I have an Acer Aspire 5720. It is not listed on Acer's website as compatible with Win 7, however many other models with the same specs are. I have been able to find drivers for most of the hardware. The only ones I cannot locate are a Windows 7 x64 driver for both the Alps Touchpad and the Bison Crystal Eye webcam. I am an adventurous one, and have a solid backup, so I am going to try it anyway. I was just looking for any assistance in locating those two drivers.
Laptop wont start up it has a scratching sound on and off and it shows a message saying connection cable no bootable device ,how can I reboot without disk?

When I was running Vista Ultimate x32 on my Acer Aspire 7720-6395 notebook, the Blu-ray playback ran fine. However, as soon as I "upgraded" to Windows 7 Ultimate, the Acer Blu-ray playback software running under Acer Arcade Deluxe was disabled.I ran the Windows 7 upgrade advisor before I paid the $184 to Amazon.com for the "upgrade" to Windows 7 Ultimate, and nothing in the upgrade report indicated that Windows 7 would do anything adverse to my Acer 7720 notebook, much less kill Blu-ray playback. the Acer OEM Optiarc BC5500A Blu-ray optical drive checks out as fully functional, with up to date driver, and will play DVDs and music CDs fine under Windows Media Center. Unfortunately, Windows Media Center emulates Apple in not playing Blu-ray disks. I perform Windows updates regularly, as well as run Norton Internet Security, so I don't think that the killing of Blu-ray playback is an update or security problem.
When I inquired of Microsoft and Acer, Microsoft suggested that I address my problems with the Microsoft 7 "upgrade" killing Blu-ray playback to Acer, the manufacturer of my notebook, and Acer responded that my Acer 7720 notebook is out of warranty, so it's not their problem either.So, I did a trial of a commercial Blu-ray add-on software, Cyberlink PowerDVD 11, but that did not work because PowerDVD 11 is apparently not as efficient as the Acer Blu-ray playback software under Acer Arcade Deluxe is, or was, before the "upgrade" to Windows 7 killed it. Cyberlink PowerDVD 11 apparently requires a more powerful CPU than the T5250 Intel Core 2 Duo CPU and/or a more powerful GPU than the NVIDIA GeForce 8400M GS GPU that came with the Acer 7720-6395 notebook.
Hence, it seems like the only options that the Windows 7 Ultimate "upgrade" gives me, after having invested $184 in it, are:
1. Throw away the investment in the Windows 7 "upgrade" and my notebook, and buy a new notebook;
2. Ask Microsoft for a refund on my Windows 7 Ultimate "upgrade" and try and reinstall and run Vista again;
3. Wait for Acer and Microsoft to work out the problems with the Acer Blu-ray playback software operating under Windows 7 (it seems that neither Microsoft nor Acer is interested in doing that, however);
4. Wait for Microsoft to include Blu-ray playback in the Windows Media Center (I can't imagine why they haven't done this already); or
5. Upgrade the CPU and/or GPU hardware on my Acer 7720-6395 notebook to components that would allow me to run PowerDVD 11.
I have a Compaq Presario CQ56 64-Bit (Windows 7 Home Premium) laptop that I bought before the summer, today a Windows Update has given me an Acer display update published on the 28/12/2011. I thought because I had my vga cable plugged into the TV Windows Update may have become confused but despite checking for updates again it still appears there as optional.
AMD/ATI is recognized by Windows and Windows Update and there had already been a display driver update not so long ago, so I cannnot understand why I'm receiving an update for the wrong machine?
When i turn the computer on i get the screen : setup is starting service. Install Windows. The computer restarted unexpectedly or encountered an unexpected error. Windows installation cannot proceed. To install windows, click ok to restart the computer, and then restart the installation. I have contacted acer they tried to help with the ALT and F12. Nothing I have tried works.. They told me to order the recovery discs for $20.00. I did , and they dont work either... I contacted them back, and now they say to send it back to them and for $199.00 plus shipping, they will repair the computer..I do not have the money for that..I have the the system disc, the 3 recovery disc and the language disc , that I just ordered from Acer for $20.00.
When I press down f10 and ALT at the same time during boot up from the factory recovery disk when seeing the splash screen, nothing happens and the 'acer laptap just boots from the regular hard drive as usual.
After I install the software I need on the SSD I would like to make a bootable copy of the SSD and install it on the HDD to have as a boot able backup. I have read many posts about this yet cannot understand what I need to do.
i'm looking into getting a thumb drive and i was wondering what you guys think would be best?
i know there are a million different brands but i was looking for something to load a Windows 7 build onto and install quickly.
i've been using dvd's and its cool to see all of them in order from 7000 to 7100 but after all the clean installs i'm doing i know dvd's aren't the quickest.
so! what type of USB should i get and how do i make it bootable?
just got myself a 16GB Kingston Drive and what i want to do is put 2 or more bootable images on there create my own boot menu so i can choose what to use when i need it.
Have two HDD, one with Windows 7 professional 1TB SATA and other older win XP sp3 160gb SATA. To keep working environment separate, I use one HDD at a time, disconnecting other HDD. It used to work fine except 2 days back, when I had shut down winXP 160GB HDD with hibernation and after detaching that sata cord and reconnecting 1 TB sata cord, there was a major startup failure. With Windows 7 DVD RE, after opening system recovery dialogue box, no options were working including startup repair, system image recovery and system restore. In command prompt, c drive could not be detected. However, after bootrec.exe/fixmbr win 7 started but is a bit slower.How to avoid this problem? Does hibernation of one HDD interferes with startup of other HDD even though no RAM changes take place?. Does frequent change of HDD like this cause hardware/software damage?Specs - Core 2 duo 1.83ghz, 946gzis mb, 2gb RAM, ATI radeon 4850 512mb, VIP 600w smps.
when i turn on thers a blank screen saying f2 and f12,iv,e pressed both and nothing happens,just a other blank screen saying no bootable devices, i connected a external hard drive and put a windows disc in to try reinstall windows,but still nothing ,windows goes through the motions,and then says something about not been able to find a hard drive
Someone want to explain how the hell you make a bootable ISO from these leaked builds?
Everything I try is FUBAR.
Edit: Okay..nevermind..I Frankenstein it and figured it out finally..I just copied the install files onto my USB flash drive and rebooted and set to boot to USB drive.
No need for an ISO
Edit 2: ...Okay..I give up..I get an error during install saying Windows can't install the required files. The file may be corrupt or missing. bla bla
Anyone else getting this with the 32bit leaked copy that just came out?
