I have just bought a used copy of Age of Empires 3, but when I put the Cd in my disk drive, nothing happens and I get no messages of any sort. I have A windows 7 laptop in good working order, and with the requirements to play the game. Can any one tell me if a game disk can become damaged enough that it won't play, or is there some other problem?
Here are my system specs Manufacturer TOSHIBA, Model Satellite L650, Total amount of system memory 4.00 GB RAM, System type 64-bit operating system, Number of processor cores 2.
I have installed Age of Empires III and it runs with my windows 7 ultimate, but in the home-screen and game there are severe graphic distortions and I can't play the game.
I have tried changing the compatibility to run the game for windows vista, xp, etc. but nothing works.
I have also uninstalled and reinstalled the game..
I have a problem when i try download or install age of empires.I start the setup and secs later he show me this error: url...I have already installed the update for windows (Service Pack 1), thinking that was the problem, but still show the error....I'm also try download and install the game for windows marketplace, but to install that i have the same error.I update everything, i dont have more Windows updates. And still the same error 0x800b0003.
When I downloaded the game I could run the setup and it worked but I had to install the game in 64 bit.So i deleted the installed part and returned to downlaoded to try again but this time.
after installing and loading the game , a message saying binkw32.dll is unresponsive blah blah blah.Ive tried microsoft website but i get to step 7 when extracting this and transferring it is not available?
my monitor exhibited signs of flickering during start-up, but only minor ones and would just stop at the 'Welcome' screen of windows so I didn't give it much thought. Iv'e been using it with the cpu the same time I bought the monitor. But after some time, the flickering got worse. It went from 1-2 second interval flickers to a whole 10 seconds of blackness before it showed anything. Now,Iv'e got a new cpu but still using the old monitor. After a day or so, the monitor exhibited the first symptoms of my first cpu, so I just dismissed it. But after a week, It got a hell worse, before I even start-up my computer, the monitor doesn't show Analog/Digital at the top-left corner of the screen. PLUS my cpu keeps restarting after I pushed the ON button after 10 seconds or so. Is the monitor responsible for the restart and what could be the reason for the flickering?
I just got a huge itch to play the Age of Empires series again. I played Age of Mythology last week and worked without a hitch on Windows 7. But when trying to install my all time favorite Age of Empires 2 yesterday, ran into a lot of problems - after hours of googling, I have managed to get the game up and running without the dreaded colour bug and that too at my monitor's resolution of 1680x1050 (vanilla AoE 2 and AoE 2x are limited to 1280x1024) and I managed to get the game to play background music again (more on this below).
So I am compiling a guide so that anyone who wants to install this classic can spare themselves the agony of spending hours to find a solution. The following guide has been compiled using my Age of Empires Collector's edition which I bought some 9 years ago. I can't guarantee this guide will work 100% for other editions/compilations of the game - but I see no reason why it won't work A. Installing Age of Empires II - The Age of Kings When I tried to install AoE 2, it would keep getting stuck at 50% when copying the file ARIALNB.TTF - so I had to use the following steps to get it to work
1. Insert your Age of Empires II disc. DO NOT run the setup through autoplay. Close autoplay, go to My Computer, right click the AoE 2 CD and Open it.
2. Now right click AOESETUP.EXE and click properties and go to the Compatibility tab
3. In compatibility mode, Select Run this program in compatibility mode for: and in the Drop down menu, select Windows 98 / Windows ME
In Settings, select the following options:
Disable visual themes Disable desktop composition
In Privilege level, select Run this program as administrator Click apply and then click OK
4. Now, run AOESETUP.EXE as administrator and the setup should complete without a hitch B. Installing Age of Empires II - The Conquerors Expansion
The conquerors setup went smoothly for me - did not need to set it to compatibility mode. If you run into problems, I suggest you use the above method. C. Updating the game and Installing the resolution patch
note: the resolution patch will only work for The Conquerors Expansion and not for the vanilla Age of Kings
1. You can get the 1.0c patch from Microsoft Games. Install it.
2. Now get the resolution patch made by boekabart of [URL] - download the AoE2WideSetup.msi installer
3. Get a No-CD exe for the conquerors expansion -the widescreen patch only works for No-CD exe, spent around an hour trying to get the widescreen patch to work only to find in the readme that it wont work with the original executable because its encrypted or something
4. The readme for the widescreen patch says that it only works when it's installed to the game folder of Age of Empires 2 so when installing the patch, keep that in mind. My installation path for the patch was: J:GamesMicrosoft GamesAge of Empires IIAoE2Wide
5. After installing the patch, you should get a shortcut on your desktop named AoE2Wide. Run it. After it finishes running you should get a .bat file on your desktop named "AoC1.0c 1680x1050.bat" or something.
