BSOD After Long Lasting Freeze After Hitting The Start Menu Button?
Sep 13, 2012
My computer has been acting like an idiot the last months, freezing a lot, sometimes resulting in a BSOD.
Notable programs that seems to initiate these freezes are Google Chrome and something as silly as pushing the start menu button and searching for something.
I was wondering if anyone else has my problem. When I click on the start menu and then all programs, the list freezes while trying to load, but in actuality one of my dual cores goes to 100%, then the second one maxes out after a few seconds.
To get rid of it, I have to click somewhere on the desktop and try to open something else until it can somehow let the start menu minimize. I tried to search this problem in the forums, but I didn't come across anything. I also hope that this thread could be posted in this topic.
I am using the 7048 Build, downloading the 7057 one thinking it may solve my problem.
I have tried and set the menu properties back to the default settings and it still doesnt work. I've looked up if there could be another problem and found out it may be a problem with the registry, however i can't get into the start menu and run the elevated command prompt so i can check it and make sure.
Is there any way of changing the default pop-up menu of the Start Button? I would like to be able to simple click on the Start Button and have the "All Programs" menu selection displayed as deault instead of having to do two clicks each time (Start Menu followed by "All Programs"
Start Menu - Add or Remove Search Button..Both of the Search buttons/links pointed at by the Red Arrow are missing in my Start Menu.Likewise, when I right-click Start/Properties, there is no "Search" by itself in the list.
Last night my husband used his acer laptop successfully. Today when he went to use it the browser was open as usual to the yahoo home page. He hit the refresh button and the screen went black and the spinning circle is all that shows. He tried rebooting it and again nothing happens.
I have been having a Windows 7 issue for a week now. Last week, my desktop computer had the "blue screen of death" and it sort of fixed itself and rebooted, and it seemed to be working again. However, in the past 2 days, everytime I turn on the computer, and then when the desktop pops up, and I click the start menu button, the whole desktop freezes and I can't click anywhere else. I tried going on safe mode and do a system restore, but the choices of time to reset my computer was still after the blue screen of death. It's really frustrating, because I can't turn my computer off properly anymore cause it just freezes, I can't backup my files, because it's frozen, and I can't backup in safe mode.
I`ve got a weird problem that keeps happening. Without any errors or warningall of my Desktop Icons become frozen. I cannot activate any of them. If Ihave any windows open in the Taskbar or programmes running in the System trayI can left/right click on any of them and they all workfine(Programmes/Window Explorer/IE7 etc). I can access the Start menu andis the solution if it happens in Windows Vista but this
Yesterday, the task bar and Start button mysteriously disappeared.I've also found that the "Taskbar and Start Menu Properties" windowdoesn't come up. There are two places to click on in Control Panelthat should bring up this window, but it doesn't. The Control Panelborder changes color as if something is starting to happen, but thennothing happens, possibly indicating that some program starts to runbut then finds something wrong and exits. I didn't see anythinginteresting in the error logs. The desktop icons appear normally. The problem exists only when logging onto my son's account. When Ilog on as administrator, the task bar and Start button appearnormally. The usual tricks don't work: Ctrl+ESC, or bringing up Task Manager andtrying to rerun explorer.exe. I tried sfc to check for corruptedfiles, but none turned up. I ran an AVG scan and it did find one fileit considered a threat, which it removed, but that didn't solve theproblem.
I found a web site that referred to the registrykeyHKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionPoliciesExplorerwhich has a NoSetTaskbar value that can be used to disable the"Taskbar and Start Menu Properties" window. On the administratorlogin, the Explorer subkey is there all right, but doesn't haveNoSetTaskbar. (It does have NoDriveTypeAutoRun.) But when I log ontomy son's account, the Policies key had no subkeys at all. I triedadding an Explorer subkey without adding any values, but this didn'tsolve the problem. I haven't yet tried adding a NoDriveTypeAutoRunvalue, but since this seems to pertain to AutoPlay it didn't seemrelevant to this problem.Any thoughts as to what might be going on or what might fix it?
