windows7 in "change sharing options for different network profiles" it always sets the current profile to "public" and i need it to change to "home or work" and i can not change this. it will not connect to my access point therefore. it sees the access point but will not connect. if i plug in the cable it goes with no problem to the home or work network.
I'm having problems changing the Advanced system settings to all the users on my PC. How can i enforce a certain System setting to all User Accounts without having to log them on one by one? And another one is how can transfer Personal User Directories to another Drive without removing the access permissions in them. (Example: C:\Users\Computer to D:\Users\Computer) Cause when i changed the user directory to D:/. That certain user directory can now be accessed by all Standard user accounts in my PC.
I have adjusted the Advanced Appearance Settings in Control Panel to make my window headings a little larger and bolder. The changes have worked well in all my programs except Office 2010 programs! These programs continue to show the original small, unbolded heading fonts. I have been told on another Windows 7 Forum that Control Panel changes will not work on Office programs, so is there another way to change the Title Bar headings in Office 2010 so that they are a little larger and bolder?
I have two external drives that I'd like to share. I have them mapped as an X: and Y: drive. I go into advanced sharing settings > permissions, and add Full Control for the group "Everyone". I hit apply and it looks fine and dandy. When I reboot my machine the sharing settings are lost.
When the computer initially starts up Auto Play opens for both drives. Not sure if this has anything to do with it though. how to get my sharing settings to stick for both externals?
What do you guys think is the best way to make custom windows 7 images? I have been looking at RT 7 Lite but its missing a lot of the functionality i was hoping for. Any know of any better alternatives?
I'm looking for some help with some Windows Firewall advanced settings. I've already downloaded Vista Firewall Control to simplify the firewall setup, and its really doing what I want (asking me for any inbound and outbound connections), but the free version doesn't allow control over general network access (at least not that I can find so far). I need to get my Windows 7 computer to recognize my WinXP in the network screen, something that I can't seem to do without making some special rules in the firewall settings.
I've already turned off "password protected sharing" and set the "send password" option in gpedit.msc to enabled... settings which worked well in a previous install (AVG removed my access to folder options so I had to reinstall), but I can't seem to get to work now that I've installed VFC. So I guess I need to know what "rules" I need to set up to retain the strict control over inbound/outbound connections that I've got with VFC, but still allow easy network access between the 2-3 computers on my router.
I have a installation issue with a x64 w7 RC and I am trying to configure my G-13 advanced gaming keyboard ( the controller thing) it will run and functional but only for default settings when I try to customize the settings I get the default settings..
how to remove Advanced System Protector? I tried to uninstall program, but Windows block stated file does not exist. ACS block still shows up on screen upon computer start up. I went into registry to remove but was not sure which file was ACS
I am a very advanced user in the I.T field and love XP. When Vista came out I would not go near it but I hear good things about Windows 7 and I'm ready to make the switch.Given that I am an advanced user and dislike user-friendliness in my OS, I was wondering if anyone knows of a Video Tutorial of Windows 7 geared for advanced users of XP that I could download/obtain.
When I go to Indexing Options within the Control Panel, the dropdown informs me that "Indexing is not running" and only the Advanced button is available. I really don't seem to be having problems with my searches although many a time when doing a search , there is a banner saying that "Your searches may be slow because index is not running." I will then click the prompt to index. The searches seem to be fast enough, but I really can't tell if they should be faster.Even though I have selected to index, when prompted, going into Index Options will still show that the index is not running??? Could it be that this action is only temporary at its time of use? Once I get indexing working, I would imagine that I would like to choose just those folders where speedy searching would be of benefit, but I'm not sure which files/folder they should be. I'm thinking Pictures, Music, Documents, Program Files (x86), Program Files.
