Whilst trying to join the local homegroup network, I found out the issue was that my WORK laptop was connected to a domain & unable to share files because of being connected to this EX company domain/network.Naively, without first checking consquences, disconnected from the WORK domain & made the computer use for home & renamed it. Upon doing so, was asked to re-boot.On re-booting, the adminstator login password had resorted back to the one when setup originally?? As my normal password was not being accepted. I must add - I NO LONGER WORK FOR SAID COMPANY AND HAVE NO WAY OF ACCQUIRING PASSWORD/NETWORK/DOMAIN ACCESS DETAILS ANYMORE!I then used the windows password unlocker tool (£20 paid) to gain access back to my laptop. Obviously now realising a lot of very important information, emails, all desktop icons & file locations were no longer where they were supposed to be I spent an hour searching everywhere... The hard drive is still saying it has 150gigabyte of use & certain files display more data in 'properties' than is actually displayed in the folder itself. After doing a little research it looks like all my files, emails etc are in this imaginery 'domain' that I am now unable to access at all & no longer have the details to re-join again! A few files are still dotted around where they are supposed to be but a lot no longer accessable. With no access details to re-join this domain, is there any way AT ALL of re-claiming these files?

However when I try join the domain i get the following message:"The following error occurred attempting to join the domain "MYDOMAIN"The specified domain either does not exist or could not be contacted. If I do a nslookup it resolves the domain controller, as well if i watch the traffic I can only see UDP traffic on that IP, however i can still browse the web from it?

I am currently using AMD Turion X2 2.00ghz CPU although it is not very powerful. CPU rating score is 4.9 whereas my GPU has 6.0 score. I have enough graphics card for gaming but the CPU is weak to play it on high fps rate.My laptop isn't that old so I don't want to buy a new one. I just want to replace the CPU with a better one. Is it possible to change the CPU in a computer?
View 3 Replies View RelatedFriend has purchased an hp laptop with Windows 7 Home premium (32 bit).
If I lend him my Windows 7 Ultimate (64 bit) disk can he change to a 64 bit install of Windows 7 Home Premium? Evidently he will need to use the key on the sticker underneath his laptop. We both realise it will need to be a clean/custom install.
I guess I'm asking this,
Do windows 7 and vista share the same approach with disks and keys:
There are two disks: 32 bit and 64 bit.
There are nine major keys available: Home premium (Retail/Upgrade/OEM), Pro (Retail/Upgrade/OEM), Ultimate (Retail/Upgrade/OEM)
Retail allows the transfer of licenses. Upgrade is a 'discount' license for people who have XP or Vista or a lower version of Windows 7. OEM does not allow for transfer of licenses.
I'd be particularly grateful to hear responses from people who have managed this (on windows 7).
I want to change the SSD on my Toshiba Portege Z835 (it claims it has an SSD but the performance says otherwise. which means I will have to change the OS too. So just to confirm this is possible: I get a copy of Win7, get it onto USB, install new SSD, boot from USB and I'm done? Second part of my question is about hardware/drivers. Will most of the features/buttons/hardware still work after running Windows Update for drivers?

View 6 Replies View RelatedI was wondering if it is possible or particularily unadvisable to change my laptop keyboard to one by a different manufacturer? I've recently got a new laptop (Acer Aspire 5742G) and all is grand, except for the fact that I can't stand having a keyboard with a numpad. The arrow keys are too small and the Fn + whatever keys are all in places I don't like. This isn't a big problem or anything, I'm just curious to know if anyone has done it.

I have a Dell Latitude D800 laptop which is some outdated but served me well with vista. The native screen resolution is 1920x1200, and if I understand correctly the nvidia chipset is GeForce FX Go5200.
I don't need to install the native driver if I could only change the resolution to custom since nothing else appears to be not working.
The problem with the natural drivers is this: when I install the nvidia one it says I do not have a compatible chipset, so it leaves me with the D800 video driver. It has only been released for XP and installing it even with changed compatibility mode freezes my screen on startup.
In Vista no drivers were needed I just changed my resolution to 1920x1200 and all was well, what are my options in Windows 7?
