Cannot Open Up My Documents
May 2, 2012I am unable to open up anything in My Documents using Windows 7. Have tried Control Panel, right clicking Microsoft Word Sarter and then "chnge" - but this has not helped.

How To Open Documents From Old Computer
May 24, 2011Many of my documents that I copied over to my new computer from my old one (which I still have and runs Vista) were written on Microsoft Works & have the file association WSP . As Win 7 doesn�t come with this older program, short of going back to my old computer & converting them to a program I can download onto both (which would be very time consuming to say the least) is there some way to either convert them to a file association that a program on Win 7 can open or download a program that could open them?

The order would be that the last file would open first, then the remaining files would open in the order they are listed in Explorer.Windows 7 is not like that. Here's what happens.Pick all 42 files, hit enter. Nothing. No error, no warning, just nothing happens.Pick 2 files, hit enter. Opens just like normal.Pick 20 files, nothing.Pick 10 files, works fine.Pick 15 files, works finePick 16 files, nothing.More oddness. When multiple files open, they open in a random order.More more oddness. Close them, then open then again. Random, but in a different random order!My thought on this is that it is just a bug. That the number of files is (16) or (2^4) or (hex f), suggests to me that the programmer didn't allow for numbers large than (hex f). Although that number could mean nothing and is simply a coincidence.

Apr 14, 2012I have a folder in My Documents that doesn't open up (other folders in my computer works fine). I double click on it and it makes that clicking sound and flashes for a sec but nothing opens up. I can only look at what's in the folder by using Word 2007 then open and select all files. I scanned it with AVG and there's no virus. Most of the stuff in there are not downloaded, it's mainly documents which I typed on this computer, and the few things that have been downloaded I have opened before and there never seemed to be a problem until recently. I made a copy of the folder to an external hard drive and funnily that opens up. I tried to delete the original folder in my documents but it says folder in use and won't let me delete it.

Sep 22, 2011They were working then I rebooted the pc today and went to click on computer and nothing happens, the only thing is the little folder icon comes on the taskbar and that's it, it doesn't open.Also all of a sudden my events viewer doesn't work either, get this error, specified query is invalid 15001BTW system restore wasn't on, I guess when I fixed my booting problem it turned it off, the only drives that had restore enabled where my other 2 drives not the one I needed.

Jan 23, 2012I have a small network of six computers. Five of them run XP and I just added a Windows 7 machine. I've got a Microsoft Access 2003 database that all of the computers share that is hosted on one of the XP machines. The Windows 7 machine can access the Access database through the network just fine, as long as no one else is accessing it. However, if someone else on an XP machine on the network is using the file, it won't open on the Windows 7 machine. Doubling clicking the file on Windows 7 gives me the circling blue icon for a second or two, then nothing happens. If the XP user exits the database, then I can open it fine.

Aug 29, 2012I have 2 users defined to my W7 computer, lets say Jack (administrator) and Jill (normal user). Both users have had their "My Documents" moved to a second disk drive E: as "Jack's Documents" and "Jill's Documents".
Recently (I first noticed it on 26th August) both users started to see two "My Documents" folders on the E: drive in Windows Explorer. One contains Jack's files and folders, the other Jill's files and folders. I'm sure (but have no proof) that Jack used to see "My Documents" and "Jill's Documents", and Jill used to see "My Documents" and "Jack's Documents".
I've searched for information about this problem but can only find examples for duplicate "My Documents" folders for a single user.
The Bar At The Top Of My Documents Has Disappeared
Nov 18, 2011When I click on "My Documents" I often then go to the Desktop by clicking to the right of a small window/bar at the top. It then opens up "Desktop", which is just above it in the"family tree". I click on "Desktop" to quickly go to it.

Jul 27, 2011I have recently received a Dell XPS 17 laptop and when I open an internet browser or a document/folder and maximise it I can still see about 1cm of my desktop. I don't know how to explain what is it but the close button (X) and minimise buttons etc arent at the top of the screen, they are 1cm below because the browser etc doesnt fill the screen. When I am playing games it uses the whole screen I was just wondering why it is leaving a gap, it used to fill the whole screen then suddenly started doing this. May 1, 2012I have a friend with the same problem as I found by searching "Mydocuments and local user setting have all disappeared" but when we checked the hidden box, she can see the main folders but all of the files - docs pictures excel files - are gone. The folders all appear empty but she can open them from Recents and the show to be in her previous folders that are now gone. She had several pop ups that was telling her the C drive was corrupt and windows files were missing so I had her unhook the internet and they went away. Her Norton had run out so she was going to uninstall it and reinstall the version that came on CD so she was unprotected for a few days. but when she ran the new Norton and did a scan, all it showed bad were the cookies. We also downloaded Ad-Aware and scanned for spy junk and it showed nothing. The PC is an HP but I don't know more right now. It is only 2 months old. I am going to her house in the morning to see what I can find out but if you, saint19, see this tonight, can you give me any pointers on where to look? Her desktop image went away along with all the shortcuts except Recycle Bin, MS Word and Excel.
