I have this issue of my computer hanging and becoming irresponsive at random times such that am unable to do anything until and hard shut down and restart. This does not happen at start up or shut down but just while am browsing (mostly) and sometimes while doing other things. View 3 Replies[SOLVED]couple of curse words and a sfc /scannow seems to have fixed the problem :DMy HDD has some bad sectors on it (I already ordered a new HDD because I think this one is going to fail soon) sometimes when I boot up in my BIOS after the POST I will get a HDD not detected error if I cold boot it goes away and I am presented with my GRUB (I dual booted Win7 & Linux Mint). View 1 Replies View RelatedI've owned my custom computer for about 3 years now, done various upgrades on it. But now I don't understand what's happening. When I play Games or doing normal browsing, my computer will hang and everything will freeze for about a minute or two. It's more when I play Video games than when I surf the internet. It then returns to normal and I can do whatever for the next 10-15 minutes, and then it does it again. I tryed to get past it but it starts to do it more frequently.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm having random Windows 7 complete system hangs.They produce no errors or warnings in the log other than a notice of an incomplete shutdown. I'm using the intel chipset driver for Vista with the system, and the Realtek HD audio driver for vista with it (this was happening before that driver being installed) and everything else is the default windows 7 driver, it's guaranteed to happen on Skype starting up with a lot of unread events, and copying a file to the desktop with Filezilla, but sometimes it's just random. Complete freeze, no mouse, no keyboard, no ctrl+alt+del Here's my computer specs:

Linksys PCI 802.11G wireless adapter (using 64 bit ralink drivers since the chipset matches, no prior issues when used on Windows 7 7000) Being through, I ran stress testers on maximum load on each hardware component, no crash on full CPU load, no crash on HDD load test, both drives and no crash on high RAM usage.I also remember similair symptoms on Vista, but this also did not happen iirc on Windows 7 7000.The system was overclocked during install, I reset the BIOS to "optimised defaults" after a few crashes, no difference.
I've had my new computer since February and haven't had any major problems with it whatsoever.However, theres one little annoying thing; randomly, the computer will hang/freeze.I first noticed this when iTunes stopped playing music - it had frozen and I noticed the LED light on the desktop was completely lit and wasn't flashing at all, as if it was doing something really big.When it happens, normally I try and open Task Manager to see which program is using up the most Memory but Task Manager only opens when the computer has unfrozen and music has started playing again.I can continue browsing on whatever Internet page I am on also, so the whole computer hasn't frozen but sometimes when I try and see if I can open other programs via the Taskbar, the timer appears next to the mouse.These hangs happen completely randomly; its only ever done it once during a day but sometimes it can go quite a few days before it does it again and the hangs only last for a few seconds, once or twice though it has lasted for a few minutes.
The common thing is normally it happens when i'm playing music via iTunes and I only notice its frozen because music has stopped playing and iTunes becomes unresponsive, so i'm thinking it could be iTunes causing the lag as it can freeze quite a bit normally anyway (I have made sure though i got the 64-bit version).I think once it happened when I wasn't playing any music, but iTunes was still open.Its not a virus/malware/etc... and I've checked the Event Viewer directly after a freeze to see if any error was reported
when the issue occured but nothing.
At various, seemingly random points throughout using the computer, Windows 7 simply freezes or locks up. No BSOD or error code is given, it simply becomes completely unresponsive. That program hangs up while Windows 7 continued to work. I'd love for it to be fully operational. It is not used for any gaming - online or otherwise. I use it for internet and school work (Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat, etc)

View 5 Replies View Relatedi recently purchased a new toshiba laptop with windows 7 64bit installed, which worked pretty well until i ran into a random crash a few days ago. i'm not sure why it happened, but at the time, i was running a Internet video and then i got a post on google talk. at that point, the computer froze on the sound and i wasn't able to use the mouse anymore. it acted like a stop error, even though no blue screen popped up or anything. it seems like it freezes like this when i leave the computer on for a long period of time or something. it's happened around three times, once with the google talk sound, and twice with the skype sound, and all three times Internet was opened.
anyway, ever since that initial crash, i've had a hard time starting up the computer. the first time, i attempted to run the task manager and click the "show processes from all users" button, however after clicking the button, the computer seems to hang at loading consent.exe, and the cpu was around 4% or so. i was also trying to load google chrome, but it wouldn't load either. after waiting about 5 minutes, i pressed ctrl-alt-delete, which then i got an error that the window couldn't load.the second time i tried running the task manager, i noticed that the networking and sharing center wouldn't work at all. i could run programs (that weren't internet browsers), as well as the control panel... but i couldn't open the networking and sharing window from either the control panel or the icon on the taskbar. consent.exe was hanging in this instance as well.
after those two times, i was able to get the computer working again and didn't have too many problems as long as the computer was on. ran into the problem again after successfully shutting down windows one night, then trying to turn it back on the next day. however, this was even more odd because explorer.exe crashed on its own, but i hadn't done anything since i turned the computer on. i also couldn't get the task manager open for some reason.today, after leaving the computer off since last night, i tried turning on the computer again, and once again the computer hanged on trying to load google chrome and the task manager. this time, the task manager wouldn't load, but the icon would appear in the taskbar (frozen. can't right click it or anything.) and skype was working. i made a comment on google talk, but that froze after i got a response.i was able to hit the shut down button in that instance, but after waiting 8 minutes, the windows logoff screen wouldn't show up, so i just shut it down and turned it on again.
I have an HP EliteBook 8440p. I installed Windows 7 Professional in it. I got it second hand and i dont have much past history about it. But since the installation it is hanging, stucking and giving BSOD randomly.. sometime opening Chrome, sometime listening to song, sometime playing Windows games. Sometime while moving it or just changing it a little like while I am sitting on couch and moves forward a little.. I opened it and tightened hard disk screws and memory...

