Extremely Slow Browsing And Downloading When Connected To Public WiFis?
Mar 10, 2012Recently I've been experiencing some painfully slow internet browsing and downloading speeds on my Sony Vaio VPCSE, it's basically not possible to use internet because of this. These problems first occurred about a week ago and came from nowhere. So far I've tried to connect to three different public WiFis and it seems like there's something wrong with the network card or internet settings on my computer as these problems show up regardless of wifi. I have been browsing the web for a solution to this and tried quite a few different things in order to get it fixed but so far nothing has helped.

Jan 18, 2012I have a D-Link Dir655 connected to a DSL-526B ADSL2 modem. The pair are bridged.This configuration has been running fine for a year.4 days ago I reinstalled windows 7 x64. Now, when I download torrents the connection drops after 15 - 30 minutes, and comes back up 1 - 3 minutes later. When the connection drops it takes the modem connection down; every device connected to the internet drops.When I had reinstalled I upgraded all my programs to the latest versions, but I have since rolled them back to the versions being used prior to reinstalling.The download program is call FreeDownload Manager. It includes a bit torrent client. This have never exhibited any problems before.I also use Malwarebytes with realtime protection, and this blocks various sites. This is typical behaviour, and again has never been a problem.
This time when I resinstalled, I uninstalled WIndows Tablet components, Windows Search and disabled the Program Compatability Service, after reading sites like BlackViper. I have since reinstalled and re-enabled all these features.I also turn of Remote DIfferential Compression, but again, that's been off for many months.

Jun 29, 2011I have just upgraded to Win 7 Ultimate x64, I had no problems installing Win 7 (fresh Install) The computer is a I5 2500k, Asus P8P67 m/b, GTX 560ti GPU, 8g ram, OCZ 120gb ssd, I haven't connected the 2 tb storage just yet, Not sure if you need that info or not.The Problems seems to be that the Browsers are very slow or may not even load a page. I loaded Utorrent to see if the connection was dropping in and out but while downloading it stays at a steady rate. Which would rule out the Connection to the internet I would assume.
1. I have turned of anti virus still the same.
2, I have turned of firewall and still the same
3. shot myself and it still the same
4. turned of Microsoft Security Essentials still the same
5. Also done a fresh install of windows just to make sure
6. Was connected to a server, but i have bypassed that, Now connected straight to the modem/router.

Jun 16, 2011Have 4 HDDs mounted in case. 3 of them are fine. The WDC W20EADS tests at an average write speed of 1MB/s, read is 80MB/s. Every now and then it comes right and the write speed is also around 80MB/s.

Mar 19, 2012My desk top used to be what I considered very fast and now same computer alot slower.If it is comming out of an idle mode it will take at least 3 minutes to load a web page. The hard drive is working very hard, it is always running and the light blinking sometimes when not even being used.After being used for 5 min. or so the web pages do load faster but not as fast as they should.Sometimes I get a I.E. not responding message. It's almost like the hard drive is checking something or doing some other work at the same time.I have to the best of my ability cleared out old files and cleaned up what I can. The hard drive is maybe 25% full.