6. Right click on the .bat file and go to the compatibility tab and select Run this program in compatibility mode for: and in the Drop down menu, select Windows XP (Service Pack 2) and click OK.
7. Now run the .bat file as administrator and keep your fingers crossed!! In game menu, make sure to select 1280x1024 as resolution. If all goes well, the game should be running at your desktop/monitor resolution and the colours bug should vanish. Enjoy! D. About the Music Bug and Fixing it
This has plagued AoE 2 for a long time now. The Age of Kings and The Conquerors CDs are mixed mode CDs i.e. one part holds the game data and the other part holds the game's BGM in Red Book Audio CD format. Now, old computers (1999-2000's) had no problems with this as they had an audio connector for the CD drive (more info here) and AoE would play the audio track off the CD once you start the game. But since now we use SATA drives, the game wont play BGM anymore.
This always puzzled me as when I got the game I had a Win 98 Pentium 2 PC with a Philips CD drive which had an audio connector and the BGM would play correctly- but when I got my Pentium 4 machine with a Samsung DVD drive with no audio connector, AoE 2 would not play music anymore and it takes a lot out of the game as the music plays a big part in setting the mood of the game.I used to get around this by starting a game in AoE, alt+tab back to windows and then playing the Game CD in Windows Media Player and then alt+tab back into the game. When using the above widescreen patch, my system hangs for a bit when alt tabbing back to windows (I guess it's because the patch suspends explorer.exe in order to prevent the colour bug). So after more searching on google and experimenting, I found another method here developed by TheMegaX2 and FrozenWolf150 Quote:
1. Use Windows Media Player to rip the soundtracks from the game CD's. I did this with both the AOK and AOC soundtracks. WMP will usually create .wma files.
2. Rename them to something recognizable, like AOK Track.wma, since the default name for both is 01 Track 1.wma.
3. Use a free audio converter, to convert them to .mp3 format.
4. Copy them to the Taunt folder.
5. Assign them numbers like you would for custom taunt files. I named them 50 AOK Track.mp3, and 51 AOC Track.mp3.
6. When you start the game, now you can choose between the AOK and AOC soundtracks, based which you prefer. Just press enter and type 50 for Age of kings BGM, and 51 for The Conquerors BGM and press enter again.
So the drives in question are 3 Seagate 1.5tb 7200.11 HD's.
They show up fine in the BIOS where they are all listed as slaves (ga-p55-ud4p) and in Device Manager - which lists them all as working properly. I cannot distinguish one from another in Device Manager, and the one that is working has very important legal files on it.
However, I can only see one in "My Computer" - but the other 2 I cannot "see" them so I cannot access them.
The one I can see is the oldest one and was not altered when the older PC was upgraded (upgraded all components except HD's and OS). I also kept 2 older WD 500AAKS which are both working fine as well.
The two I cannot see: One is brand new. The other was reformatted to blank (quick) on another PC (which was upgraded to Win7 at that time) which subsequently could not see the drive. I moved it over to this faster PC and still cannot see it.
All these 1.5tb Seagate drives are CC firmware so are not part of the older firmware issue. None have any 1.5gb jumpers on them.
Mobo drivers are all fully up to date - I just re-updated all of them. Windows is up to date. Windows does show in the Troubleshooter that a USB controller driver is not found and I cannot seem to find out how to install it (via uninstalling it, updating drivers, etc etc - question thread
New external HDD won't show in "Computer". I Have searched a lot, but only find comments directing me to Disk management and Device manager. The Ext. HD is not showing there either. Power light is on. This is a Lacie 2 TB Minimus USB 3.0 External Hard Drive [URL] No "Doorbell" sound when I plug in or un plug the USB connector. The LaC i.e., troubleshooting page tells me to go to device manager, but like l said, it's not showing there either.
Plus, it seems to have knocked out several of my USB ports, and I had the warning flag next to several of them in device manager ,but I was able to get them back by right clicking on each line one at a time, Un installing, and right clicking on the heading for the group, and selected "scan for hardware change". Then in the tray, I saw Driver was installed, or device is ready, something like that. All the ports seem to be working now, and the yellow flags are gone.