I've got a new copy of windows 7 (32 bit version) I have got 4 GB ram only 3,25 in use (like I had on the XP version, running on the same PC) and after I boot up the PC I just look at the desktop, play with some random games, create and delete folders, do some little stress to the RAM or sometimes just doing nothing. The only boot that works is safe mode and its variants.
Things that I've done in the past 7 days:
-I checked RAM integrity - no errors
-Everything is up to date (drivers, everything) - it hanged/froze even with a fresh copy of Windows 7
-I use wireless if that is a problem, found some errors about it and will post them after this list
-enabled services and disabled them VIA msconfig (toying around I found out that it WONT CRASH with any internet service on normal mode)
-I checked Windows 7 compatibility and it's 100% compatible
-Tried to update BIOS but I don't think it will solve anything anyways
-Used dozens of registry cleaners (CCleaner and lots; lots more) - still nothing
-Put a second HDD on my machine with Windows 7 same version, it still crashed, but on the second machine the second HDD works great.

Computer runs very slow. Computer freezes randomly. Does not want to boot past windows startup except for in safe mode(SOMETIMES). IF IT BOOTS takes and an incredibly long time to get to the desktop (20-45min). Does not want to run programs. Runs EXTREMELY slowly (makes a windows 95 pc look like a speed demon.) Random restarts, restart loops, and shutdowns. Sometimes after turning on it will immediately shut off then turn back on. Keeps recommending windows repair on startup. Wants to run chkdsk, then freezes on it.Malware detection programs. Hardware diagnostic programs. registry tools. disk defrags. Driver updates. Windows updates. BIOS update. System restore. Windows repair tool. Repair installation (twice). WINDOWS 7 CLEAN INSTALLATION (twice).Exactly the same as the first day it started happening. View 8 Replies View RelatedComputer posts, then checks hard disk RAID status (Healthy), then a white blinking cursor appears on upper left corner on black screen, and hangs there forever, UNLESS i put in a Windows bootable CD, then based on my boot priority order (CD ROM, HD) it reads the CD, then it displays "Press any key to boot from CD or DVD...", for which i don't press anything, and the computer proceeds to boot Win 7 OS correctly. So basically it doesn't boot unless i just have a bootable CD in tray.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI was shutting down my laptop last night and there was a program (Adobe Reader, I think) that caused it to wait before shutting down. I left it assuming it would eventually shut down. I pushed the power button this morning to turn the computer on, and it says "resuming Windows" and then goes to the screen that says "Logging off". It has been hung up on that screen for over 30 minutes now, so who knows how long it did that last night when it was supposed to shut down. I can press and hold the power button to get it to power down, but when I press the power button again, it starts the same "resuming Windows" stuff all over again. I tried tapping the F8 button when it was restarting, but no luck. I can't use my computer at all, This is a pretty new laptop (Dell), so this is especially frustrating. Not to mention I have LOTS of work to do and I everything is on that laptop.

This laptop will work fine when it is booted up and for ~30 minutes after that. Then it starts to get slow to the point where web pages refuse to load and it takes a good 2-3 MINUTES to open up Task Manager. CPU usage is not high at all when this happens. I have run Memtest86+ as well as Seatools for Windows and the diagnostic tools from the BIOS to rule out a hardware problem. I have backed up my files and reinstalled Windows, only to have the same thing happen. Scans with Malwarebytes and Microsoft Security Essentials have come up clean as well.
Having an issue with my laptop and gaming, the games should by no means cause it to hang like this. Even older games like Half life will hang, I will be playing along and the game will hang, or freeze for a few seconds then go back to normal. This is kinda frustrating especially while playing online.