I am running Kaspersky anti viris and have run the scan more than once, it says no problems.
Slow USB Write - Fast Read
Jan 8, 2010When attempting to write to any USB drive I have connected (including a 1GB USB key and a 1TB Eagle Consus S-ATA Raid0) I initially see the transfer going very quickly as Windows 7 caches the transfer. The speed initially goes to 60MB/s and then the bar stops moving. If I wait, the transfer never completes with a 1GB test file.
I cannot cancel the transfer, since it says Cancelling but never completes. Only a reboot or disconnecting my drive stops the transfer process. While attempting to transfer, any attempt to read from the drive stalls as well.
Read speed is normal. I can access files on the drive, and copy from the USB -> Windows 7 at full speed.
Here are the things I have done to fix the problem:
1) Set the drive to Performance Mode to enable write caching.
2) Uninstalled and re-installed the USB Root Controller and Intel USB Controller devices.
3) Upgraded to the latest Intel Device Drivers.
4) Ensured that my USB ports are 2.0, and that I am connected to the rear powered USB outlets.
5) Installed the Windows 7 hotfix intended for NVIDIA chipsets with 4GB RAM (does not apply to me, but tried anyways).
6) Tried formatting in 16K block sizes instead of 4K or 8K.
When I connect either USB device to my Macbook Pro, with NTFS drivers installed, my read and write speed are normal. For that reason, I know that the problem is not with my USB drives.
Tonite I will try an Ubuntu live CD to see if I can get full speed write with the exact same hardware that Windows 7 is using, to rule out that this is somehow a hardware issue.
Fast Internet, Slow Download Speeds?
Jun 16, 2012So today my friend and I, who live in the same country, was downloading this file.It was around 6GB, which is irrelevant, but yea. It was from the same site, we have the same internet, yet he was downloading with 2.6MB/s while I was downloading with 1.338MB/s and it stayed like that for the remaining 40 minutes. Didn't even move at one point, while his went from 2.1 to 2.6 over 10 minutes. Worth noting, we use the same ISP, he only have 25/2 while I have 50/5, and I could easily download 2 files with the exact same speed (1.338MB/s each but not 1 with 2.6MB/s or more.There's also a client downloader, for this game, where he again got 2.6+ whereas mine always stayed at an amazing 80-180kb/s. I tried disabling anti virus, firewall, Malwarebytes, nothing changed it. I know you're thinking it's just the seeds or site that is limited to an x number of download speed, but it really can't be the case in this. It happens with every site I try. It's always at 1.3xMB/s and never moves regardless of how good it is.
I honestly don't remember, but I don't think this happens when it's a .torrent file, using programs like uTorrent with good p2p. It happens in all browsers, and apparently game client downloaders.I can download 5 different downloads at 1.3xMB/s using all of my available internet, but when it comes to a single file, it for some reason, is impossibleI'm not complaining about the download speed, but it just seems like there's something wrong. My downloads also have a habit of failing in chrome after a few minutes, for no reason. That only happens from some sources though.

Jun 9, 2012After installing Windows 7 Pro and populating my HD with the normal games and programs I usually run I decided to test my connection speed on speedtest.net I was shocked to see a barley got even 4Mbps/down and .67 up.My Connecton is usually 23Mbps down and change (I pay for 24) and 4 Mbps up. So I ran the speed test with my laptop, sure enough it was running at normal speed but my new build is not.I tried internet connection optimize in System Mechanic, and that did not have any affect on performance.

Now, this PC is only meant to run 2 programs and some browsing. The programs are not a problem they are running well, browsing it is. Essentially, with IE 9.0 it does not move, it takes ages to load pages. With Chrome is much better but still unacceptable for ordinary browsing. Is there any tweak I can do to improve the browsing experience? Also, is there a way in the registry to change (temporarily) the RAM parameter and let an application I want to install to believe I have 2GB instead of 1.5GB? Otherwise, that application will not install as they require 2GB min. RAM.

My download speeds are in the 11-20 KB/S range while theres are in the 400-500 range! even my old low RAM computer is getting dl speeds in that range. I don't know why it is doing this, one of my roommates said he still downloads stuff on his win XP computer bc his new Win 7 comp is just as slow as mine! May 1, 2012I'm assisting a client that is running a fully patched SBS 2003. 5 computers on domain; 2 are XP, 3 are windows 7 professional 32-bit.
All 3 Win7 PCs are new HP 6200 SFF, fully patched.
The Windows 7 PCs take a long time to boot up.. it's 3 minutes before the login screen comes up, and after authentication its 2 more minutes before the desktop is up. Once logged on, local network browsing is very slow as well (30 seconds to open a small, 1 page PDF for example, from a local network resource). Network is 100MB, so no gigabit, but ping/throughput to the outside world is fine. Files download quickly, external sites come up instantly, the problem is only when booting up, loading the profile, and browsing intranet.
Making this more interesting is the fact that if the PCs are removed from the domain but still physically attached to network, it boots up instantly, logs in instantly, and browswing local network resources (after authenticating to them of course) is instantaneous.
There may be one more more causes, I accept that... I've combed the event log and see some group policy (errors 1501/1502) events that may indicate delay, but they don't show up every time. Also, that wouldn't explain the slow browsing of network resources.
I've done some research (read: googling) and not finding any specific incompatibilities between SBS 2003 and Win7. Could this be a kerberos issue, and if so, how would they resolve it? I believe I've demonstrated it's not a hardware issue since performance is fine if they are off domain, so it seems like it's a delay processing something on startup and then delays while accessing resources on the network that are relying on cached credentials.
Bit Torrent Won't Work?