I did then try the External drive again, but it is still not working. I also installed desktop manager, but it's telling me to plug in my external drive, and then to re start my device. And if I start Desktop Manager it says, "No LaCie Desktop compliant device found." So I have another computer that shares this monitor,so I shut this one down, and hooked up my usb keyboard and mouse to the other older desktop system running XP, and the older computer does recognize this external hard drive.
It is in My computer on the older XP system/computer. So I shut that one down and started this one, and it does not show up on this computer, but then I noticed my keyboard would not work. Had to switch the keyboard USB ports to the other front USB port. And I had the yellow flags back in device manager again. Had to un-install again and let the system re install (selecting "scan for hardware change). Windows 7 Home premium, 64 Bit, Compaq Desktop, model 2010.
After install windows 7 everything fine until I install all Asus driver Intel chip all my HDD DVD is missing not show up on my computer anyone having problem? In bios it show up all HHD DVD ROM.
I want to transfer files from my ipod to my computer but when I look for my ipod in "my computer" it doesn't show as a drive. I can use it with I tunes, it works fine but for my purposes, I need to access the files on the drive in "my computer" I am using windows 7
My External USB Hard Drive doesn't show up in My Computer Win 7 64bit.
I've just received my Western Element 2,5Tb today. When I first plugged it in, it worked normally. But due to my over-excitement, I copied too much files at the same time and it wasn't working anymore. I regretted doing this immediately.
I have searched on the internet to find some solutions but all of them didn't work. I've checked the Computer Management, Disk Management, but nothing about my External HD showed up. In the notification area, my laptop still detected it and I can removed it properly [even though i can't use it at all].
I tried to connect to my USB and another Samsung 500Gb HDD. And it worked perfectly fine. Then, I tried to connect my new HDD to my sister's lap [she is using Window Vista] and it worked perfectly fine too.
Such as a mouse, a mobile, or an external drive.I mean make them visible (in My Computer) even though they're not connected so it's easier to remember what devices I use. My memory is awful, don't ask.Obviously I know I wouldn't be able to access the files unless the devices were connected, but the point is to make their icons show up as if they were connected even though they won't actually be of any use.
I have a hp pavillon dv-9000 running win 7 pro.......this laptop when give to me was in bad shape.... At one point i had the cd/dvd rom drive working yet in the middle of loading windows files it stoped working.... Knwoing the bios has only the driver for win vista i thought the driver for cd/dvd might not work.. So i droped win 7 on a usb flash drive..... The os is up n running.... So far no real troubles.. Ive had to jump around to find drivers for this..Any ways i still dont have a cd/dvd driver nor any place in the device manager to even update the driver..Gren ligh on cd/dvdrom door..... Oh and i have a replacement cd/dvdrom drive. That when i install i no longer have a green light on door it is red..... Funny thing is it dont show in my computer or device manager yet in the bois it is enable.. Yet dont read in boot list? Humm wait now my head forgot if it reads in boot list or not... Ill check it again to make sure im right... So thinking this over...
I was on a flight with EasyJet today, and, the cabin manager confirmed that WiFi was available on the aircraft, and, as a matter of fact Windows 7 was indicating that new connections were available, however, I had a blonde moment. I could not browse anywhere to discover the name of the network and try to connect. I think that this is a design flaw, as WinXP allows users to discover new SSIDs, or else the SSID is configured in some way that it cannot be found is it possible?
How do I get my external drives to show up in my computer as a letter and not in the printer and devices.... Some of my external drives works fine. Everything was working fine 3 months ago. Everything works fine on my laptop...
Our computer has wireless internet connection. Network type: Access Point Security Type: No authentication (Open) Encryption Type: WEP. "Show characters checkbox" is greyed out (There definitely is a password.) How can we show the Wifi password?
My computer doesn't show asian characters...including languages like Hindi, Arabic, Chinese(all), Japanese, Korean, Gujarati etc....I have many files in these languages but because of problem it shows only boxes in file names....There is no problem in displaying characters in browsers and word processors...Sometimes it shows all characters correctly but sometimes it doesn't. After reboot it shows them correctly, but not every time.
I have an issue where my flash drive periodically won't show up in My Computer... when I insert it, I hear the 'hardware insert' sound but no drive in my computer and no autostart. it doesn't show in device manager and clicking 'refresh' does not make it show up! if I remove the flash drive, the drive appears in 'my computer' for a second then disappears... the same problem occurs when I plug it into another port... I have four ports, only three of them are not used by something plugged in permanently... usually I have to insert the flash drive into random ports at least 5 times before it displays the drive...
