Jan 20, 2011My taskbar buttons are set to never combine. Each instance of a program is separate. However, they seemed to be locked together when I want to move them. What's particularly annoying is that if I want instance A of this program to be on the left I can't move it if I already have another instance of the program open (instance B). They are locked in their left and right positions.
If I wish to move them around relative to different programs open in my taskbar that's fine. However, if I wish to move them among each other they're locked in place.
Is anyone aware of a way to disable this? I believe I was able to do this at some point on my laptop which also used windows 7.
Can Combined System Reserved And A Backup Partition
May 28, 2012I've added another HDD to my system. On my older HDD which is 1 TB, 3Gb/s,w/6b of cashe. I have two partitions on it called System Reserved (100 Mb) and Back Up Disk (250 Gb). The newer HDD is 1 TB, 6Gb/s w/32Mb of cashe.My PC will handle the 6 Gb/s transfer rate.Should I put these partitions on the newer faster drive?Can I and/or should I combine these partitions?If I can combine them what size should I make a new Partition @150GB?s above will also relate to the moving the BackUp files too?I've estimated what i think the size of the partitions above should be, should I change them? Down the road I'd like to multl boot with Linux and XP Pro I'm using Windows 7 64b Ultimate it's on a SSD all by itself?

Sep 11, 2012I installed two new 120GB SSD drives into my system. Previously, I had two 1TB drives in a RAID 0. After doing a performance test to see if there was a speed increase, I also bound the two new 120Gb SSDs into a NEW RAID 0.The idea was to use the new, faster array for windows, and whatever programs I am currently using, and then use the old array for storage. I could install windows on the new drives with So, I proceeded to install Windows 7 on the new array, leaving the old array alone. Installation went without a hitch. I looked at my new drive under My Computer- 1.98 TB. NOT the 240GB partition I just made, and NOT the 1.74 TB partition I used before the new drives.It, for some reason I cant fathom, combined all 4 drives, encompassing BOTH arrays, new and old HDD and SSD into one partition, and had installed windows OVER TOP OF ALL MY DATA.I dont know WHY this happened, but what do I do now to get my data back? I tried starting the computer without the new array, but it wont boot. I need my data back, and I need to get windows installed on the new array, the way I wanted.

This problem started about 2 months ago. Windows takes a long time to shut down, at least 5 minutes. Sometimes it doesn't shut down and reboots.Every shuts down normally, then the grey screen "SHUTTING DOWN" just seems to hang.On one recommendation I updated the BIOS, that didn't seem to work.I scanned in safe mode with Malware Bytes Anti Malware and the computer is clean. I use AVAST antivirus.
Desktop Will Not Shutdown Properly After Using Sleep Mode
Jul 28, 2012recently, i've noticed that whenever i sleep my computer, attempting to shut it down later does not work. the process just hangs at the Windows 7 screen with the Shutting down...message. i've let it run for 30 minutes one time and nothing happened, still Shutting down... every time this has happened, i end up manually powering off. the computer shows no ill effects on start up (other than the 'your computer shut down improperly' message). i can't find any unusual events in event viewer, either. it shuts down fine when not having used sleep mode. to sum it up: when i power on my computer normally and DO NOT use sleep mode at all between a shut down, everything is fine. when i power on my computer normally and DO use sleep mode at some point between the shutdown, the computer will typically HANG at the shut down screen and not actually shut down. however, what makes this tough to trouble shoot is that sleeping it for 5 or 10 minutes will have no effect on shutting down...but sleeping it overnight (7-8 hours) will. this problem has been occurring for about 3 months now, though i only started noticing the trend recently. i typically shut my computer off during the week and sleep it through Friday and Saturday and then shut it down again on Sunday (now, i shut it down all the time of course). the computer is virus and malware free according to MSE and Mbam. the only thing i can think of that i installed in between now and 2 months ago were various Steam games and graphics drivers updates. my HDD has never given me any trouble, memory is fine, CPU isn't overheating, etc, etc. my specs are Windows 7 (legit copy before anyone asks), 8gb RAM, 2500k, AMD 6950, Samsung Spinpoint 1TB (regular HDD, no SSD).

Apr 16, 2012I have two windows updates that keep failing. When i go to shutdown my computer I always have an update icon attached to the shutdown key. The download is always 1of1. Then when i reboot, the update icon is still there. I'm thinking since the two updates are failing, it has something to do with the 1of1 update not downloading properly. I went to windows update to check for new updates, and the only one is the two that keep failing. My computer just blue screened on shutdown today, winch got me thinking i really need to fix this.

Oct 26, 2011When I save files from programs (aka Word, Photoshop, anything)onto my Desktop, I cannot see them directly from the actual desktop. I can only see them when I open up Explorer, and click on the Desktop tab. Then all my files are visible. I thought they were hidden...but they apparently aren't.It possibly seems like a refresh error.I did find a way around this..I go to Control Panel >> Appearance and Personalization >> Under Folder Options >> Show Hidden Files and Folders. I click on Reset folders, Apply, and then OK, and my missing files pop up on my actual desktop.But from then on, any new files I save are only visible in Explorer again. I don't want to go to Control Panel everytime I have to save something to the desktop? I've run Norton and Microsoft Essentials and I have no viruses. What can I do?I just found out I can also see my files after pressing f5 (refresh)so I guess the problem is HOW do I get my computer to refresh the desktop automatically?

May 25, 2012I have a really annoying problem with desktop icons.I use 2 monitors. 1920x1200 is the main dislay and 1600x1200 is another one for extended desktop. The thing is that I don't need it all the time so I'd like to switch the extended desktop on and off when I need it. Problem is that entering the ex. desktop just somehow changes the grid (it seems that the grid becomes more compressed in vertical direction). That means that it always messes my icons up. I don't know why do the Windows change the grid when I do not change the resolution or just anything that could possibly affect the main screen.
