View 2 Replies View RelatedI sorted my desktop, and put the desktop shortcuts (Microsof Word, Excel, outlook etc...), onto task bar (next to start button) however I have come back to PC and they have all seemingly have converted to Microsoft word. When I open start menu, all my recent programs have again converted to word.When I have opened any of these a word document opens, a load of gobbildygook, as well as can not open in dos mode.I have managed to cercumnavigate word and excel, by opening one of my exixting files starting a new document and saving this to desktop, but can only do this with paint, word, and excel.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI am building a new computer with 1TB of HDD. At first when I started to install an OS, a system volume was created automatically of 100MB size. Then I created another 200GB partition as C to install Windows 7 and 2 other partitions of 250GB. I wasn't allowed to create another one partition. After I finished windows installation, I tried to create partition in unallocated space using > New simple volume. The sytem warned me of dynamic volumes > accept it. Then eventually all 4 volumes were converted to dynamic in disk management window.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI had some partitions, as follows.
||SYSTEM RESERVED||WINDOWS 7||SHARED DATA||WINDOWS 8||
Next, I shrank the Windows 8 volume and made a new volume. My plan was going to be to clone the Windows 8 volume to the new volume, so I could add more storage space to my shared data partition. The problem is this: creating the extra volume converted my whole HDD to dynamic. That said, my Windows 8 boot was lost immediately. So, I just deleted the Windows 8 partition and the new one and merged all that extra space to my data partition. Now, will this mess with my Windows 7 boot at all? I'm scared to restart my computer. All of my partitions (including my Windows 7 one) are just simple volumes now.
I wanted to open a games downloaded through internet, but the game was not getting opened so i opened it with vlc media player, but all my other programs including microsoft office and windows getting started also got changed to vlc media player, now how to change all the programs to their original programs.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI was setting up a Win7 new build with an Asus P8B75-V and an SSD. Although I previously have done clean installs with UEFI motherboards and SSDs, this time the install DVD created a GPT volume on the boot disk (much to my surprise and which I discovered opnly after loading all the apps, moving the email, etc, etc.).
Knowing a lot more about basic MBR volumes (and how to fix problems), I would like to convert the GPT to a basic volume. I have Acronis DiskDIrector 11 which can convert the GPT to MBR, but when I tried that, it rendered the disk unbootable. (The conversion resulted in a 124MB unallocated space, followed by a 100MB FAT32 volume (!?!?!), and then the rest of the drive as NTFS.)
Is there a way to convert a boot disk from GPT to basic and have it be bootable? Is there anything that can be done with the converted HD to make it bootable?
I am running Win 7 andsomehow all of my desktop icons have converted to microsoft word. In fact all of the software in Programs have been hyjacked.Now I can right click on the desktop and selest "open with" then click on any of the choices available in the dropbox and this will change all of the icons. But still unable to open.The interesting thing is my wife (as another user) has not been affected by this at all. Business is good for her side of the computer.
View 2 Replies View Relatedwell scenario is I got my new dell 15r laptop with windows 7 basic loaded yesterday.. so backed it up and wanted to put my old PC's windows 7 ultimate version on it. I installed it, while installation it allowed to have only 4 partitions.it already had 2 partitions1) Recovery - 15gb2) something i forgot ... some 40MBso i made a partition of 125GB for OSand rest of unallocated space ie some 660gb could not be allocated in more than one partition so i let it be unallocatedso after installtion got completed and OS started i went in disk management and tried to make that unallocated space of 660GB in 2-3 partitions.but it converted all my previous partitions also to dynamic. even recovery partitions.ow do i go back to basic partitions?? particularly about that recovery partition and my C: (OS partition) ??
View 7 Replies View RelatedI'm just installed windows 7 on my 2009 imac through bootcamp. However there are some problems. Ive noticed when i try to play something on windows media player it will tell me that my computer is running low on memory and to close some windows. Also games run poorly if at all. I suspect its a driver issue but have gone through all the auto updates etc.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI am running into this issue of having complete access to one PC running windows 7 from another one that is also running windows 7. One of the PC's is a windows 7 pro 32 bit and the other is window 7 ultimate 64 bit. I have had them setup with public and dedicated folder sharing. But from time to time I find that a file I want to get off one or the other was not saved to a shared folder. I have been looking for a way to allow complete access from one PC to other one (going both directions). I use 2 PC all the times and it really depends on where I am in the house as to what one I am using as one is laptop and the other is a desktop. They are both on the same network. It is just one of the strange things that I have not been able to find a way to get complete file access without the use of software like Teamviewer or others like it.What I would like to do it just go to the network location in the windows explore to get the files I want from the other PC.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI wanted to create a new partition to try out linux. So I decided to shrink E: by 20 GB. I then formatted the free space into a new drive by right clicking and creating new simple volume. I was warned that the drive would be made "simple", but not knowing the implications, I went ahead with the procedure. Now on rebooting, windows won't load. I had made a repair disc, so was able to use it to check for any start up errors. It reported none. Moreover I used "diskpart" through cmd to find volume c: is dynamic.

As I shutdown/restart my laptop, I notice it switches to a secondary desktop that has been running programs.A good example would be trying to open my Task Manager, I can Ctrl-Alt-Del and it will allow me to open Task Manager - however when I click on Task Manager, it opens on the Desktop running in the background. I can't even access the Desktop in the background, it only shows up as I'm shutting down - closing programs that I tried opening awhile ago.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI am trying to setup win xp in a partition I've set up in my new win 7 computer. Creating the partition was a snap. I don't seem to be able to run setup though for XP. I have the original disc, but it won't allow me to click on the setup option. I assume it see's the Win 7 OS and grays it out. I tried copying the disc to the partition, so I could launch from there, but I get the same response. What am I missing, or what do I need to do differently to make this work. I'm not sure if I can make this a dual launch boot option since Win 7 is already in place. Is it necessary to reboot into XP, as opposed to run it (concurrently) in its own partition?
I attempted to boot the system from the disc, but got the blue screen of death for my efforts.

View 1 Replies View RelatedMy laptop won't shut down- I realized I'd be hibernating it since the updates and went to shut it down and it's just on the blue screen saying it's shutting down forever and I have to manually push the button. When I turn it back on it doesn't give me the option for a safe mode start-so I assume it shut down ok, but in addition my laptop is running SUPER DUPER slow.? I ran malwarebites and nothing, my McAfee has been acting up as well so not sure if there's a virus issue or if it's the update.