My sister has a Hp laptop. Computer Specs unknown. Running Win 7. She let a friend use her laptop while visiting. They downloaded" Advanced Sytem Protection." I have used everthing in my arsonal of knowledge to remove/uninstall this program. Have tried the following, Add remove Programs( not showing intalled here) so, unable to uninstall, Malwawre Bytes, MSE, even tried removing thru regedit, ( Yes I am very familiar on how to remove registry items using regedit). Have tried system restore. But, do not know how restore to a date from say two weeks to a month back.
during the setup I have no "advanced" option at the partitions menu which must contain the, formatting option. I have the partitions menu and only two buttons under it: "Refresh" and "Load Driver"
i am having some problems with my PC. First off, I'm having a problem with the new ATI catalyst drivers and games. I get a lot of artifacts in the games such as MW3 and I've tried everything from uninstalling to searching the registry for entries about ATI and AMD.Thats not why I'm here though. I want to try a factory restore. I've backed up all my important information so I'm ready. The problem is when I press F8 at boot, I get no options. My PC - a Dell Inspiron One 2305 did not come with any disc.If it helps I had to do a factory restore before when I had a bad virus. I had to use a program called EasyBCD?
I have blocked all outbound traffic in the advanced firewall window and have tried to make a rule to allow Internet Explorer and Firefox through but with no joy. I have looked through previous posts but couldnt find an answer.
I have tried the Sphinx software but I don’t really need that or really want it. I just want to let browsers, anti virus and windows update through. I used to let windows update on vista through by allowing svchost through but only allowing the update service.
I allowed TCP port 80 through but that just let’s most things through.
The process I did was create a new outbound rule, choose program path, choose allow (not block by default), apply to all profiles and then name the rule. But it just wont go through so I am wondering what I am doing/not doing?!
I have also tried the normal firewall window (control panel, windows firewall) and let firefox through but still didnt work for me.
I just realized the firewall software is installed on Windows 7 is a vast improvement on the old XP day's! I was looking to use comdo or zone alarm however it looks like everything I would use is included in this built in firewall.
However I would like to know if anyone can tell me a way to have the firewall software PROMPT me each time any application tries to connect outside of my PC?
So I can set a rule and say yes allow this or deny this?

I don't know why Microsoft made this so difficult in Windows 7 / Server 2008..I use the Windows Advanced search to find files containing a certain word, it pulls up a list of results... I can "select all" and I can do things like copy them to another location, but I CAN'T find a way to delete these files!!If I click the DELETE key while they are all selected, nothing happens. It's not allowing me to drag the files into the Recycle Bin.Am I missing something here? It seems that all options that are normally available when right-clicking on file(s) are present in the right-click menu (open with, send to, create shortcut, etc) EXCEPT for cut or delete.
I am uninstalling Firefox using RevoUninstallers Advanced method but there are a whole lot of files and registry entries so can someone take a look for me at my screenshot HERE and let me know if I can delete these safely? Or will I mess up my pc...It's a long image so you'll have to zoom
Wont boot into safe mode or original windows OS disc (which worked previously).I'm Using UBCD, never had a hard disk problem, never had memory problems.Disk is accessible using G-parted and all files are still there. The only thing i have noticed once the error started is that the label on my local disk (c) changed to blank but i then changed it back and still nothing, also made sure that my windows partition was set to "boot". I'm assuming its partition editing that i must do, but don't know where to start exactly, and I'm also assuming that it was a registry cleanup that caused this error.
I have tried F8 several times to bring up advanced boot options--just to make sure it comes up in case I ever need it. Well--it has no affect; my PC continues into Windows 7. What am I missing here?
I have 2 hard drives in a Raid 0 configuration. On this configuration, I have 2 partitions, C and D. C currently has Vista on it.
booted from win 7 64bit disk. Select Custom. Select advanced options and highlight the C partition. All of the advanced options are greyed out (format, delete, etc).
If I select the D partition, all the advance options are available, but obviously I don't want to install to the D drive.
Does anyone have any thoughts as to why the options are greyed out on my C partition? could it have to do with the Raid 0? It came from Dell like this.
