In XP I could drag shortcut to the Start Up item in the Start Menu and they would load at boot time. I have tried this in Win 7(64) but nothing happens. Is there a trick here? I am trying to load standalone progs (portable if you like) which are not actively installed.
I recently built a system based on a MSI Z68-GD80 mobo + i7-2600k. Comes with Virtue which is supposed to automatically switch from Intel gfx to discrete gfx card when a game is fired up has a white list of approved games and the ability to add your own game to the list.Although I am not a gamer, I tried adding the exe for Cinema 4D to the list, but it didn't activate the Virtu process when I opened C4D.So I was wondering - has any forum members successfully added any graphics apps to the Virtu list, or is it really only for 3D games and just gets triggered by DirectX etc.BTW I would like to use both on-die and discrete gfx because my Black Gold HDTV card works great with Intel gfx, but pixelates with the HD5770 card.
I am trying to figure a way to prevent programs from automatically adding themselves to start-up.(totally annoying) Tools like daemon tools will add itself to start-up every time I run the program.. same goes for sandboxie and various other programs.. Anyone know of a way or tool maybe that prevents this from happening so I can feel like I am actually in control of my windows box?
I can only connect to the network using 64 bit applications on Window 7 Pro SP1.The problem occured after installing the latest version of iTunes (may or may not be related). I uninstalled iTunes with no change. IE 32 bit crashes after opening. Firefox opens but gives Server Not Found error. I cannot connect webservers on the local network with Firefox either. Filezilla will not connect to local or remote servers. VNC will not connect to local servers - IE 64 works fine and command line tools like ftp and telnet to internal and external sites works fine - this is not a DNS, Firewall, or Routing issue.
Same results in Safe Mode sfc /scannow runs clean.
I reset the winsock, uninstalled all my network adapters, including the drivers and resinstalled them.Rebooted multiple times.Unfortunately I just discoved that System Restore was not enabled so I can't roll back.I doubt this is malware related as I have multiple levels of defense (postini, SpyShelter, Symantec Endpoint) and outside of iTunes have not downloaded or installed anything or even visited unusual websites. I'm about to do a deep scan that will probably take a few hours just to play it safe.
After I close programs that are still pinned to the task bar, can I install another program where the install wizard recommends closing any programs before continuing?
After a minor infection, something Komondo calls trojware.win32.agent.gen@218380279 I can not run Malwarebytes, Spybot or AdAware.Networking not getting an IP from the router either. Have tried netsh winsock reset and went to ControlPanel-Network & Sharing-network connection but it comes up blank. Ethernet card shows up in Device Manager.Just discovered that almost every service is disabled!
Our computer with windows XP crashed and died. We now have windows 7. when i log on to the internet i have six lines of apps in addition to the yahoo search bar. i only need the yahoo search bar and the 'Options" app, the http:// search bar, the minimize app, the close app, the restore down app, the home app, the favorites, feeds and history app, the tools app, the tool bar options app, and maybe the line that shows previous sites. i do not need bing search bar, and all the other,(about 40 or so) other things to click on. they just take up space.how can i take off the things on the top of the page which i do not want and do not need.
You cannot move appp around in windows as windows makes DLL files and registry entry and moving it will break it.Also Microsoft wants people to use shortcuts and moving apps will break the shortcuts of path of the files.
In OS X all files needed to to run the app are glued with the app and in windows you must run the installer to make the directory where it will copy all files to run the app ,make path ,make the shortcuts and DLL files and registry entry .
Moving files around break the DLL files and registry entry .Part of this is to stop illegal copying. In windows people use the installer to remove or install app we never move app around like in OS X .
Also most time apps have to run in system level in windows not like OS X It is not the scopes of Linux ,windows ,OS X security myths but the thread got little of topic of talking about moving appp around in windows and other OS.
I have Windows 7 Home Premium. I can connect to and browse the internet using Google Chrome. Internet Explorer times out. I noticed the problem because my AVG update is not updating. I also have not received any Windows updates and when I tell Windows to check, it takes a long while to say that there are none - my assumption is that it cannot get a connection and is timing out.
ii am using windows 7 . suddenly apps like bit torrent , tune up utilities , google chrome crashed when opening. tried to reinstall but then also crashed .
I made 3 partitions on a 128G SSD. I installed Win7Pro64 on the first partition. Now I'm ready to install some programs and I just realized, I don't really want to change the default directories at all...I think that's just asking for confusion and trouble.
I was so convinced I needed a separate Programs partition. good reason to have a separate partition for your programs?
Very peculiar problem that probably started with installation of a toolbar by mistake. Suppose I'm in chrome and typing in a text box, after exact 5s, the whole window loses focus and i need to click on the box again to regain focus and resume typing (you can understand how annoying this is). I have tried these so far but failed to resolve: Got rid of the toolbar, Ran MSE. It cleaned two security issues. Created new user, Still, the same. No change.
what can you expect if you try and install a Windows 7 application with hardware and drivers on a Windows xp OS. I am looking for technical data on this scenario not just that it will not work.
My laptop (Sony Vaio / Win 7 Pro 64 bit) began playing up a couple of months ago, occasionally clicking on an icon (eg Firefox, Outlook...) in the taskbar (or from the start menu as well) failed to launch the program. The 'cursor wheel' would spin but then a few seconds later...nothing. A reboot generally fixed it. Over the past couple of months this has got much worse, to the point where now nothing will launch and a reboot doesn't fix it. In safe mode, all appears to be OK. I am working in safe mode now. I tried sfc /scannow. No problems reported I have run virus scans with: G Data, SAS, MBAM, MSE, Spybot. No malware reported. Before I surrender & reinstall Windows, In the event viewer there are a shedload of errors of various types -typically relating to (1) inability to pick up an IP froDHCP server or (2) Microsoft Security Client OOBE stopped. Dunno if they are relevant or just normal running.
