My notebook ASUS U36 spec is as follow
Window 7 Home Premium 64bit
Original installed version, OEM
Use the notebook for about 9months. OS also has been used for 9months. I reformatted it once using the recovery disc the moment I got my hand on the set.
Been having random BSOD for the past week or so. Started on Sunday (11-27-11),where I had come back to my machine and it had been restarted... after logging in, find out that it was a BSOD. I then proceded to have 3 different BSOD events on Monday, which led me to perform a memtest on Tuesday morning to see if my memory was bad. After 2 full passes (I know, not a full 8), it didn't seem to be that, so I went ahead and did a System Restore from a backup from roughly 2 weeks prior. This led to solid performance for the next week, until this morning (Monday, 12-5-11) when I had another. All BSOD events seemed to occur at random times, so I can't say they were triggered by a specific event to the best of my knowledge.
I had performed the BSOD dump collection and Performance Monitor Report on last monday as well as doing the BSOD dump collection today. Regretfully, I cannot get the Performance Monitor to stop running today, so hopefully just the dump collection will be enough.As for my computer components:- HP Elite 7000 MT machine- Windows 7 Ultimate x64- Not the version originally installed on system- Hardware is a little over a year and a half old- 64-bit OS (originally had x86) wasinstalled 13 months ago.- Only non-stock hardware would be an added harddrive (just a backup drive, no OS on it), and I added 4GB more RAM (alongside the original 4GB) back in January.
Computer is still under warranty (purchased in January) but after a couple months, the customer support hasn't been able to hone in on the problem(s), so I'm just attempting some research myself on the blue screen codes I'm getting. Yesterday the motherboard and both RAM sticks were swapped out and I ran the recovery disks, so the operating system is fresh as well. (Hard drive has also been replaced and one RAM stick was replaced previously too.) Didn't see the blue screen happen, just came back and the computer was off and when I turned it back on it went to the windows recovery screen. When I booted to Windows normally it gave me the error, then finished installing the updates.After the motherboard switchout, it automatically boots from the front USB ports first, despite the fact that I've gone into the BIOS and excluded everything from the boot order other than the hd and cd/dvd. (So it'll boot from my jump drive and say 'missing operating system' and I have to restart.) Not sure if it's relevant information, but figured I'd include it.

I just bought a new Dell laptop 6 weeks ago. The laptop is running Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit, Original Install, OEM.
About two weeks after purchasing the laptop Windows startup recovery would run every time I turned on the laptop. Just a few days ago the I started getting the BSOD after logging in to the desktop. If I try to start an application immediately after logging in, I won't get a BSOD. If I log in and leave the latptop unattended I get a BSOD.
BSOD while I was watching a movie using windows media player and had a few Google Chrome tabs open. This has happened several times already with no apparent pattern. Built my system at the end of 2010, added the GPU 2 months ago. Has been happening before and after the addition.

my laptop started crashing every time i play games and watch videos on player.
Code: Windows 7 Ultimate x32 OEM I reformatted it a month ago so i thought it would be fix but its still not fixed... I also thought it would be the heat or the usage of memory but i still haven't found what the problem is i keep getting random BSOD's about usbport.sys and other but i get more error codes....
I imagine I don't need to include much information as your nice new tool has everything you need.

I found myself playing Anno 2070 fullscreen, and had the wife watching a movie via windows media player on my big tv.Windows media player lets you choose a sound output device, so my home cinema got an output from my old motherboard's spdif socket. My game's sound output was via the speakers on my desk, set to low else I get shouted at!Both screens are 1080p, and one had Anno 2070 set to fullscreen and the other playing movies in fullscreen. My dual core would play the game fine, but the movie got really jerky to the point you couldn't pay it close attention.I upgraded my pc to a quad core, with another 8gb of ram and tried to play Anno 2070 and watch a movie at the same time to see how awesome my new setup would be. That was the plan, Anno 2070 was smoother but I had a black screen instead of a movie. I could hear the film, and if I alt tabbed out of the game the movie would appear again and disappear when I went back into the game.All my drivers are up to date, I just got my first SSD (LOVE IT!!) and have a shiny new copy of windows 7 professional installed on it.I have not had much luck with that lucid mvp rubbish, and have installed and reinstalled the drivers for that. Due to tearing in Skyrim and Deus Ex not as good as the first one Human Revolution, I swapped the SLI bridge over from one set of sockets to another.Now, that is the back ground covered, my set up, new copy of Windows, latest drivers and a bit of messing around trying to get rid of tearing in games resulting in Lucid MVP hatred (another long term plan, but I think this is like my old power vr card, good in plan but rubbish so I think Lucid will fade away.Now my Question! Phew! What causes windows media player to go black whilst gaming full screen? I get a little bit of movie time, then it corupts and goes black.I have tried a few things, but google power is failing me and I am scratching my head. I get a feeling that there is a conflict somewhere and before I just wipe my SSD to reinstall, I thought I would see if anyone else has dealt with this before.

I am trying to fix a computer for a relative, but cannot seem to figure out the cause of these BSOD's, they are frequent, with the computer running typically for less than 5 minutes before crashing out, once or twice for longer since I've received it. I removed expired versions of norton internet security and another norton program as well as a basic virus scan with malwarebytes. The laptop also passed a single full pass from memtest.

Frequently I notice when using Windows Media Center watching live TV that WMP is running when I havn't started it. Does it run automatically when Media center runs? And when I stop watching TV and minimize Media Center to the taskbar WMP is still running and consuming 8-12% of my processor when idle. What gives?

View 1 Replies View Relatedwhen i am watching web video - news site video (cnn, wsj, fox) or Internet, a few minutes into it, my system restarts. also, but less frequently, i get random restart on browsing with both ie8 and ff. see my profile for specs - basically windows 7 32 bit oem on a 5 year old p4 system. its fully patched. i thought it might be my avast and ad aware so i uninstalled these and installed ms security essentials. its fully patched too. i have updated my video drivers and installed an ms codec update. the restarts are still happening. the case gets decent air flow and i even slipped the side panel off, blew out some dust. the cpu temp seems fine so i don't think its a thermal warning. i tried the instructions to generate a minidump file, but no luck. the zip file has all my settings re: minidump as per the thread. see word doc in zip file.

- what is the age of os installation (have you re-installed the os?) 6 month old, but got crashes since the beginning. if i'm correct, even before the new motherboard/cpu/mem/psu/gpu install.
i think the crashes usually occur when watching tv on my pc using my avermedia capturehd (a pci-e hdmi input card). but i think i have seen crashes while not watching tv. maybe the capturehd card increases the chance a lot. crashes can be random. sometimes i have a week without crashes,sometimes continuously when rebooting.
a crash results in a bsod or a spontaneous reboot. after a spontanous reboot, the system sometimes halts in a black screen after the reboot.sometimes even a cold reboot doesn't boot well. sometimes after a reboot, starting the tv card immediately results in a reboot. crashes often occur when doing multiple things: watching Internet, having a tv window open, downloading. but sometimes also during low system use while having a tv window open.sometimes the radeon gpu driver shows a popup "display driver stopped responding", and continues working normally.
background info:i use a ssd as boot drive. ssd health is 100%. ram is checked using memtest, which shows no problems.
