Right Click Folder Crash With Only Folders With 1 Letter Names
Jan 15, 2013kind of unusual this one. When I copy with right click everything works like a charm BUT I have 2 folders that have 1 letter names only, when I right click these to copy or cut I get this error and it crashes explorer and i have to restart explorer

Edit sorry my system is WIndows 7 x64 and if i rename the folders to something with more letters it will copy fine. What is causing it to crash with just a 1 letter name?

Nov 16, 2009I lost my Event Viewer, and had to do a repair installation to fix it. Unfortunately, during the repair install, Windows decided to rename my second HD as the D: drive... it was K: before that. Now I cannot access any of my docs, pictures, music, or videos through the normal means... they don't show up in libraries or explorer, and apps like Restorator and Sure Thing (CD labeler) cannot find them. I think that means the paths are broken..?
It won't allow me to rename the HD back into K: (it's not listed as available). I can access the data by clicking Computer > D, and I can see the data is there, but its unusable as of now. Any ideas?

There was a nasty virus on it that I managed to get rid of, but now programs won't run unless I first right click and click "Run as Administrator". Shortcuts also won't work (I assume for the same reason.) Does anyone know of a fix for this so we don't have to constantly click "Run as Administrator"? By the way, there is only one user on the computer and it is an administrator.

Nvidia Color Control Versus Windows Color Control Settings?
Oct 12, 2010I am trying to set my monitor's screen give accurate renditions of my pictures. I use Quick Gamma to set gamma. When doing this I can use either Nvidia's controls or windows controls (right click desktop>Nvidia Control Panel. When using Nvidia's Control Panel, there are two choices: Use other applications control color settings or Use Nvidia settings. Am I correct in assuming that the former setting is Windows? I always check the button to use Nvidia settings (and then Apply>OK), but when I go back to this screen at a later time, the Other applications control color settings is always selected. I'd like to default to Nvidia.

My internet is on ISP Cable.
I had many problems with Cable Operators.
Once upon a time, I could connect computer and laptop on my Motorola SB5101e modem, since it has ethernet and USB.
Suddenly, something changed, and no long I can connect both.
Now, if I try to connect laptop (and regularly using internet on computer previously), on laptop will be "No or limited connectivity (laptop is XP).
I asked Cable operator why is this, and they said that it has to be like that, bla bla...
Somethimes, I lose connection on my computer, and "no or limited..." shows, exclamation mark also.
Well, it's not written "no or limited..", because computer is on my native language.
I saw that some user on this forum, whose nick is "zay", said that this can be easily bypassed if Cable is used as ISP.
I know that there's problem with ip configuration (or protocol).
Somethimes, if this problem can't be solved just by turning computer and modem off, I have to call cable operator to say him to "restart (or reset) "something"".
What do they "restart" (or reset)?
After that, everything works fine.
So, I would like to know what do they do in that kind of situation (what they do reset), and is there any possibility for me to solve that without calling them?
Limited OS Functioning After Chkdsk?
Oct 22, 2012I wanted to delete a folder in my documents but it was giving me an error which I cannot remember exactly now, but after doing some research, most sites had suggested that I run a Chkdsk. My computer successfully completed the Chkdsk, but now my computer is in some sort of coma where it loads up fine, but after logging in, there is no text whatsoever on the screen. On top of this the start bar does not work and any explorer based functions are extremely large,pixelated and absent text.I'm using Windows 7 Ultimate x32 on a 2009 Toshiba Satellite In the last year of high school and don't have most of my files backed up anywhere?

Mar 5, 2012I have a COMPAQ Presario CQ62-215DX Notebook. This laptop ran very well until the day its internet suddenly failed. When I try to connect to my WiFi connection, it says "The computer currently has limited connectivity to X". I tried troubleshooting, and it said there was a problem with my network adapter. I went to Control Panel > Hardware & Sound> Device Manager. From there, I disabled and enabled all of my adapters, but my internet was still non-functional. The problem isn't my router, because my husband and kids are connected perfectly. Is there a way to solve this issue, or do I have to get an expert to EDIT: I saw on a thread that I should try uninstalling and re-installing an updated network adapter, but how am I supposed to do that without internet?

I tried connecting to other wifi but same thing. I tried resetting the router, disabling and enabling the wireless connection but all didnt work. Nov 20, 2011I have recently installed Windows 7 on our two wfi networked pcs. The older of the two consists of a Asus A8N-VM CMS mobo with 3Gb Ram and Athlon 64 3000+ CPU. The second pc has an Asus M5A78L-M LX mobo ithe 4GB Ram and Athlon II X2 Dual core 250 3.00GHz cpu. Both were previously running XP and had no bandwidth or streaming issues. Since loading W7, the older pc is having problems with low bandwidth when playing live tv fromthe BBC for instance, but if XP is started there is no problem at all.
The newer pc streams perfectly and I could watch tv on it all day without it freezing.I have also found that IE9 makes it worse and have gone back toIE8.