I have read about the differences in 32-bit vs 64-bit apps and OS.But is there any differences in the files that a 64-bit and and 32-bit app runs? Is there such thing as a 32-bit file and a 64-bit file? For example can I create a wmv file in a 64-bit app and OS and then run this file in a 32-bit Window Media Player?Does the ability to take advantage of more than 4GB of RAM only sits with the app and OS or does it also depend on the file that the app runs?
I would like to move windows 7 and some of my games and apps to my new faster HDD, how would i go about doing this correctly? (so it is the boot drive and games run from the new drive)
Im looking for an app that when triggered would display icons of my recently closed apps. I have tried ReOpen but it just displays a list of the app names. Or maybe a rocketdock style app that just displayed recently closed app icons.
My HP laptop has decided it just wants to sit there after I try to open applications. A friend of mine reommended I download Combofix as he thought this would resolve issue...it hasnt. What I have noticed, is that for the past few days, if I have tried to open firefox, it has come up with error that its already open, but if I wait a few seconds, it works fine. The firefox prob happened once before and I hate to delete out a profile and bugger around with with another setting, but I cant remember what I did. ANother thing I have noticed, is when an app does eventually open, after about a minute, it states its not responding up the top, but then it disappears and app seems fine. If you try to use arrow keys to scroll down, it hesitates sometimes also....
How can i move or transfer my installed games to the other drive so i can use it to for other purposes is there any way that i can transfer my installed games to the other drive.
I have a system that I'd like to clone to an SSD. The source disk is an HDD that is currently using two partitions. I'd like to just move the C partition to an SSD, but my only question is, what cloning apps would allow the SSD to be recognized properly, or would Windows 7 pick up the fact it is an SSD drive and adjust the OS accordingly, including enabling TRIM.
If it matters, the SATA controller is already set to AHCI, and the target drive is a Crucial C300.
Forgot to mention, I had been using Partition Wizard 7.0 (bootable iso) in the past, but never with an SSD.
In my notification area (by the time) I have three objects: Sound controls, internet, and Action Center. By clicking on the arrow next to it you see a tray of many other things that I like to keep out of sight. However, often one of these items (For example, Dropbox) will randomly hop out of the tray and into the list with the other three objects and will be in clear sight. It is not just Dropbox that does it (although that seems to be the usual perp), so I don't believe it has something to do with Dropbox connecting all the time or being "active". Is there any solution to this problem? I have tried going into the properties of the notification area ("Customize...") and turning the icons off, but to no avail.
Computer woken up from sleep, go to task bar to open an app, get flashes of app when selecting app's icon on taskbar, but app doesn't open. However, some apps open and some apps don't. Those that do open, when left clicked on for a menu item, the app closes.Although an app opens it is not functional. The only way to restore normalcy is to hard close the computer and reboot, then everything is OK.
I am a greenhand for the Windows7 deployment via MDT.I am currently facing an issue, I downloaded the ATI drivers from Dell Offical website (I am using Dell laptop), they I extracted the driver files using the 7zip, then imported the files to the MDT Out-of-box drivers, but this could only import the driver files, for the application, MDT couldnot import. Is there anyway to import the both Drivers and App of the ATI together to MDT, thus when deploying the windows, the drivers and app of ATI can be installed along with the Windows OS.
When I open World of Warcraft or Call of Duty modern warfare 2 Single Player my internet download speed drops from 160kbs-220kbs to 0kbs in about 5seconds. Faster on World of Warcraft. Call of duty it takes about 6minutes to drop out completely. When I watch Videos on VLC I think I run about 10kbps slower than normal as well (these are videos on my hdd) I think it could be Graphic card interference, or a fan interference maybe the processor but not sure. Or else it's its a windows 7 conflict with drivers and such.I am using my internal wireless card don't currently and probably wont have access to LAN connection anytime soon.
My network adapters Broadcom 802.11g Network Adapter "BCM43XX64" Using a driver from ASUS laptop site, the driver seems to be better than HP's Old 2009 driver. Cannot find my card on Broadcom's site. How ever the setup I got from ASUS has my card in it so it should be correct. BCM43XX64 Driver Ver. 5.100.235.19. I tested about 5 different drivers from HPs site one of them blue screened me until I safe mode uninstall.Realtek PCIe FE Family Controller Disabled Driver 7.3.522.2009 from HP site, Win 7 x64 I have a Westell DSL router A90-750022-07 Software VersionVER:5.02.00.04 with Century Link internet, fiber optic line, speed test average rural 1mbps internet. Messed with security on router tried resetting it as well nothing helped. I don't think the router is the problem, I could go to Vista and get on online games just fine.
I am the only one the connection at the moment problem still exists I've Fresh reformatted Windows 7 2x to be sure. This current install isn't fully updated yet but I have all my laptops drivers installed. Earlier I had a fully updated install still had the issue.Well basically this is huge for me because I haven't been able to play World of Warcraft since I installed Windows 7 and I also I cannot run any 3d application and download / browse at the same time.Everything worked fine on Vista x64, but I really want to use Windows 7 I get way better benchmarks in almost every aspect compared to vista accept these networking issues.
Disable / enable Windows firewall and windows defender. Disable Avast Install different versions of Broadcom driver. Run as admin on admin account WTF fast leatrix latency fix
I'm from the old school days of using only spybot s&d and ad-aware but knowing times change and all, looking to get more current and clean my PC back up in the process. In doing a little research I'm using these programs and would like some further recommendations. What do you use? What would you recommend?
