How To Reinstall Win 7 On Laptop To Change From 32 To 64bit ?
Oct 30, 2009
i bought a new laptop (toshiba t130) and as such windows 7 came pre-installed on the laptop and so i have no disk!
when i turned on the laptop for the first time the setup came up asking me to select between 32-bit and 64-bit. i decided that i needed to do some more research on the matter so i cancelled the setup.
however, the next time i turned it on windows 7 automatically setup the 32-bit version!!
how can do i do a clean reinstall of windows so as to change it to 64-bit?? (as i have no disk)
I originally upgraded to windows 7 home premium 64-bit using the 3-pack family upgrade kit to upgrade from windows XP. After a while I realized I needed some of the added features of the Pro version, so I used Windows anytime upgrade to Windows 7 Professional 64-bit. It has been a little while now, and I'm needing to do a re-install (without going into too much depth) due to some software compatibility issues I am having. The trouble is I don't know where to obtain my product key for the upgrade, and I'm concerned if I attempt a reinstall I'll be left with an OS that can't be activated. Also since I did the anytime upgrade, I did not receive an installation DVD.. I do have another Pro version installation DVD I purchased for a separate license (that should work, right?).
So, had to install XP beside Windows 7 64bit... Windows 7 64bit was installed while in BIOS hdd was set as AHCI.To install XP, I've to put it to IDE. Now if I put AHCI i can boot in Windows 7, but not in XP(BSOD), if I put IDE can't boot in Windows 7(BSOD), can in XP. Downloaded AHCI driver for my MB (MSI P55-GD55) and can't install them in XP, says no system requirements. What to do? Is there a way to boot with IDE to windows 7 64bit without reinstall?
i wanted to reinstall my pc ( something's dident feel right on my pc ) so i copy'd most of my needed stuff, after that i insert my disc which i got from buying this pc ( Microsoft windows 7 home premium 64 bit disc).after the first part ( can't remember when u re-install windows u got a few things listed ( first thing was 100%, then second thing went to 60% and then i had a error) something about " u need internet blahblah" try again. So i tried again but then the part that ( i can't seem to fix) started to being a problem.
" $WINDOWS.~BT " this file i can't open, can't delete and also can't chainge acces to this map , but i can rename it ( getting this error when trying to do the above -" foutcode 0x80070091 "
- I renamed the file and tried to reinstal but then i had the error when ' trying to copy temperary files ' the error told me he can't continieu becouse it can't delete the current file about it.
- i tried chkdsk but it only shows i get error, not what i shoud do against it.( also the window to fast to read the 1 line which starts whit ' fault....'
- also tried f2 when setup, i tried safe mode, also tried starting my pc from the discs on so the windows itself+programs wont start before the disc. i can't reinstal, i can't delete that file, the only thing to do is take it to the shop
I have a Gateway laptop that needs to be reinstalled with Win 7. Its an I3 core 64-bit computer and for some reason every time I want to boot off optical drive it wont take me to the installation process...
is it best to uninstall old drivers first then install new hardware then new drivers or would i have to use windows disk to do a repair install after taking off old drivers and new hardware i know there is a "sysprep" tool that should remove hardware dependencies and things but i have no idea what it does/how to use it or if it will leave programs and settings in place without modifying them as im going from a foxconn 45cmx, core e7600 and 3gb ddr3 to an asus 1155 motherboard,i5 2500 and 8gb ddr3?
My motherboard died on me, and so I had to change it together with the processor and RAM as there were no socket 775 motherboards available locally. However, Win 7 blue screens every time on start up, but very briefly, so I can't see the error message.
Win 7 repair then kicks in, but finds nothing wrong, so it goes round and round like that ad infinitum.
All the repair methods I have found require that you work within windows, which is patently stupid if you want to repair because you can't get windows to work - it's a bit like trying to open a box with a tool that's inside it!
I tried a new install, which has backed up my old Windows as Windows.old, and it goes though all the paces, but then refuses to accept the activation code.
I am now stuck with a non functioning PC, and am scared to add anything in the future in case of this type of thing.
Would like to know what the proper way to go about formating hard drive and reinstalling windows 7 all I have is the repair disk, data back up disk & the Image disk i got the dell laptop from bestbuy and geeksquad did the set up well actually 3 weeks ago my motherboard and processor took a crap and it was replaced but i dont have a windows disk and actually had to get a program to track down the cd key but i dont have any dell software installed in here and its missing to many system files to run down. so i fifgured i would just "start over".
Due to my need to connect remotely to my exchange2003 server and windows2003 authentication I am unable to connect from my windows7homePremium 64bit laptop. How to change this to a 32bit version
I am working on a laptop that belongs to a friend of my son. This thing seems wrecked with viruses and spyware. I believe my only course of action to fix this thing is for a clean install of Windows. My question is...
Can i use my Windows 7 Home Upgrade disk to reinstall Windows on this lappy? I have done it many times before with XP and Vista, but was unsure if it can be done with 7 since MS has done some things different to prevent piracy. I do have the 7 Key on the bottom of the notebook. It's just that nobody ships recovery disks with notebooks anymore.
I just received a Toshiba Tecra A11 from work. It's quite an alright computer, but it brings, as usual, the infamous bloatware from the manufacturer. what should I do?
1. Do nothing besides disabling startup programs
2. Uninstall programs
3. Install another Windows 7 version (alias cracked) without all that bloatware
The computer brings a fingerprint scanner and, as I don't like Windows 8, I'm not planning to do the switch.
