It activated fine. had a few problem with the install. could not install Windows 7 usb dvd tool could not install Office 2010. Did get NOD 32 install and all the windows updates. I figured there was aglitch in the install. I formated and reinstalled windows 7 from a usb drive i created on another computer. that i just installed the windows 7 usb dvd tool on. windows loaded fine, so first thing i tried to install the windows 7 usb dvd tool would not install. so formated and started again. All went well windows 7 activated fine. tried to install the windows 7 usb dvd tool again no joy. so I went ahead and installed all the updates. NOD 32. windows office all went well. tried again to install the Win 7 usb dvd tool no joy. I have googled the problem there is no info out there on this problem. I searched the problem in this forum nothing. I had this tool running on the original install before i started this whole thing and it worked fine. Any suggestion would be great! Nothing invested but time!

View 2 Replies View RelatedI am running windows 7 for long time and I havent came accross this yet , so this is what happend in shorter version, I was using my computer when the screen just went black. I just tought to myself its probably something wrong with my memory so i ran the Memory Diagnostic Tool ,I picked the first choice that it recommended "Save work and restart the system". The computer restarted, and the tool started to work after 15-20 minutes it was nearly done 90 somthing , i just went down stairs to get a drink and when i came backed upstairs i realised that the scanning is at 8% again , I tought maybe thats how it works , scans 2-3 times , i lefted the computer working over the night when i waken up the tool was still working , went to work , came backed and the tool was still working , i just said to myself this has to be wrong , i unpluged the pc left it over the night. Turned it on , the diagnostic tool started itself again , The scan was neraly over when just again i realised that this think goes in infinity. I pressed the " Esc" button as it said to finish but when i press the button the scan just resets and goes from 0% again, It doesnt want to let me run safe mode or anything else , only go to bios set up.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI tried searching for this, but all the terms are so generic I got billions of hits. There is a shortcut.I guess it's "pinned" to the taskbar (is it a toolbar?). I could swear when I first installed Windows 7 that it was setup to be a shortcut to the "computer". However, it now always opens up to the "libraries". I even deleted (unpinned) it and tried pinning a new shortcut so it would open up to my "computer", but it still opens up to the "library". I have no use for "libraries". How do I fix this?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI've never quote seen this problem, but I'm trying to burn the ISO for Windows 7 with the Microsoft download tool, and it can't find the dvd drive. Unfortunately the tool does not give you the option to search for it.
The only thing I can see that might be it is in Device Manager it shows up as a CD-ROM. Yet the drive functions and burns fine. I just upgraded to latest firmware. Drive is Asus DRW-1814BLT.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI tried to run Windows Network Diagnostics and an error occurred. In the details it said the diagnostic file was 'restricted'.I searched around for answers and found a suggestion to run 'sfc/scannow' in an elevated command prompt. The file checker reported no 'integrity violations' but the Windows Network Diagnostics tool suddenly worked! (in the 2 year life of my Sony Vaio I don't recall it ever working before). The problem: when I next turn on my computer after it has been shut down, the Windows Network Diagnostics tool has stopped working again - unless I run 'sfc/scannow' - then it runs fine. View 1 Replies View RelatedAny attempt to download and install this tool results in " This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Please install a program or, if one is installed, create an association in the Default Programs control panel."
I do not get this error with any other program I attempt to run, or download and install. I need to create a bootable usb drive or dvd to do a upgrade repair of my 7 installation. My original windows 7 DVD does not contain SP1. I have downloaded the SP1 iso and just need this too to work.
My Windows Update is failing. For whatever reason, my Vaio cannot install Windows 7 SP1. The update fails and it returns variations of unknown error or errors whose numbers are nowhere to be found when I search. (I've tried it 7 times, got 5 5 error numbers and 2 unknown errors.).Right now, I'm following the troubleshooting steps at microsoft.com. It had me run the Windows Update troubleshooter, which claimed to make changes so the update would install. It didn't install.
The site claims that it could take "several minutes" and to not close the installer "even if the progress bar appears to stop, don't cancel the installation." Fine, I haven't. But the progress bar hasn't moved. As in, there's no green in the bar at all. It has been running for over two hours. I know I got the right file; I checked my Windows 7 Version before I downloaded.
It's just hanging at "Installing Hotfix for Windows (KB947821) (update 1 of 1)" How long do I wait? Have any of you encountered this? What do I do nextI'm technically adept enough to follow directions - but that's where my computer expertise ends. When I searched the forums (maybe I didn't search well enough?) I didn't find this problem, but others mentioning similar issues with the SP1 update and other people successfully running the updater.
I have dell desktop inspiron 580, i5, 4 gb ram and 500 gb hard disk and my permanent problem is, inspite of changing hard disk, mother board and ram, the computer freezes at ms logo level and does not ever go further. Then the ceremonial tapping of F8 and hitting 'start up windows normally' 4/5 times (sometimes more) after a bit of suspense, suddenly it gets into the welcome sign and goes on. How long can I continue like this? My manufacturers are most willing to change the parts under my present warranty, but I do not think that is the permanent solution for this. I have run the 'win 7 recovery media' disk given to me many times to go back to the factory set up, then installed the McAfee, Skype and Adobe flash player which are required for my use as usual that is all.
Then as usual the reminder for dell, java and McAfee updates come up, I click it to give permission that is all. Even after the McAfee download (it is asking for restarting the computer) it never restarts for my click and freezes at the ms logo level, as if it loves the logo very much and is attached to it permanently. Again start tapping F8 and by chance I get the booting just in case. All partitions in my computer are totally empty and in C only it is showing 93.1 gb free out of 117 gb. I have only the preloaded factory set up only. I am even afraid of downloading movie downloading software of Bittorrent although widely recommended.
I am 70 year old, non technical, using my computer for movies online streaming (no downloading), email and skype viewing with my contacts only. I always delete address bars before shutting down, never click sites asking for mail id or pass words.
I read a lot of answers in the website (all subsequent letters/answers are contradicting the prior ones) and nothing seems to effective (some I have tried). The start up booting I think is a universal problem and win 7 64 bit has no breakthrough method for this.If I use the full hard disk like a software professional, would it be different or worse!
FireFox 7, Windows 7..I have made a toolbar button that allows me call up various programs directly from FF using these instructions: http:[url]..... Basically, the button contains the shortcut pathways to each program. The button recognizes a folder in Windows Explorer into which are placed the shortcuts to the desired programs. Everything works just fine except that apps from Windows don't(viz., Snipping Tool and Windows Defender.)When they are selected, get an error message that the file can't be found.I'm thinking that although I believe that I have the right pathway (clicking on these files within the button's folder does call them up),I probably don't. By the way, I'd also like to add Windows Explorer, but don't know its shortcut pathway.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have had the generic.win virus on my computer for a while now due to my anti virus program not being able to remove it. It has been causing internet browsing issues specifically with google and other search engines. However I believe that the virus has corrupted my "Windows repair tool" that is required to reformat my system. I start my computer and hold F8 to bring up the menu and select the repair computer option and it brings me to the menu where I can either "start windows normally" or run system repair tool.
When I try to run the system repair tool I know it is supposed to bring me to a menu to select language and what not and ultimately restore my computer. Unfortunately it just returns to the normal boot up and repair option over and over upon selecting the option. I just want a virus free computer. My system is a dell inspirion running 64 bit windows 7. I have backed up all the files.
