ASUS MoBo Will Not Boot On SSD Drive On New Build?
Jan 11, 2012
I have just completed a new build. On first switch on the BIOS loaded & I received the message 'Re-boot & Select proper boot device'.I can't get past this. The build has a SSD drive only, the onboard graphics is being used for now, I have not yet connected a CD'DVD drive & no other drives.I have initialised the drive in another PC but that has not resolved the issue. All components are new, has anyone had a similar problem, it's got me puzzled?Motherboard ASUS P8Z68-V PRO/GEN 3Intel i5 2500K 3,3 Ghz 1155Corsair Vengence memory 16GBCorsair 60GB Force 3A SSD SATAiii 6Gb/s

I have the above mobo, just installed windows 7 64bit. Everything else is fine but I cannot get the sound to work even though when I test or play music I see the bar rise and fall. I have exhausted everything I know to do. I did see the CM6501 thread here but after trying the drivers, it still does not work and when I click the CM6501 icon, it freezes the PC and I have to reboot.
Any ideas?

Just installed Windows 7
Do I insert the CD that came with my PC (which included the original ASUS driver) & install that driver, THEN go to the ASUS site and update the newest driver?
OR is there another/better way.
Oh - did a clean install of win 7 and I do see a Windows.old folder - if this is of any help.

I just started toying with Windows 7 64 bit, and I've hit my first snag (a common one it seems): getting my onboard 7.1 surround to work. Mobo is an Asus P5K Premium WiFi.
At first, before installing any drivers, it worked perfectly fine in the sound test, all 7 speakers. But I can't seem to make Media Player use em, or the one game I've installed, Fallout 3. In both cases, only the 3 fronts work. I'm assuming this is a driver issue, as it works fine in 32bit Vista.
I tried installing the last Vista 64 bit driver, but I get the same results: the configuration/tester app works fine, but only the front speakers work in Fallout 3 and WMP. The driver I used was:
AD1988BBlackHawk_V6100126280JVBWHQL.zip
Any idea if such a driver exists for Windows 7? I found this one in another post (DLing now), but I'm not sure if it's the right one for my mobo:

Any clues guys?

I am experiencing very random BSOD. I keep my HTPC on 24/7 and this happens usually when I am not on a computer or have a huge copying job running. I have run memory test and there are no errors. Just changed my SSD and Mobo. I was previously having BSODs as well but I think I nailed that one by updating the firmware on my OCZ Vertex 3 SSD. This is a very new install. Just installed about 7 days ago and left it to run to see stability, but it doesn't seem to be stable.
My system specs:
Asus P8z77-V Pro mobo (new)
Intel Sandy Bridge i7 3.4 Ghz 2600k
Corsair Vengeance 16GB DDR3 1600 MHz
Samsung 830 256GB 830
1GB Sapphire HD 5750 Vapor X Radeon Graphics Card
Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Titanium Fatal1ty Pro Series 7.1 Sound Card
Cooler Master Silent Pro M 600w PSU
I have just upgraded my SSD to a Samsung 830 256GB 830 and mobo to an Asus P8Z77-V PRO.

I have an ASUS P5E-VM HDMI mobo and running Windows 7 Professional. The mobo has a VGA and HDMI and dual monitor capabilities. I have my computer monitor on VGA and my TV on HDMI. When I have both monitor and TV connected, I lose the Windows 7 startup animation. It uses the Vista animation instead. When I have just the computer monitor alone, on VGA or HDMI, the Windows 7 animation comes back. How can I make the Windows 7 be used even if both monitor and TV are connected?

After putting in a second GPU -- which now covers 3 of my Sata ports -- I was forced to switch my drive order around. I was able to boot successfully with 2 of them, but oddly not 3. So I removed my System Reserve drive, setting C: to the active drive, figuring that would clear things up. Then plugged in my 3rd drive into that spot leaving just 2 drives, but windows still does not boot.I checked boot order in BIOS, but I still get boot error.Windows will only boot when I remove the drive leaving only the OS drive.I know a reinstall will solve my problems, but I need to avoid that at all costs.

I'm replacing my mobo/cpu with Sandy Bridge parts when they become available tomorrow, and I'm hoping to be able to move my data partition over without wiping it. I've currently got my drive partitioned up such that C is Windows 7 and basic programs, and the D drive includes my Steam games and other data. I know that a new mobo means reinstalling Windows, so will I be able to just wipe the C partition, keep the D partition intact, and then reinstall Windows 7 over the C partition on the new computer without issue, or will all the programs on D fail to recognize and function with the new Windows 7 install?

I just finally finished building my first gaming rig, everything on it is great and really fast. However, the windows boot has now got a lot slower. In the "Starting Windows" screen (the black one where it shows the colorful windows symbol) it now sits there for about a minute. This morning and yesterday it only took 5-10 seconds. I just built it, installed drivers, windows, etc., yesterday. Once I finished with those, I made a backup image. I then loaded more programs and games on today.
Then I restarted my comp and found it took a lot longer to reboot. I restored it back to the image in case I put on a bad program or something, but it still boots slow. What causes a brand new computer with an SSD shouldn't take this long to boot. I also installed the drivers for the MOBO from the CD, and I couldn't find any firmware update for the SSD (the software Magician that came with it said there weren't any)
It's also Windows 7 Professional 64 bit.
Here is my build: [URL]

So I'm building a new computer completely from scratch, save for the hard drive, which I'm recycling from my old system. The hard drive currently has Windows XP installed.
My question is, can I upgrade the system with this? [URL]
Also, I plan to eventually buy a new hard drive. This presents a dilemma, because at the moment I can only afford the OEM or Upgrade versions of Windows 7. I read an article on PC World that claims there is a way to do a clean installation of Windows 7 using an Upgrade license. Here's the article: [URL]
Anyways, is that method still valid? Have any of you guys heard of it before?
I'm considering buying the Upgrade version of Windows 7 Home Premium, but I do not want to make the purchase only to realize later that I can not use it.
Really, I'm just looking for a solution. The only thing keeping me from buying Windows 7 OEM is the installation limits (can only install on one computer per license). When I get my new hard drive, I'd like to be able to use whatever version of Windows 7 that I own on it.

