I am trying to modify the attributes of a file (in this case the album title for a group of MP3 files in 1 folder).All I want to do is change one character.W7 (home premium 32bit) blanks out the whole box, and I have to type the all of the text again.

So I was looking at the "File Repository" for this print driver (C:WindowsSystem32DriverStoreFileRepositoryhpcu115u.inf_amd64_neutral_4a9d334b04ff58b2), and it has the same files as another folder that is pointed to under the "Driver" tab in the Print Server Properties dialogue (C:Windowssystem32spoolDRIVERSx643). My questions are the following:
1. What is the purpose of the File Repository folder as compared to the driver folder as listed above?
2. If I am unable to remove the print drivers through Print Management (using admin rights), should I manually delete the corresponding File Repository folder, should I delete the files in the corresponding folder as listed above (C:Windowssystem32spoolDRIVERSx643), neither, or both?
3. Why in the world does it give that message, even after having deleted that printer? Is it a matter of other users on that machine being mapped to that same network printer, or what?
I did check to make sure there are no other services started that use the printer driver.

I have found a file named 'Card_content.xml' in my Nokia Memory Card (Fat Volume). When I try to open it with Notepad, it shows 'Access Denied'. I can not open, rename, copy, move, delete this file. I can see the content of this file using 'DiskInternals Linux Reader'. The Properties Dialog shows that this file has an attribute 'RHAX'. R - Read-only, H - Hidden, A - Archive, But what the 'X' denotes for. Please note that Properties Dialog does not have any column named 'Owner'. I am not able to change its attribute using CMD, CHMOD (coreutils) and other utilities. What the 'X' denotes for? How can I set or edit 'X' attribute of a file?

I have done numerous backups on this machine but I've noticed that the file attribute 'archive bit' (a) is not being reset as it was on Win XP. (NOTE: backups were full backups not incremental or differential. Does Win 7 treat file attribute bits differently than XP? I also have noticed that 7 displays various attribute bits that were not used in XP; where is there a description of all attribute bits?
View 1 Replies View RelatedLike many people out there I'm having problems renaming, deleting, moving, copying, and playing mkv files. If I attempt to do one of the above tasks, windows explorer will crash and I have to restart my computer. I ran a cmd scannow and there indeed was a problem with my cbs log. However, that has since been repaired yet the mkv problem persists. I've also adjusted my viewing options to only show details in the folder, hoping that perhaps it was the thumbnail generator that was to blame. This also did not work.The mkv file itself doesn't appear to be corrupted. I've been able to successfully transfer some files to an external hard drive. I've been able to play these files no problem on my work computer running windows xp.
I have a feeling it's somehow tied to divX. I've attempted to uninstall the program several times using the normal process from the control panel, once with ccleaner, and currently attempting a forced uninstall with a trial version of revo uninstaller pro. None of these has so far worked. Anyone have any bright ideas, save for reinstalling my OS? Also, please keep your suggestions in layman's termsI'm by no stretch well versed in computers.
I recently setup an FTP server using this genius little piece of hardware called CloudFTP. Anyways, I can access my CloudFTP just fine through my smartphone, using a file explorer app w/FTP ability?is there a downloadable Windows 7 file explorer freeware/software app that can do exact the same thing as my Android? Currently, I am only able to access the CloudFTP via Windows through the Google Chrome browser, but the interface is.... dismal, to say the least.I like the built-in Windows 7 explorer just fine, but I'm not sure I can access my FTP server using it.
View 9 Replies View RelatedThe contents of several file and folders has gone missing. This includes the "My Pictures" library (my biggest concern) and a few others. Like a couple random Games, Steam, just odd seemingly random folders. This may have been caused by some recent changes, which I will get into- but I am pretty close to just saying several thousand pictures are just...gone.Secondary Problem: I recently had a pretty scary ordeal with the user profiles on my machine. When attempting to login, it would state that the User settings had been altered and would not let me log in. That has been taken care of now, but I feel the two problems are connected, and this is why:Several days ago I was attempting to install a Logitech Web Camera onto my Windows 7 X86 OS. Logitech does not provide drivers for this OS or support the installation, but I have in fact been able to install it in the past with some clever workarounds. While attempting to re-create the troublesome install I had used in the past I caused the Profile problem.The Logitech cam Drivers (Model V-uu22 Drivers for Vista if that is important) touch many parts of the machine they are installed on. There is a sub-folder that is installed in the "My Pictures" folder for storing your webcam snapshots, then a folder in the "Movies" library for a similar function. There is also a sub folder that is placed in the user profile area that stores your user information (I assume) So, while installing these drivers and trying to get them to work again my machine froze up mid-install and demanded a reboot. Upon reboot the user profile would not let me login, then when I rebooted once more to attempt to fix it, the boot file was destroyed. So, in goes the recovery disc, boot from CD and fixed the boot.ini file. Finally gain access to the windows logon and still the problem remains. It took hours to figure this whole thing out. booted into safe mode, deleted the improper SID (SP?) for the users that had somehow been created and ended up just having to use a restore point to undo all the changes. Long story short, I got it working and now the file contents are all wonky.
Now, seeing as I used a restore point to fix the issues, I don't see how the logitech install could have been the culprit, but all of my pictures are gone. I have searched the machine, used a file recovery service, looked all over and now I am coming here.Steps taken to find pictures: File recovery, Showing hidden files, searching all files, Ensuring that the user profiles had not been damaged, lots of google searches, you name it.I did notice, however, that there were hidden files and folders on both my drives that are labeled "pictures", "movies" etc. But I cannot access them. I am on an administrator account, I attempted to change the file permissions using the properties interface of the folders and do not have access, even tried the takedown command on them, but I am not using FAT. I simply have no idea what to do now.
Another thing of note: I use my XBOX 360 to wireless stream content from my machine to the Televisions in my home. I notice that the pictures all made it to the Console, and are viewable- but it seems as if the XBOX has created another User profile that I have no access to and moved the items in question there.All in all this has been very perplexing, and I know the pictures are there, somewhere, and have not been deleted- I just have trouble wrapping my head around what user profile they may be in and how to gain access to that folder.
Specs: MS Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit SP1, AMD Athlon II X2 245 Regor 45nm Technology, Mobo: ASRock M3A770DE, AMD Radeon HD 6800.
I also have Hijackthis reports and have run full anti-virus and anti spyware on the machine several times.
How can I quickly delete the content.ie5 folder? I've tried just deleting the folders(8) within the file but it takes forever and freezes up (right clicking & deleting). I tried through cmd prompt, but it still takes a long time. Is there a cmd prompt that'll just delete the file as a whole...I think I used something like /d and tried to do an individual folder and it took a while and I gave up...this was about 2 months ago. I saw a new cmd command rmdir /s...I don't know know if it's quicker or not. Is there a program I can download. And I right clicked and clicked on properties to see how big the file is and it's 85gb. I have screenshots and need a quick solution. It takes forever to do a virus scan, because it keeps getting hung up in the content.ie5 folder. And a couple of months ago...I found a virus/adware in those folders.

