Choosing Operating System In Boot Up Process
Nov 4, 2012When I boot up my Win 7 Pro x64 computer I have to choose either Windows 7 Pro or Windows 7 Pro. One works but the other cannot startup so how do I remove it. I've searched on the internet but they all seem to be for WinXP and require me to choose edit but there is no edit button available.

Overclocking Process - Missing Operating System Error
Feb 1, 2013Ok, so in the process of overclocking, I rebooted my computer and then got the "Missing operating system" error. I reset the CMOS and that didn't work, in the process of trying to boot from my Windows 7 disk/Linux distro's so I can see if one of my drives crashed but nothing seems to want to boot, so I am at a loss. Also, it seems in the BIOS, some of my SATA devices aren't being recognized. That may be because I reset the CMOS but I'm not positive. I can only see one of my SSD's in the BIOS and one of my optical drives.

Feb 1, 2012Is there any difference in xp, vista and windows 7 operating systems regarding. control requests over control pipe.? we have developed drivers for ndis port miniport NDIS driver.its working fine with LTE network in XP and vista. but in case of windows 7 operating systems. when we send control request to stop network to device, we are not getting response from device. we have observed Lecroys usb analyzer logs. we are not getting response. even though we its device side problem. why this issue is not happening in xp and vista.we have two applications for sending control requests to device for starting network.
1) company application.
2) mobile broad band Microsoft provided default application .
this issue happens only with company application. we have compared data in requests send by cm and mobile broadband but no difference.
No Operating System Found But It's Operating
Dec 27, 2012Ran F12 to regain Operating system - long version. Says computer passes everything but there's no operating system found. Did this Twice. Tried "Operating System" CD that came w/ Studio 17 laptop. Hit option to run via CD & never got anywhere after an hour. Tried Reinstall Hardware disk that came w/ laptop. It shows Vista, but laptop came w/ Windows 7. See where it shows the system's checking things out, but never get anywhere.

Feb 9, 2011Problem 1 Anytime I recieve an update or download that comes from online in get an error message and the program will not complete the download process. The error message I get has the pharse that always says %localappdata% usally thier might be something else with this usally refering to what download or update it is. Some times when the retry come up if I unplug the internet connection it will go through. I do have a Wii hooked up wirelessly through the AOL modem. Help
Problem 2 I have 2 printers. The main printer is a HP laserjet 1200 seriers B/W. The second printer is an HP Photosmart4680 which I use for printing pictures. I am having a problem with the Laserjet 1200. Everytime you send something to the printer it will not print. If you open up the printer menu it will say to clear the cue. If you ask the troubleshooter program to fix it it says it has. but you still can not get it ot print anything except a self test/configurations. on that sheet I do not see an error being shown once the cue has been cleared. I can shift anything over to the photosmart [printer and that is printing fine.

Oct 19, 2011Suddenly my Win 7 Home Premium x64 will not boot. The system starts, POSTs then loads the DVD driver, then the screen goes black (not blank but "lit up" black if that makes sense). Then nothing. If I use Hiren's boot cd I can boot up using the "boot from HDD" option fine and Windows operates normally. System restore to a previous configuration made no difference to the original problem. I cannot boot into Safe Mode. F8 just offers me boot order options.
- Running the Windows 7 DVD I find: "No operating system is listed on the Repair Windows option."
- Running Startup Repair finds the following error: "the partition table does not have a valid system partition" which it claims to have repaired, but the error remains and Windows will still not boot.
I followed this advice:
Boot 7 dvd to system recovery options command prompt. Type: Diskpart
list vol (find the vol letter e.g C or partition number e.g. 1 for the system partition )
Sel vol C ( or sel vol 1, obviously use the correct letter or number)
act exi
My system partition was easily identified and listed as healthy so I selected it and made it active. The problem still remains exactly the same. My system is self built just over a year ago, to my knowledge has been running fine, without any hardware issues. I'm prepared to do a clean install if that's what it takes but if there is a way to fix the partition problem without that I'd like to explore it first.

What is the difference between these four ways of restoring or are they completely equivalent? How about the options in the system restore (checkboxes, etc..), I don't think they are self-explanatory, do you have any links where they would be explained well?

Difference Between Windows 7 System Builders/OEM Version?
Dec 19, 2010my father was going to upgrade some components in his computer like his memory, optical drives and his hard drive which is on its last limb. He is running XP Pro on his old harddrive but can't find his disc to install it on the new harddrive. He wants to upgrade to Windows 7 Home Premium, and I know that you can get the system builders/oem versions that don't come with as hefty as a price tag which is what I got when I built my computer and everythings running great.What I wanted to know is what is the difference really between the Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium for System Builders - OEM on persay, newegg and getting Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium which is about twice the price? I know it doesn't go through the windows tutorial and all that, but I was also wondering if he was having issues with windows could he call microsoft or would he be resposible for any issues with windows(not relating to simple stuff like trouble with installation)? Also, since its not entirely a new build, he still has his old motherboard in his computer, could he use the system builders/oem version without any issues? I don't know if microsoft would have anything to say, I don't want to cause him any hassel or trouble to save a few bucks. And also lets say his motherboard bites the dust in 6 months, would he have any issues using the oem windows 7 if he had to replace that and possibly had to reinstall it on the original hard drive he installed it?

BUT some of the time it's evenly divided up between all 4 cores.