I have not been able to find a straight answer for. Is it legal to buy a pre-built computer store bought and remove the hard drive with windows 7 already on it and put it into a custom built computer? Does it even work? I was wondering because I don't want to pay 200+ dollars for just a hard drive and operating system. kinda ruins the whole idea of a "budget" build.

I have just finished my first build and everything was going fine until I tried to install Windows 7. I got through the first couple menus, then when I get to the part where I have to save the OS in a storage device, it does not detect my hard drive.
Specs:
Gigabyte Intel GA Z77X-U3H
Intel core i5 2500k
WD Caviar Black 1TB SATA 3 7200 rpm
Btw the HDD appears in the Bios.

My current system was upgraded to windows 7 32bit from vista 32bit (I bought the windows 7 home premium upgrade disc when it was first released). I am going to build a complete new system. Can I install windows 7 64bit from the same windows 7 disc? Or do I have to buy a new windows 7 disc? Is there a way around buying a whole new disc?

Ran into issues on build day 2 days ago with crashing driver issues etc. installing drivers was actinglike fliles were corrupt even off the disks.I replaced cables on drives, swapped the Bios for the SATA ports to mimic IDE, installed new version of windows with the Seagate not plugged in. Installed drivers for Mother Board rebooted to Bios swapped back from IDE on the SATA.Puts around a bit no real issues, installed the data drive rebooted and started to install software from steam and origin as well as Windows updates.BSOD a few times,Logged off ran memtest over night passed all 7 tests, ran again on each stick all passed.Windows is freezing trying to install all the updates that is the latest bsod in the log file.the 2tb drive is still uninstalled but seems stable. Not sure what is causing this, I did run CCleaner a few mins ago and it puked a ton of registery errors cleaned them up ran again found more, cleaned now it says it is clean. Here is the zip I am at wits end and do not want to RMA the Seagate if i dont have to but willing to if you all think that is my problem.

I am currently running OS 7 Beta RC Build 7100. Were do I get this newer version, is there a big difference? And am I able to upgrade to the newer Beta?
I realize that October is fast approaching for the RTM but I plan to keep running the Beta for a couple of months past the Grand Opening.
Is it possible that all the updates that I have received equally add up to the newer build?

I have a Asus G73jh that will not boot up. It was running super slow the other night so I shut it down and re booted. a screen promted me with something like "computer was unable to start, need to run repair" so i ran the repair and it timed out and told me i need to bring computer the the repair shop or something.
I unscrewed the back and noticed the Ram was not seated so I seated it and made sure HDD was seated and tried to reboot but now it just takes a very long time to boot and only get to the login screen but the login section where you enter password doesnt appear and only shows my wallpaper with very low resolution mouse cursor.
I tried to to boot in safe mode, does the same thing, I tried a system restore but wont let me, it just goes right to the blank login screen with low resolution. bad hard drive? bad ram? idk what to do its a $1700 laptop out of warranty.

My sons laptop won't boot up (only 6 weeks old). When it tries to boot up a screen pops up that says the computer did not shut down properly and do we want to start-up in safe mode. It has three safe mode options and a start-up in normal mode. We have tried start-up in all possible modes at this point and in all cases it will not get past the Windows logo...just stays on a black screen after the windows logo is shown. We have had the store where we bought it run a diagnostic and they say hardware is fine so must be operating system. if there is an override or way we can restart the operating system?

I just got a brand new asus cm6730 desktop pc. It comes with Windows 7, predictably.I started it up, as the instructions were fairly simple. Upon doing so, I got a black screen for an unimaginably long time. It was supposed to take only a few minutes. It was close to 30 minutes.I restarted the computer to see what was wrong and went to the safe mode terminal to see if anything popped up. Indeed. After it loaded a bunch of packages, it prompted me to restart to continue with installation.

I'm trying to install either the 32bit and 64bit version of Windows 7 Home Premium via DVD onto my system. I am booting from the DVD and setup automicatically runs. The Windows 7 setup GUI loads and it allows me to choose the language settings and then I get a prompt for,
LOAD DRIVER
"A Required CD/DVD device driver is missing...."
My System is
ASUS A8N-SLI Deluxe motherboard
AMD Athlon 64FX-55
3GB RAM
ASUS DRW-1814BLT DVD-RW drive (SATA)
2 x Hitachi Deskstar 250GB HDD in Serial ATA RAID 0
I have tried multiple drivers but there is nothing on the ASUS website for the DRW-1814BLT only a firmware upgrade which I have done.
This is extremely frustrating as both the motherboard and DVD-RW driver are from ASUS but there doesn't seem to be any support for Windows 7 on the download site.
My system passes the Windows 7 upgrade Advisor Report

My netbook froze on friday night. Try to restart, but was stuck at grey screen. It has asus logo and eee pc written. The options f2 to run setup and tab to display bios post yields nothing. In other words, pressing either button doesn't work. I have removed the battery, pressed the power button without the power cord, put everything back in, tapping f2. So far, no progress. Few times, i try pressing f2 similtaneously as i hit the power button, i got american megatrends screens. Still, none go further. I have this netbook for a little over a year. The warranty just expired a month ago. It is running window 7 starter already installed when i got it at bestbuy. I had contacted asus support, and tried some i mentioned above. I prefer to do this by myself.
