I just installed the MS Office 2010. I cant open docx. files ...no error no mesage box...nothing happens. It simply refuses to open.Also, the doc files open as word pad..with some increpted text in the first page followed by normal unformatted text..
Our clients are Windows 7, 64bit, with IE9. We have a SharePoint 2007 farm (Windows 2003 Servers) and we would like to store EML files inside Document Libraries. When a user clicks on an EML file we would like to open the file in Outlook 2010. We have set the file association to open the EML files through Outlook in Windows but the files when a user clicks on an eml file are opened through IE9.
I have a new Dell Inspiron 14Z running windows 7 pro 64bit and i'm using Microsoft office 2010. I'm trying to retrieve archived emails that i backed up on an external hard drive from a previous computer, the files are .pst which is an outlook format but i keep on getting an error message saying the file is not an Outlook data file (.pst). i dont have any other way to retrieve these emails since they were deleted from the server and its about 1.5 years of work emails. Not sure what to do? should i move the files from the external driver to a different location on the computer and open them, or are they corrupted and need to be fixed?
I now have a new problem, before I managed to open 2007 files by opening Office 2010 and then from inside the application choosing to open a file. The problem I have though is if I just try to open an Office 2007 file then I can't open it, and I can't change the default program to open it. How do you get Office 2010 to open all the Office 2007 files such as word, excel etc?
whenever I open docx file there is hidden file ~$name of file.docx created. which type of file is that? Is it in virus, maleware. for example If I open house.docx file then ~$house.docx file created which is hidden form. I had saw this file when i select show all hidden file option. when i try to open ~$house.docx file it show message the file is corrupted and cannot be open.
i am running windows 7 64 bit i have microsoft office 2010 minus outlook, so i have just bought outlook 2010, installed it,but every time i try to open now i get a pop up saying the server is unavailable?
I'm running Windows 7 Professional 64-bit and Microsoft Home and Office 2010. Everything was working fine yesterday, but when I came back to work today and attempted to open Outlook 2010, I instantly received a message saying: "Outlook failed to launch in safe mode. Do you want to start repair?" If you try to open it again, it opens a second process of OUTLOOK.EXE*32 in the Task Manager. Here is what I've already tried to do while troubleshooting:
- Restarted the computer - Performed a MS Office Repair, it completed, rebooted (Did this twice) - Uninstalled MS Office 2010, rebooted, reinstalled it, rebooted, but same problem occurred - Verified that the other Office programs work (Word, Excel, etc) - Tried to run "outlook.exe /resetnavpane"
I'm currently stumped at the moment. I cannot even access the profiles through Control Panel > Mail.
I cannot open Outlook 2010. I get the following message: UsersUserAppDataLocalMicrosoftOutlookOutlook.ost is not an outlook data file (.ost) What does this mean? How can it be corrected
Running Office 2010 and when in excel the File tab at the top will not let me click on it to save the document or print. I have to type ctrl P to get to that screen. Also in Outlook I can't click on the print tab now.

The last system change I made to Excel was to be able to open files as an Administrator. I managed to do that but I don't know how to reverse this. So why am I concerned? Ever since I did this I have not been able to open the specific file involved with the open-as-admin. After several attempts, I did get an error indicating that the file caused serious errors the last time is was opened.
I'm running Windows 7 Home 64-bit with Office & Outlook 2010. I have automatic updates activated and am using the Windows firewall. AV products are McAfee, Spyware Doctor, and MS Security Essentials.The problem is that, when I click on a link in Outlook, the link doesn't open the browser. There is no error message, just the scrolling color bar that is supposed to indicate something is happening.I've tried waiting several minutes to see if an error message would come up, but haven't seen one yet. Eventually, I shut down Outlook and reboot the system.Upon reboot, when I go back into Outlook and click on the same link, it works every time. My company recently installed Windows 7 and Office 2010. Every time I try to open a excel file, via a link on our Intranet it asks for credentials.I ruled out IE, firewall, and the document. I narrowed it down to something in Excel except i can't find it. I have been using Office 2007 and have just purchased Office 2010. Installed it today and all seemed to install Ok except when I went to open Outlook I received the message: "Cannot start Microsoft Outlook. Cannot open the Outlook window. The item may be damaged" There are then buttons for "Repair Tool" or "Cancel" In "Repair Tool", a box then comes up asking: "Enter the name of the file you want to scan" Where do I find this? Should I delete this new installation and start again? If I do, will I loose all my e-mail files including Address Book?

I am running Windows 7 Ultimate (64 bit) with Service Pack 1 and Office 2010 Professional (32 bit). Before installing Windows 7 and Office 2010, I formatted my hard drive and did a clean install. I am having an issue with previewing JPG files within Outlook 2010 -- when I try to preview JPG files I get the following error message: �this file cannot be previewed because there is no previewer installed for it�. Of course if I double-click the JPG attachment, it instantly opens in Windows Photo Viewer. I can preview ALL other types of attachments within Outlook, just not JPG files. My wife has Windows 7 home premium x64 on her laptop and is using Word 2007. The problem she is having is she will open a word file, change it up, save it, then re-open it later and its the old file not the new one. Where as I can open the edited file on my desktop running the same OS but with Word 2010 and the file that opens for me is the newest version.
Twice in as many weeks I have had a machine come to me missing the Outlook 2010 pst file needed to run. I have run GetDataBack for NTFS on both and recovered a string of pst files that look to be the appropriate size but I have had to run scanpst on them to get Outlook to use the files. Only a small percentage of the files can be repaired and of the repaired files only a small amount of email (messages) information is actually returned to Outlook. Is this the result of some type of new and very malicious infection?
Im having a problem with opening files I use to open with two programs. One is mkv, vob and divx files with homecinema. And snes roms with an emulator. Basically win 7 would let me select the program and it would show up on the list of programs to use. I would select always use and I'm done. But I moved the folders containing the files to a different folder and now my two programs I use will not show up in the open with list. I now have to go to the program itself and search for the files. Its a pain because I could click on the files and get right to them.
Is is possible to either delete or hide the "search folders" and "deleted iems" folders that appear in each pst file created?
We use individual pst files to file our emails per current job. But the folders above take up a lot of visual space in the toolbaro it would be preffered to hide or delete them.
We do not use either to "file" emails so the compact now option in the data file managment dialog box does not really apply since I believe this is really a benefit when the file is archived.
I'm the net admin for a small network. One of my users has a problem that has just started today, apparently. When emailed a link to a file on the internal network, from another user on this same network, clicking on the link simply gives an error about it not being allowed. (This operation has been cancelled due to restrictions in effect on this computer. contact your system administrator.)
All users are admins on their own local boxes. This user could perform this function prior to today. There is no problem with the structure of the link, nor with security for the file in question. (I first verified that the user has access to the file, and he does, he can navigate via Windows Explorer to the location, open the file, even has write access to that location)
Even when creating an email, and not using a masked link, but a full UNC path, the 'Crtl click' to go to the location results in the same error.
I tried removing spaces from the file name, same error. I tried typing out a link to a share (not a file), one that has no spaces and I know he has access to, same error.
This represents a significant problem. My users need to be able to send links to internal locations and files, and not attachments (for multiple reasons).
I downloaded/installed Visual C++ 2010 Express and the service pack. I'm using my "D" drive as a folder to hold my movies and any files I need to backup. I checked the drive this morning to add some folders and I have two files that werent there before. Both are named "VS_EXPBSLN_x64_enu", one is a winzip file and the other is a Windows installer package.