I am using the proprietary restore software to (try) to reload the OS back to factory condition. I have tried several times to fix it, each time with no success. I have already written zeros to every sector of the HDD, so I'm trying to start from scratch. The restore disk/process takes place over three disks I had to create as soon as I got the laptop. The first disk went through fine, and now the second disk is in, with the percentage stuck up at 24%. It got there fairly quickly, but it's been stuck like this for at least an hour now. I'm tempted to wipe the disk again, but I'm hesitating because the HDD light is on and I can hear the DVD drive doing something, though I'm not sure what.
The loading bar/progress bar isn't budging, but the green background of it is changing color (like it does when something is going on.) It is sending me no error messages, and I'm just wondering if I should let it keep going or do it some other way. When I insert the first disk, there are two options to boot from, either the "VAIO care rescue," which is what I'm doing now (I selected the restore option in its menu) or you can choose "Windows 7 install" or something along those lines, I tried that but there didn't appear to be any option to actually install under there, since it didn't detect any "images" on any drives. Regardless, I need to get this thing up and running.

System Idle Process Using All CPU - Two OS Installed On Machine
Sep 22, 2011For the past week the System idle process has been hogging all my CPU. Have done the usual investigative routes, scans, safe mode scans etc. I have used my residential products: Malwarebytes, Superanti-spyware, Eset SS5 and have tried a couple of others being Hitman pro and Kaspersky on-line virus scanner. Since the problem started I have been trying to think of any odd installations but nothing springs to mind, to that end I have already put two different OS's on the machine and the problem still exists even in safe mode! I'm Running Win 7 x64.

Jun 18, 2012Today I've turned computer on, and when Windows loaded, I saw that CPU load of my computer is 25-35 % and is caused by "System Idle process". Ok, I know that this process works when computer does nothing, but I've noticed one important thing - until this process wasn't working on my laptop, PC was working on batteries up to 5 hours, now, when this in normal process is working, time on batteries is 2h 50 min (max)... How I can turn off that process? I've already reinstalled Windows, only because of that problem, and I was happy only 3 days, today, this process returned. I use Russian version of Windows. System Idle Process Running Before Windows 7 Starts?
Aug 17, 2012In the last 2 days when I start my Win 7 Pro x64 PC I have a problem. After the Welcome screen goes I get a blue screen (Not BSOD) with my cursor in the centre and my Windows 7 title in the bottom right-hand corner. This lasts for about 90 seconds then Windows starts up. I pressed Control, Alt and Delete whilst the blue screen was up and selected Task Manager. The only Process running was System Idle Process. I thgought it was only supposed to run when the system was idle not starting up. I know Windows will not allow you to stop the process but what is causing it to run. My computer is normally a fast start-up - about 32 seconds, but suddenly this. What have I done to my dream machine (12 gb of Ram, 5 hard-drives)?

Dec 6, 2011I recently installed some new hardware into my computer.
Specs:
Gigabyte Z68XP-UD4
i5 2500k @ 4.5GHz
HyperX DDR3 1600
2x HD5870s
PC P&C 750W PSU
Crucial M4 64GB SSD (for my OS)
Everything went fine, computer performs top notch. But I'm having several issues (note, these issues happened BEFORE the CPU overclock also, so that isn't the problem).
1. Randomly (doesn't happen often), my computer will seem to lose internet connection. I'm hard wired right to my Linksys E3000, and it says that I'm connected, but no internet sites will load. Also, I cannot open the "network and sharing center". It just won't let me click on the icon in the task bar. And my CPU usage hovers around 25-30% when this happens. I downloaded and installed Process Explorer to see what the culprit was, and I noticed that of the 30% CPU usage, "System Idle Process" was taking up 75% of said CPU usage. It doesn't happen often at all, and restarting clears the problem up. But even though this SSD is lightning fast.
2. Smaller problem, but sometimes when I want to shutdown or restart, my computer just wont. It will sit at the "shutting down" screen forever and will basically do nothing, like there is a process in the background preventing it from doing its thing.

Sep 23, 2012I'm experiencing very annoying issue. CPU loaded with System Idle Process always. Because of that there is serious lag in iterfase. Problem appeared almost sumultaniusly on there different PCs. Using "Process Explorer" and going to System Idle Process - Threads I've found processes with names: ntoskrnl.exe!KiDespatch Interrupt+0x650 (on one PC) or ntoskrnl.exe!KiCpuId+0x6a0 (on two others)
I have three diffenent machines - one old acer laptop, one modern desktop and wmware virtual machine running on macbook. All have same OS - win 7 ultimate sp1. All of them are in the same network.
I've tried to localise issue by removing services and applications from startup - nothing, I've scanned machines with microsoft security essentials, Dr Web CureIT and Kaskpersky virus removal tool. Still nothing.
CPU get loaded as soon as system starts. Number of ntoskrnl.exe instances equals to number of CPU kernels. 1, 2 and 8 in my case on different PCs .
Session Manager Initialization System Process Terminated Unexpectedly
Apr 23, 2011BSOD: The session manager initialization system process terminated unexpectedly with a status of 0xc000003a (0x00000000, 0x00000000) I'm getting this on a shop system running Win 7 Home Premium 32 bit. The last thing I did was shutdown before going home and I believe it installed an update then shutdown, so I'm suspecting the update caused the problem.
I can't get into the F8 Safe Mode screen to try Last known good configuration so I think I'll try a System Restore from the install DVD. Does that sound like a good approach?
I don't have the specs with me but I think it's a 2.8Ghz Dual core Intel with 4GB RAM and two SATA drives. It's been running fine for about a year.
