choose from other models if this doesn't work.
Most of these drivers are pretty "Generic" so should work with a huge amount of hardware irrespective of your actual model.
HP/DELL/COMPAQ owners are usually pretty lucky as the manufacturers sites are pretty OK. It's when you buy essentially an unknown brand of laptop where you can't find the "manufacturers" site as the laptop is badged under a different name. From the link just click on the Notebook model and get the drivers.
No stupid registration or "Let's scan your computer to see what driver you need" -- and then you are re-directed to a PAY service or more adware nonsense -- I HATE those sites --what if I'm using a different computer to get the driver than the one I install it on.
yesterday I have bought myself a new headset which is well known for its fairly low price combined with a good quality device. I'm talking about the Creative Fatal1ty headset. The reason I bought this headset was because my laptop's built-in mic is from a very crappy quality (the quality of the recorded audio is very poor). So now I have this headset there is one big problem, whenever I record sound or speak through Skype with my family/friends the headset is plugged in (and yes, I have plugged it in the correct headphone jack and microphone jack) into my laptop. But the sound that is being recorded is still being recorded by the built-in microphone and not by the microphone that is attached to my headset. How do I disable the built-in mic?
I have an ASUS laptop model: N43S I used fn-f9 keys to disable my touchpad, and after I pressed these two keys, a picture of a locked touchpad appeared on the screen but the touchpad was still working. So I went to control panel -->device manager-->mice and other pointing devices-->driver but the disable button was disable too.
I should disable my touchpad because I have to type my thesis and the touchpad is a big problem for me.

I have a HP G71 with windows 7 64bit and its really annoying when I get to 13% battery it says low battery and when it gets to 8% it just shuts down... i was wondering if there was a way to disable that function or if there was a way to completly eliminate this function. Ive searched all the battery settings and have searched the internet and sadly cannot find anything about how to get rid of it.

I recently had to get a new hardrive on my laptop. Before this change, I disabled the laptop mousepad and used a regular mouse. I disabled it by going to control panel, clicking on mouse and disable something called 'elan'. (sorry, not computer literate LOL) . Anyway, since the hardware change, this elan option is not there. I am still using the regular mouse but the laptop mouse is still going
