Closing Opened Folder When Physically Deleted On Desktop
Feb 6, 2012
when i have a folder opened that points to a folder present on my desktop, and i physically delete the folder on the desktop, the folder's window remains opened & goes back to the desktop folder address.
ex:
C:UsersAdministratorDesktopNew folder opened on the deskbar & vm
C:UsersAdministratorDesktopNew folder deleted on the desktop .. .
C:UsersAdministratorDesktop appears as a folder on my deskbar
Wanted behavior as in previous windows versions: C:UsersAdministratorDesktopNew folder should disappear from the deskbar & vm, too.
I'm somewhat confused over correct way to achieve something.I have only just upgraded to Windows 7Previously I had OS on my C drive and 'user' folders on a physically different drive.I have done a little googling .. some results show multiple pages on text on how to do this, another use 'mlink'another using robocopy & whole load of cmd line stuff, another says do it within users profile setting.hat is the simple way of moving the 'users' folder (with the number of sub user folders) to a different drive, and removing the original folders ... i.e. keeping the house clean.Purpose is to keep user data such as my documents etc
I have a folder on my desktop which I used as a temporary location for pictures and videos. Once it was empty I deleted it but every time I open my internet browser it pops up again. I am using Mozilla Firefox and have checked the download settings but this folder is not named in any path that I can see. I also checked WMP but it doesn't appear there either. The only other program I used this folder with was Movavi to convert the video files to MP4 but it's not showing up there either.
I know, the easy solution would be to turn off desktop composition, but that would be like disabling visual styles in windows XP, going back to windows 98 look.for me the most important thing about the desktop composition is that it let me choose colors, if not it is fixed to the green/bluish windows 7 default colores and cant be changed unless desktop compositiion is enabled.but when desktop composition is enabled (i mean, by default, it is enabled) when i move the cursor over the taskbar, over the folders i get a very nice chumbanil view, yeah.. pretty cute. but, how do i know which one is the one i am looking for? of course, there are thumbnails, but come on, they are thumbnail of folders.check the images of what i sayhere i can't see the names, until i go one by onewithout desktop compositionbut here with windows 7 at minimum (desktop composition turned off, with just moving the cursor over the folders in taskbar i get the menu with the names and i go to the one i need, fast and without confusion.is there any way i can have the names with desktop composition ON? or at leas the names offer the thumbnails.
got genuine OEM Win7 Home Premium (64bit) and a Pavilion dv7 laptop. Almost everytime, when I have certain folder opened, explorer.exe starts loading my CPU (13% usually... sometimes it can rise even further !)... explorer loads stays, until I terminate the process via task manager and start it again. It happens ONLY when I open that CERTAIN folder (there are approx. 700 of MP3 files in it). It does NOT happen in any other folders, only in this one. Do you guys have any idea, WHAT can is possibly causing the load ? I have ran several antivirus and antispyware tests, MS Checkdisk as well... nothing changed !
interesting fact 1 : I tried formatting the hard drive and recover the system from scratch... the folder STILL causes explorer load !!
interesting fact 2 : the same happens, when I work with the folder via Total Commander (13% CPU load and in some situations even more !
I have an application that opens a folder using a shell to Explorer. I can close Most apps I shell using Taskkill but not the opened folder. I have tried Openfiles with no luck ( I think it is for networks). I need this to tidy up an application.
The most visible sympton is at the bottom right of the screen where the little icon keyboard is, net to the langage (me "FR" as "French). Well for some reason it starts to blink. And then I can't do things right. The start menu doesn't stay open, it closes automatically. The preview images when you have many windows open from a program close themselves before I can select any. And littme annoying stuff. And sometimes, it's like all the screen is blinking, in Firefox. Other odd behavior : the cursor unfocus from pages while it blinks, if you want to go down on a page, well you have to click again the page to be able to control.Sometimes it's all the time, you can't even scroll to a document or a web page...I'm running windows 7 x64.
I'm running Windows 7 on a Dell Insprion laptop and using dual monitors. The desktop is frozen with no response from either the mouse/keyboard. I can use the startup, internet and other items in the taskbar.
I can connect my local laptop to a remote desktop using Cisco Any Connect VPN on windows 7. I noticed that there were 2 program files folders. After installing a few programs, I noticed they were all going to X86 folder, so I thought this was an install error on the shipping companies part, and deleted the unnumbered program files folder. Is there a way to fix my messup ? will it affect performance ?
Can the C:SYSTEM.SAV folder be deleted? I am unable to find out what it is & what it's used for. It seems to be something specific to HP and/or Compaq. It's about 60MB, 1% of the volume size; maybe shouldn't worry about it.

I deleted a folder where I was storing app downloads. The folder was in my root directory. I think I deleted it within a download manager - not sure. In any case, the download manager keeps popping up (for no reason apparent to me) with a file to download (looks like the latest one I downloaded) and the Folder is the one I deleted. When I look in my root directory, the folder is still there
I have a program called Predator and by mistake I deleted the programs file folder. Now when i go to add or remove programs it will not uninstall. How do I remove it. Because when I try to reinstall it says the software is already on my computer?
I have a good friends Dell computer running Windows 7 and 8G PNY flash drive. She accidentally deleted an entire folder from her flash drive that had her entire semester of MBA class work. Not realizing that she deleted the folder off her flash drive she emptied her trash bin on her computer. The Folder contained two other folders and inside one folder was all her word documents and powerpoint presentations and the other folder contained all her excel files and class assignments. I have tried running a recovery program (Search & Recover - Recovered Erased Files by iolo tech) on the flash drive and the hard drive but have not gotten any results.
I have been looking through my documents and have realised that some of my folders and documents are missing. I don't remember deleting them, but possibly could have done by mistake. They are no longer in my recycle bin, and I don't have a windows backup facility. They are quite important documents, and I'm not sure how to get them back.
Today I accidentally deleted my folder on the desktop of windows-7. The files are not there in the Recycle Bin. There are some .pdf files and .jpg files in the folder which is too important for me. I just copied the folder with files from external source. Now, I don't have that external source from where I can recover or get my files. Which software will work to recover the folder. I tried some recovery software which works for the files. I am not able to find any files. It shows me recover the files which are deleted before a week. But, i am unable to find the files which i deleted today (Shift+Del).

I foolishly stored a lot of files on my desktop. Yesterday when I switched on my computer it started installing windows updates, then the desktop had reset to the original factory settings and half my desktop files had gone. IE had also been upgraded to IE9. I managed to find my files in C>User>desktop and transferred them onto the new desktop setup. Then this morning when I switched it on again the computer had reverted to my original desktop again and the files I moved to the new desktop yesterday are absolutely nowhere. System restore doesn't help,
I am having a major frustration with fonts on my laptop (Windows 7 Home Premium x64),amongst the other usual 64bit issues/compatibility It's new, and I was moving fonts to it from my old laptop (Windows 7 Home Premium x32).I had installed about 6500 fonts and it pretty much ground to a stop on start-up and launching programs causing even the most reliable programs to declare the "Not Responding" status (Even though i have i7/16GB Ram/64-bit)
I have a user who tells me she deleted her Junk Mail folder from Outlook 2007. She has two e-mail profiles and claims it is missing from both. I won't have access to the computer for a day or so, but I wanted to find a solution beforehand.
I assumed it would be as simple as going to Deleted Items and restoring the folder...but from what I've been reading, that isn't the case, and she shouldn't have been able to delete the folder in the first place.
