Dec 4, 2012I built a new PC and installed Windows 7. My keyboard is working just fine but my usb mouse doesnt work at all. Not sure how to go about fixing this using the keyboard alone.

Built In Mouse Conflicts With External Mouse
Sep 18, 2011I probably spilled some coffee on the keyboard and now I can not inactivate the mouse pad in favor of the external mouse. The only way I can eliminate the conflict is to uninstall the mouse pad. That works fine but every time I reboot for something I have to uninstall it again. As you know rebooting is common and therefore I have to reboot twice for every time I have to reboot. Anyone with a solution to this problem? This is a HP laptop. The mouse automatically installs everytime I have to reboot. I do not shut down normaly.

Back in XP, you could enable this with Tweak UI, which called it X-mouse.
It was great, i didn't have to click on a window to work in it.

OPTION #1
As this article points out, you can switch windows by hovering if you enable it through:
Control Panel> Ease of Access> Change How Your Mouse Works
scroll down, check box "Activate a window by hovering over it with the mouse"
this method raises windows to the front when you hover over them.

For a true X-mouse experience, you could use this third party software TXMouse:

if you are familiar with Linux x-mouse behaviour, you might appreciate its other functions.
OPTION #3
If you don't need those extra functions, you can make a couple swift changes in the registry and achieve the same effect:
Step #1:
Open regedit, go to HKEY_CURRENT_USERControl PanelDesktop
Edit UserPreferenceMask value to be 9F 3E 07 80 12 00 00 00
[You should only have to modify the first pair]
Step #2:
Also in HKEY_CURRENT_USERControl PanelDesktop
Edit ActiveWndTrkTimeout, change 'Base' to Decimal and put in 150 as the 'Value Data'
[this value is time in milliseconds that it takes for the focus to change.
to avoid some issues with the taskbar I recommended using a value like 150 or so,
but if you'd like to have a different delay before the window loses focus, set it to whatever you like.]

Log off and log back in

this results in windows being active (but not being raised) when you hover over them.
Mouse And Keyboard Take Ages To Become Active At Startup?
May 21, 2012I have been having this problem for a while now, never managed to sort it. Basically when I start my computer using the keyboard in BIOS for f12 and think like that are fine but the second I get into windows login screen I cant type or use the mouse for a good 10-15 seconds which is a right pain. Anyone know why this would be happening? Or anything I can test to see what the problem is. (Mouse and keyboard work fine on other computers)

Aug 16, 2010My netbook, running windows 7 starter, no longer allows me to right click. Not in programs, not in folders, not on the desktop. I was using a USB mouse (which I tested on another mechine, the right click works fine there, so its not the mouse). After this problem started I tried a second usb mouse and the right-click on the built-in touch pad mouse. None of them worked. I have tried rebooting, I tried updating the drivers on my USB mouse. I havn't tried a system restor, hoping someone might know a fix that avoids that route.

Sep 19, 2012Lately I have been having an annoying problem with my wireless mouse. For some reason the pointer will lag, and be very sluggish and jumpy. I've had this mouse on this computer for about a year and I've had no problem. Out of nowhere this problem is happening. I've tried re installing drivers with no luck. I tried uninstalling intellipoint and re-installing it, but when I tried I got the BSOD, and then it completely disabled my mouse and keyboard so I had to use wired peripherals to go in to safe mode and do a system restore. Now everything is working again, except my mouse is still jumpy.

i simply turned on the option to reconnect when the connection goes down, every 10 seconds in this case and i make it so it does NOT have to ask for the phone number. It may have something to do with avast antivirus because thats the image thats listed next to the files in those drives. Apr 11, 2012I have tried to install Plex Server which during install called for Bonjour to be installed. When I accepted it tried to install Bonjour but failed. I have no idea why. I then tried to install the newest Version of I tunes because I thought it comes with Bonjour. Now Itunes fails with "the installer encountered errors before iTunes could be configured"I have tried to clear out the %Appdata% Temp directory and searched the registry for Apple and Bonjour and couldn't find any entries. When I look at the error Log that is created by the iTunes installer it says it errored out because of Installer Error 1618 which obviously means "Another installation is already in progress. Complete that installation before proceeding with this install". Does anyone know how I could find that installer process and terminate it so I could install Bonjour or Itunes. I am out of luck of finding anything on the web.
