I have ADSL 512Kbps internet connection. Most of the time it too much slow. When i connect to the internet first minutes connection OK, but after few minutes left this worse thing happen. Now, this PC is only meant to run 2 programs and some browsing. The programs are not a problem they are running well, browsing it is. Essentially, with IE 9.0 it does not move, it takes ages to load pages. With Chrome is much better but still unacceptable for ordinary browsing. Is there any tweak I can do to improve the browsing experience? Also, is there a way in the registry to change (temporarily) the RAM parameter and let an application I want to install to believe I have 2GB instead of 1.5GB? Otherwise, that application will not install as they require 2GB min. RAM.
I keep seeing a window pop up saying "speed up browsing by disabling add on's".Should I do it, and what is a add on?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI upgraded my OS from WIN 7 Home 64-bit, to WIN 7 Prof 64-bit and my browsing speed decreased dramatically. I primarily used Chrome before, but browsing is practically impossible on it now. So now I use Firefox 4 since its been decent with me. I have no clue what went wrong since the upgrade was successful. My router is fine, but browsing speed is just super slow. It wasn't like this before I upgraded. Does anyone know what the problem might be?

I then started Chrome and the internet browsing was fast. I ran the speed test program and the speed was what I expected. I switched between IE9 and Chrome to access certain web pages and perform the speed test and in EVERY case browsing with IE9 was unbelievable slow while Chrome was very fast. I cleared the browser history file, check the register for errors. Even as I write this problem on Chrome the IE9 is still trying to access this forum.

But today I moved it to my friends place and for some reason all surfing is really slow, like google.com takes up to 30-40 seconds to load.Using my laptop computer it loads in about a second on the same network.I am on a 4mb/500kb connection and nothing else is using the network.It doesn't matter if I use a cable to connect to the router or a wireless usb thingie.Speedtest and download speeds are just fine, but surfing around on internet pages is very slow.Hardware is a I7 at 3.9Ghz, 4GB ram, plenty of free diskspace.Router is a netgear cvg824g and all settings there looks normal.OS is windows 7 64bit all updated, all drivers updated too.Monitoring the network I can see almost no traffic.Under network properties I have disabled all but the TCP/IPv4 options.

This was happening earlier when I was trying to access AppData so I could fix a GreaseMonkey script. Once the computer "unfreezes" (it doesn't really freeze, as I can use the mouse and other applications that don't have Explorer interfaces open), it seems that I can browse the same directories unimpeded for a time, but this is a regular occurrence, and something must be wrong, or some service that should be running is not.

These problems first occurred about a week ago and came from nowhere. So far I've tried to connect to three different public WiFis and it seems like there's something wrong with the network card or internet settings on my computer as these problems show up regardless of wifi. My download speeds are in the 11-20 KB/S range while theres are in the 400-500 range! even my old low RAM computer is getting dl speeds in that range. I don't know why it is doing this, one of my roommates said he still downloads stuff on his win XP computer bc his new Win 7 comp is just as slow as mine! I recently installed the newest edition of VirtualPC on my Win7 ultimate machine. Having used VPC 2007 in the past, I was expecting a similar experience. Only to be disappointed when I installed a VM of Win7 Pro, and it was extremely slow. The processor speed reported was 5 Mhz. I find this unusual given my host machine's specs. I assured that Virtualization was enabled in the bios, and the integration tools were installed. In the past i have run XP and Win7 in VMs with great success on far less superior machines.

I have speed dial set as my start page. I've got 9 sites on Speed Dial. I don't use custom pics, although I do use a custom skin.Every now and then when opening Opera, it 'freezes' at the Speed Dial tab for 3-7 secs before displaying all tabs/windows. When it 'freezes', all tiles are the + symbol and are blank.Once it 'unfreezes', all is normal.It seems to happen sporadically upon a new start. Once the browser is open, the issue does not reoccur.It's been going on for the last 3 weeks to a month - same version, same skin.Basically, one day it just started happening without any changes to the browser. Prior to this, it loaded instantly 100% of the time.I've cleared cookies/cache the normal way and it's still happening. I've culled a few sites from speed dial without a positive result.

I restored the system partition a few times and I can say pretty confidently that using Disk Cleanup is the cause. Although I'm not sure if the problem is caused by removing SP1 files or some other temporary files.Motherboard is an Asrock ALiveNF6G-VSTA. I'm also using a USB hub, but the problem (slower speed) happens on _all_ USB ports, both on the hub and directly on the motheboard.Windows 7 64 bit, everything updated.

-read speed 25mb/sec appx
When i format it to NTFS, it writes initially at 100mb/s and then suddenly slows down to appx 15-20mb/s... and sometimes it gets stuck somwhere in the middle or on 99% and when i cancel it it start cancelling but doesnt end up, and end ups by removing usb or by logging off... when i copy from usb to harddisk in ntfs format, its working f9...