A few days ago, some applications have begun to freeze right after startup. They don't respond for several minutes and then suddenly work completely normal. I've noticed this behavior in XBMC, Windows Media Player and an application that I've programmed myself (using Python and PyQt, not related to media playing).
The problem seems to be related to the file system somehow, as the freeze returns when I open a "Save as..." dialog in my application. However, other programs work fine, including "Save as..." dialogs. The event log does not show errors or warnings.
so after logon on windows 7 , my networking freeze for some time it looks that: , and other apps in autostart can't load until this icon will be clear without this ring inside.
I have PC connect to router and installed the newest realtek driver for win 7 on motherboard asrock p43de. Whats the problem, how to fix it, before i it normally loaded..
There's a lag in windows when I hold and drag the mouse for selection rectangle, but only when I keep CTRL or ALT or SHIFT pressed along with the mouse button, there's a lag even with this simple rectangular marquee in windows, the movement gets frozen every 2-3 seconds. And when I hold and drag for rectangular marquee with mouse button only, there's no lag and it's smooth as it should be.
Same behavior in 3D softwares: lag when using mouse button + ctrl or alt or shift, and NO LAG when using mouse button only CTRL, SHIFT and ALT are the cause! But the problem now is how to fix that? I want to use the alt or shift or ctrl key along with the mouse in my 3D apps, it's so convenient and useful. I disabled tablet input service and it doesn't work.
I know that the full version can be achieved while holding the shift key, but is there way to bypass that and have the regular full sized menu by default?
However, If I try to change any settings in the options menu, when I click accept the game just freezes. The PC doesn't freeze, JUST the game. When I page out and close the game and reopen it, sometimes the settings took effect, sometimes they didn't.
This happens EVERY time I click the accept button. Other than changing settings in the settings menu, the game works flawlessly. It's just a pain because I would like to change up some settings on my keyboard but after I change it and hit "accept" it just freezes and I have to restart crysis.
**It did NOT do this with Windows 7 Ultimate x64 RC.***
SPECS:
-I'm running Windows 7 Premium x64
-ATI 4850x2 Card in Crossfire (absolutely no scaling issues). this is not two separate cards. It's one card with two GPUs on it.
The red x icon for the close window option is cut off. Using stock skin. Probably easier to understand if you see a pic, What's caused this and how can I fix it?
I don't see "Run" after hitting start? And whats UAC? And I tried to do what you said with the control panel (changing to Administrator) and I didn't get that option? How do you do all of this stuff? i hope i'm not the only one thats stuck but not afraid to ask.
I'm installing some windows updates (53 in fact, yeah I know but it's not my fault ...) on someone's laptop and it's been at update number 6 for 5 hours now. I can't get to the desktop anymore, someone tried to do a shutdown and now the shutdown screen is stuck at update 6. Should I just leave it running for some 24 hours or so. Would it totally destroy Windows if I hardware-shut if off?
When I start up my computer, my Steam starts up, then I manually start Chrome. Chrome comes up fine, Steam does too, but when I try to right click on Steam and click friends, all it does is create another steam process running at 100-108 K. Then if I close Chrome and try to reopen it, it will do the same. This happens with EVERY program after I start up. There's a 5 second window where I can open programs without issue, then after that it will only start 108 K copies of them. It takes me around 30 restarts just to get it working properly, if not more.
1. Which DLL uses W7/64 for the sound at start-up of Windows? I would like to edit it for my own sound.
2. How can I alter the sequence of the entries in the Start-menu? Now the sequence is in sequence of creation, I would like to group them by application-area.
Im not a big tech freak and i dont even know my computer that well, but i know how to follow instructions. My laptop is taking an EXTREMELY long time starting up.. its taking like,, at least 6 minutes to start up.
The problem that i am facing is that, my windows 7 search is instantaneous but when i click on the application the application takes time to load but if i run the same application from Desktop it will load immediately. This happens only one first time after bootup.