Is there a possible way to recover this? I have 8 database files, which all containing almost the same content.
I think the problem is because i have stored the database file in Google Drive, and i did not activate the synchronizing option in Sticky Notes 7. So when i was editing on my workstation computer, and came home to my laptop. The content was still the same. To day, when i was going to my workstation computer, it is the same content as my laptop. The content which I've been written last week is totally gone!
I've tried in the recycle bin function in Sticky Notes 7, but there was nothing. I know I've done some stupid things. Cause i didn't active the sync.
Also, when i want new content in my note, i just delete the existing content, and add some new. I'm not saving the database files in weeks, or months or so on (to keep control over the files) I will do that in the future!

Have a friend with a new Toshiba Core i5 on which he has MS Office 2003 Professional fully installed, including PowerPoint. Three weeks ago, he complained that he could not open .pps files attached to e-mails, so he brought the computer to me. I opened the file associations subroutine, found .pps in the list of extensions, and ultimately (tha'ts another whole story) got MS PowerPoint registered as the default program to open such files.Today he claimed he got another e-mail with a .pps attachment, and could not open it, so brought the computer to me again. I don't know why he wasn't able to open it, because I called up the e-mail, clicked the .pps attachment and it opened perfectly. However, I opened the /Default Programs/Set Associations list and scrolled down to see what the .pps entry said was the current default.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI used to be able to open replays of a certain game (Warcraft 3) just by simply double clicking on them. I reinstalled Windows 7 2weeks ago, along with the game. Now when I double click them, it doesnt know what program to use --> I go through the standard "open with" and find my war3.exe. Now when I go to double click the replay file, it openes warcraft3 not the replay itself (like it used to, and like how I want it).
Ive done alot of digging around and trying to find how to fix it, but Im still unable to fix this. What I've found out that I basically need the replay files (.w3g) to open in E:Program filesWarcraft IIIwar3.exe -loadfile "%1"
The problem is, that with windows7 I am unable to find the place where I can insert this, all I was able to find was ways for XP/Vista but they are different from Windows 7.
On XP there is a facility to add programs to a file type - you can add more than one program, and each one has a name (which appears in the pulldown list), and a program location, which can have options added to it, e.g. an html file could have a browse function, and an edit function (I want to use SeaMonkey with a -compose option, assuming I can do this). I don't want to have to pick one program as the default unless the other one is easily accessible. I'm sure Windows 7 wouldn't kill a very useful XP facility... would they?!

I've scanned it with MSE and it's clean and virus-free.I want to send it to our daughter, using my Hotmail account, as a normal attachment to a normal email msg. But Hotmail blocks it completely since it's an executable file type.So I tried to just rename a copy of it on my hard drive, first, to *.txt. But when I select the *.exe filename and then click Rename, I can't seem to get access to the extension part of the current file name; the exe after the dot. So is there a way I can change the file type in windows from "application" to a type Hotmail so windows won't block as an email attachment? Then tell the recipient to change it back to *.exe on her end?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a document that has acquired a .lnk extension and shows a Shortcut type file and I cannot open.I was suggested to go to Sart > Control Panel > Programs > Default Programs > Associate a file type or protrocol with a program > Set Assocations I did that and chose Word to open the document. The result was that almost all programs including IE and Systems Tool tried to open with Word.I had to run a System Restore from the Control Panel and all is fine now. However, can someone give me an idea how the document got the .lnk extension and Shortcut type? Also, is there a solution to this being that the above didn't work?I still cannot open the document and the program associated with .lnk reverted to unknown application.

Each of the sub-folders have in them videos as well as .nfo files for displaying data awesomeness in the likes of XBMC. However, I do not like the way it makes my folders look when I browse to them in explorer.
Is there a way to hide all my *.nfo files only in the Video folder and subfolders?
I've accidently set another .cnf filetype to be known, as well. It's just so aggravating to see them have an icon as if they're good to open..how can I make them to open with nothing once again..?
