I have followed instructions on various forums regarding the none existence of a "New Contact" button in my Contacts folder.I open properties only to find the "Customize" tab isn't there.
For some reason, Windows 7 has decided that files in my root directory C: are music files. In every other folder, I can click on Properties, then choose Customize, then choose "Optimize This Folder For..." and choose the type I want - Documents, Photos, Music, General Items. You know the drill. If I click on Properties when I'm in the root C: drive, I get a pie chart showing me how much space I have left and lots of other choices, none of which let me view my files as "General Items."I don't want to sort my files in my c: directory by artist. There are no artists. Stop being helpful, Windows 7, and thinking I want it this way. I want it to be General Items. How do I do that?
Is there a way to rename or create new sorting option with custom text ?there is a lot of categories, however i need to have my own custom labeled field then in the Detail view panel, by default, in the small size, there are these fields ready to edit:
- tags - categories - content status
the easiest way would be if i could rename those to my needs so it stays easily editable for the user?
i ave a strange problem with my Windows Live Messenger (2011). When i loggin into mail.live.com nd sing on web i see all people online there and i can talk to them. But when i log into WLM there are only 15 contacts and none of them is online, even if they are on the web based chat (in the email). I use Windows 7 x64 Ultimate and the newest WLM (updated).
I opened up my Live Mail today and my contacts are all missing. It says you have 0 contacts. When I redid my computer lately I was pleasantly surprised that even with my computer completely restored to it's original state, when I reinstalled Windows Live Mail all of my contacts appeared on their own.Anyone know how I can get them back, Windows Live Mail has been acting strange lately asking my to sign in to my Windows Live Account etc, which it doesn't normally do.
All my contacts were missing after the last update of Windows Mail. My cousin had the same issue.I could find my contacts list on my C: drive but they weren't linked together anymore.By logging into Windows live (@live.com email) the problem was corrected. But what about those people who don't use or don't remember their login for their @live.com account? How do you link the 'Contact' file from your hard drive to your Windows Live??
Recently noticed that I don't have a target field on my Shortcut properties menu.Haven't really needed it until recently for a few games. This is just one of many issues I've been coming across recently. Windows 7 Ultimate 64-Bit, if that's
I recently replaced my Hard drive. I had been backing up using Win 7 Back-up. After replacing my hard drive due to failure I have had issue restoring. I first tried to restore with the image after a while it gave me a failure error. So I the reinstalled windows with the original disks that I created when computer was purchased. I reinstalled most of my programs and was able to restore data with the backup. Most of my data was restored but I am missing some information. One is my contacts in Windows live mail. Where in the back up data might my contacts be and where they go. I am also sometimes having issues with windows recognizing the data on my usb hard drive. The backup data and windows backup image are there but when I run restore, advanced recovery methods, it does not find the data on the drive. It states that no back up data could be found The drive is showing.
I am using Windows 7I can not open a gif file sent to me. Only one way I know how to open is:~ right click on gif~ click on "properties"~ click on "change"...but there is no "change"...
I have a fresh install of win 7 64 bit Home Premium. When I right click on a shortcut and open its properties dialog, the only tabs i get are "General", "Compatibility", "Security", "Details", and "Previous Versions", but no "Shortcut" tab. I have searched the Web and there are very few instances of this problem and no solution. I have tried everything I can think of with no success.
Is there a way to change the Win 7 start menu orb without using third party software? I already have a graphic and was using and app do it, but it seemed to cause other issues.
I'm running the 7100 build of windows 7 and I've noticed a big change to how i browse around directories..

I tried filename but it only shows the same info as name

In win xp, within any folder we had a toolbar which we could customize and put buttons for cut, copy paste, delete etc. I am really lacking the delete function button. Its just too much work to right click, scroll down and delete what I want to.
I have bought myself a new lapto - Sony - with windows 7 64bit installed on it. My old systme also have windows 7 but only with 32bit. Here is my problem.n the old system I could take the option Properties by rigth clicking on any folder and change the Icon from the windows selection. However on the new Sony it wont allow me to do that. It does not even bring up the option to chage the icon.
Windows 7 shuts down my sound system after about 2 minutes. I can see the LED on my A-L speakers turn off. Any sound will wake it back up but if it's only a ping it doesn't wake fast enough for me to hear it. This didn't happen with this same hardware on Win2k (I skipped XP and Vista).I went through the Advanced Power Settings but under Multimedia I don't have an option for sound.I'd rather not disable power saving completely, so I'd like to find a way to prevent the sound system from going to sleep at all.
Is there a way to customize context menus? For example, if I right click on the task bar a context menu comes up and one of the options is Start Task Manager. This menu option runs tskmgr.exe in the Windows/system32 folder. Can I make a option like this or change the option in the menu to run a different program or shortcut?
Not sure if i am in the right area to ask this but wanted to see if the below is possible:We are working in a large business that has the good old 'Ctrl Alt Del' option enabled (like most) - so for anyone to log into the computer (whatever OS) it prompts for a username/passwordI wanted to see if we can add a link onto the screen (dialog box) - Basically if a user has forgotten their password - instead of calling the Helpdesk of that company - they could click this link and it would take you to a internal page (that the company has setup to reset/go through the steps of resetting their password)
I can't seem to find the way to customize the Menu Bar, the one right above the Command bar. When I right-click on it, it gives me only the "lock the toolbar" option. It has the usual suspect buttons now, "File, "Edit", "View" etc, but I want to add Cut, Copy, Paste, Delete etc.
Has anyone found a way to change the "Welcome" screen without downloading a "fix" from the inet?
I've tried creating a jpeg (the correct size) in windowssystem32oobeinfoackgrounds (saved as defaultBackground) and making a chage in the registry to:
HKLM>Software>Microsoft>Windows>Current Version>Authentication>LogonUI>Background... Key OEMBackground value 1 ... but to no avail.
What is interesting is that the original MS background file ((bitmap) in system 32oobe) that is the welcome screen has security permissions on it .... with Adminstrators only having Read/Read and Execute ONLY... O.O
I am trying to customize special characters map and make a list of favorites to use (just like mac characters viewer). Is this possible ? it is a pain to keep scrolling through the characters when I have to use them constantly in different applications (word, excel, indesign, etc.
My notification area always displays all icons and notifications, but when I want to customize those systray icons, for some reason I can no longer use "Restore default icon behaviors" or make any other customations. In window "Select which icons and notifications appear on the taskbar" all the options beneath "Behaviors" are inaccessable (showing 'Only show notifications' in a greyed out fashion). Also, when trying to click on any icon beneath "Icons" nothing happens.
At the bottom the selection option "Always show all icons and notifications on the taskbar" is greyed out and its checkbox unmarked.
When I click on "Turn system icons on or off" I get the correct window ("Turn system icons on or off"), and "Behaviors" are accessable. However, when clicking "Restore default icon behaviors" nothing happens. Clicking on "Customize notification icons" brings me back to the "Select which icons..." window with those non working options.
I have tried Brink's tutorial "How to Hide or Show System Icons and Notifications in Windows 7", but no matter which of the included .reg files I merge, nothing changes and "Always show all icons and notifications on the taskbar" stays greyed out with its checkbox unmarked.
Otherwhise, my system (Windows 7 64-bit Ultimate) runs great, I just cannot make some systray customations that I would now like to.