Asus P5Q PRO (latest bios,waiting if Asus is ever going to release the EFI also for my motherboard lol just like happened with P5Q Deluxe,anyway).
In bios options if I select AHCI i get faster performance and system responsiveness,but from time to time,it could happen anytime,i get complete hangs up so i have to hard reboot my pc. I tried EVERYTHING,also Intel sata ahci latest driver for my motherboard and nothing works. This happens with both 32 and 64 bit of Windows 7,and it doesn't seem to happen if it's set to IDE (which definitely makes my computer less responsive). Thanks in advance to anyone that will help me

View 6 Replies View RelatedI have a Toshiba L505-L5007 laptop and a while back the audio went out on it. After days of trying to find the problem to no avail, I was advised to try a complete factory restore because the person thought it was an OS issue. Well, now I try to restore it to factory settings but the OS hangs at the configuration screen on the 5th reboot. Is there something that I might have overlooked? I've tried scouring the internet for people with the same problems, but I can't seem to find anyone with the same problem. I've also tried upgrading the BIOS in case there was a problem there keeping Windows 7 from installing. Right now the laptop will come on, and only runs well in any of the safe modes, if I try to boot it normally it'll try to finish the installation and freeze.

It could be 1 min or 15 min after start up and does not look to be linked to any 1 program. when it happens the computer will slow down for a min then I just get the round circle icon and nothing works, I cant even do Ctr Alt Del. I have done AVG scan and Superantispyware and all was fine apart from tracking cookies. I have also taken most unused programs out of MSCONFIG startup and still no luck.I will try and run the SysInfo tool and Hijackthis on the computwer now and post the results (Im using a different computer to post this)When it starts to slow Task manager, if i have it open in time, shows nothing strange cpu between 0% and 20%

Windows live mail is what I use for email.
Basically, what happens is, if a game runs in fullscreen, there's a slight chance my computer stops responding entirely. The HDD Indicator flickers, and buzzing can be heard- as if it is trying to play the game. However, I am met with a black screen and no sound. I can not Ctrl-Alt-Del or Ctrl-Shift-Esc; it does nothing.It is also very erratic, it seems to be quite selective of what games do, and what games don't run, for instance, Half Life 2 and it's episodic expansions, as well as L4D2 and 1- Portal, and Portal 2 run fine. Fallout 3 and New Vegas, the same. UT2004 Runs swell. UT3 however, hangs. Metro 2033, Hangs. Skyrim works beautifully. Oblivion Hangs.I'd like to think it is a resolution issue, as I am using a 17" TV with HDMI. The resolution is at 1280 x 720, and my Graphics card is a Nvidia GeForce 550Ti. My Operating System is Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have Win XP installed on my PC and I have tried several times to do a dual boot with Windows 7 RC and after each attempt I have put my system back to normal by reformatting the Windows 7 partition with Acronis Disk doctor and reimaging XP Pro with Acronis true Image.
What happens is I go through the install and the green progress bar goes pretty well right across the screen and all the stages are checked of as they are done then I get the screen that the computer wants to reboot and I let it time out and when it starts up again I get "Press any key to boot from CD or DVD" the first time I left it because I didn't want to reinstall again after some time with the PC still at that screen I pressed a key and nothing happened.
Another time I pressed the key and it wanted to do another installation so I let it do a repair and when it rebooted the same thing so I tried again and removed the disk when it rebooted and when the PC gets through POST I get a black screen with a blinking cursor that I cant type anything to.
I would imagine that if I can get past this point it would be where I type in the product key.
I have tried this disk on another computer in Ubuntu with virtual box and it installed ok. I have the boot order correct I have recently installed XP pro on it. I am using a PS2 keyboard that was OK for the XP install and I can get into Bios OK.
I Installed Office 2003 SP3 on my new Windows 7 x64 last week and it seemed to initially run ok. Over the last few days I've had a problem with Outlook where it hangs, seemingly at random. I can't figure out what causes it and it doesn't always happen from the same function. It hangs indefinitely until I force it to close and re-open it. I've tried uninstalling the Windows updates and re-installing the entire package with the same problem. It doesn't generate any specific error message so I'm not sure what to try next.

i just did fresh installation of windows 7 on my mother in laws computer and for some reason when the computer is turned on or needs to restart the computer hangs where it is supposed to be reading from cd drive, i see all lights working but it will not load to windows. if i press f8 to enter boot menu and select the hard drive it starts with out a problem.

After a crash, it then hung at the Starting Windows screen. Assuming repair or reinstall of the OS was needed, I popped in my installation disk. It get so far as the "Setup is Starting" screen before it hung (further emphasized by the sound of the in-use CD/DVD drive ceasing activity noise).I'm completely stumped at this point and have no funds to get myself a replacement laptop, and it's an item in my possession that is sorely needed
View 6 Replies View RelatedIts my office comupter, it worked fine yesterday. when i came in today i just locked up on the start up screen. I ran a smart extended test on the drive it passed. I even purchased a new hard drive and replaced. I put in the install disc and wait for the recovery window, it starts with loading fles then starts windows and hangs up in same spot. I switched out the Ram and did the same thing. dont know what else it would be or to do.