I have 2 home computers joined through windows 7 home network:
1 is a desktop connected to the d link draft n router via a cable. The other is a laptop with an Atheros wireless n adapter.
Both computers get good internet speeds (20-25mps desktop, 10-20 mps laptop) but the file transfer speeds over the network are usually around 450kbs, once it made it to 1.3mps. Is this a normal speed. Not sure if my settings are off.
Desktop set to auto negotiation for speed / duplex, wireless set to N (40 bgn)
Any tips to speed this up?
2 Days ago I upgraded my PC and moved from XP to Windows 7 Enterprise x64. Everything was going smooth as butter, untill it was moment to use my internet. When I try to download something I get 50-60kb/s dl speed, 100 at max, while in XP my normal dl speed was around 5mb/s. I've installed all the newest drivers for absolutely everything, changed 3 lan cards, including the integrated on my motherboard, and all do the same stuff. My internet is super slow and I get disconnected every 5 or so minutes. I'm with a broadband (PPPoE) connection. I've heard there is a possibility my motherboard is faulty, because they were some mobos wich have problems with Windows 7. My setup is this:

I have speed issues when working with files on the LAN network. They open and save much much slower than XP. On the other hand the ADSL internet connection is fine and running at full speed. What is the problem? The computer is brand new and with fresh install of Windows 7 x64.My other problem is with mapped network drives. On the second computer, which is running fresh install of Windows 7 too, we have mapped network drives which are accessable on the whole network. The problem is that every time we start that PC with the mapped network drives Windows says "Could not reconnect all network drives" and all computers on the network show them with red "x" on the icons. I want them to automatically open at startup.

View 9 Replies View RelatedHere is my problem. In this case, I am trying to transfer pictures from one of my XP systems to my Windows 7 Home Premium system over my wired network. Between the XP systems, things run fairly quick. But not with 7 involved. When I go to transfer the 47 pictures that I want, it tells me that it will take 18 minutes. And this is for only 66.7MB of data. Tell me this can get better. Being new to 7, I have no idea where to look for the problem. I tried searching Microsoft's site and the help files on my system. I just can't find a solution.
Here is some more info, and maybe some you don't need. On the Windows 7 system, I can access all the shared folders on my other systems (all XP SP3). If I go to the network map, my other systems are marked as "The following discovered devices can not be placed in the map.". I don't know if that is a problem or not. The reason I did that is because I was reading through the Microsoft site on file sharing and that was mentioned. It also mentions a program called LLTD, which may be needed on 32-bit XP systems. I tried installing that on my XP system, but it said I didn't need it.
As far as the file transfer, while sitting at my XP system, access is denied when I try to access the shared folder (for my pictures) on Windows 7. Now if I transfer them to the Users/Public/Pictures folder, it will transfer them in just over 5 minutes. Still a little slow, in my opinion, and not where I want them. Why can I transfer there and not into the folder I want them? And why is quicker to transfer while sitting at my XP system?
I have made sure that all the systems have the same workgroup name. I have also tried disconnecting the power from my modem, router, and all systems then powering each one up one at a time. That was suggested to me before. It didn't change anything.
One last thing. While starting my Windows 7 system, as soon as it was at the desktop, I tried to transfer the pictures again and the transfer took off. Almost immediately, it said that there was 20 seconds left. It was flying like I thought it should. Less then a minute into the transfer, it hit a wall and changed to about 20 minutes. Go figure. I checked my settings for the folders I want to transfer to and they are set as shared. Maybe at that point, a security program started up. I don't know. I do have a trial version of Norton's Internet Security installed. It came preloaded with the system. I was thinking of removing that and going with Avast free. I have checked any firewalls and did disable them. No difference.
I tried to list everything I've tried. Hopefully, some helpful info in there. I find it strange that I can access the shared folders but not transfer from them. Any thoughts on what to do? Is there a setting in Windows 7 that needs to be changed?
I have just upgraded to Win 7 Ultimate x64, I had no problems installing Win 7 (fresh Install) The computer is a I5 2500k, Asus P8P67 m/b, GTX 560ti GPU, 8g ram, OCZ 120gb ssd, I haven't connected the 2 tb storage just yet, Not sure if you need that info or not.The Problems seems to be that the Browsers are very slow or may not even load a page. I loaded Utorrent to see if the connection was dropping in and out but while downloading it stays at a steady rate. Which would rule out the Connection to the internet I would assume.

5. Also done a fresh install of windows just to make sure
6. Was connected to a server, but i have bypassed that, Now connected straight to the modem/router.
