I am still pretty ignorant at using Windows 7 features. I was under the impression that Windows 7 allows the user to have 2 different windows open on the desktop and can work from one to the other like with Apple...so far I haven't found the way to do it
View 4 RepliesWhen win 7 open up, what I see on my single display is a desktop screen of a tipical secondary display that would be placed on the right of the main screen.
I go into desktop properties and I see that win7 detect and show 2 screens as if I had a dual screen setup. But I only have one 24" screen. I always need to ask win7 to "detect" the screens again, then it automaticly delete the second "non-existent" screen.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI was surfing the net this morning and in the background i was installing "Logmein". I assume the website i got it off is legit as many of my friends have it installed it to play networked games. This is the website i downloaded it from [URL] Whilst it was installing my laptop froze and ctrl + alt + del wouldn't work so i turned it off by holding down the power button and then turned it back on. It now loads up a screen that says "Windows error recovery" and has an option to "Launch Startup Repair" or "Start windows normally" . whichever one i select the outcome is the same... a screen that says "windows is loading files..." followed by a blank login screen with only the cursor for company as shown in the image below: [URL]
I have no idea what to do and this is the first real problem i haven't been able to solve in the 2 years ive had it.
I have tried every option in the "Advanced Boot Options" (F8 on startup) menu in the hope that something different would happen but every single time is identical to the last. I am running windows 7 premium x64 bit on the Sony Vaio VGN-NW20SF. My laptop didn't come with a windows 7 disk so i cant reformat it. I havent backed it up for a while and there are files i would like to keep if possible.
Ok my question is if we could open CMD.exe (as a administrator) at the start up screen or log on screen?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI want to switch my graphic (I have dual graphic one is intel and one is ATI mobility Radeon), I click okay to switch to power saving graphic intel, and so the screen blacks out. It never respond after black out, I made hard restart and screen freeze at the win 7 icon. No lucky, I hard press again and start up to ask me if I want to scan for my previous startup problem, I did and it tried fixing the problem til next morning. No luck, give me a choice of to do a HP recovery or system recovery, some how I must have accidentally click on HP recovery and preceded to click through all the warnings, til it was at 1% then I realized that it was going to delete all my DATA!Well, I was still very sleepy when I decided to terminate that recovery...by power shut down.So power up: "BOOTMGR is Missing Press Crtl-Alt-Del to restart"I went through F11 system recovery to try and see if I can still recover, but no luck, later i tried some steps in cmd window:

got error says I have zero OS installed!

I tried burning a win7 ultimate iso to a DVD and try boot from there but it says no OS system found.My computer is HP touchsmart with switchable graphic, HP has a recovery partition that can restore my computer but I don't know how to access it now. My original system is win 7 home premium 64x, but all I have at my disposal is a copy of win 7 ultimate 64x.Some specs of my computer: HP touchsmart with switchable graphic, intel i5 and ATI mobility Only has one OS: Windows 7 Home premium 64x Has HP recovery partition, and 300GB of other space.have this InsydeH20 Setup Utility Rev. 3.5 and currently all I can do is do some random scans.. Primary hard disk self test, and then memory test, I don't expect to see any problems since I have this done with in the HP system recovery environment.
When I'm minimizing a full screen video-game, I can't re-open it. This problem appear on all my video game but not with my Internet browser or other programs who are not full screen. I have not changed anything on my computer and this problem has appeared today. I tried ALT - TAB and it doesn't work too. Each time I'm minimizing my full screen game to check my desktop or something... I need to close completely et re-start it.

When I go into task manager it says that they are continually running and I need to end task. This still won't allow me to access them. It also happens on folders from a USB stick or when I go into computer with start main menus also. I am pretty sure it is Windows 7 I am using.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a fairly new HP Desktop PC. I'm running Windows 7 Home 64-bit SP1. Yesterday I noticed that iTunes won't open when I double-click on the shortcut icon on my desktop. I restarted my computer, same issue. I restarted in Safe Mode, same issueI did notuninstall/reinstall because I also can't open my Spybot-SD. Same thing happens. The process is listed in Task Manager, but the programs just don't open. I have not trieduninstalling/reinstalling the programs because I tried doing a System Restore back to early February. The System Restore was successful but the problem persists. Also, Windows Media Player opens, but it opens weird, wherein it freezes on a white square for a few minutes before finally loading. Also, my DVD burning software, DVD Flick, opens but first it freezes on a yellow square.
It's hard to Google this problem because of all the programs involved, and I'm sure there are more programs that won't open that I'm just not aware of yet. I didn't do anything that I can think of that could've caused the problem (and if I had, the system restore would've fixed it). So I scanned my PC for viruses with Symantec and I also scanned for malware with Microsoft Security Essentials and both scans came up clean. Not being able to use iTunes presents a problem because I can't update my phone or make changes to my phone at all.
My girlfriend recently lent me her laptop (Windows 7 32bit) it was still using IE so when I go to install chrome the built in 'security program' (Windows 7 internet security 2011 or something like that) tells me that chrome is a threat and wont let me use it.. Now after finding out that Windows 7 internet security 2011 is a joke and just wants my money I run spybot search and destroy, it finds plenty of viruses and such like which are all removed.Now I have the strange problem...When I try to run any program or file the 'open this file with' window comes up. With some programs I can browse the program files and locate the program, select open with (I can't select 'always use the selected program') and away we go, but with others it simply doesn't open or will open the program in the background (unusable) and give me the 'open with' window again.. I have tried putting the Malwarebytes installer on USB but the laptop still gives me the 'open with' window when I try to install that

View 1 Replies View RelatedIm having a problem with opening files I use to open with two programs. One is mkv, vob and divx files with homecinema. And snes roms with an emulator. Basically win 7 would let me select the program and it would show up on the list of programs to use. I would select always use and I'm done. But I moved the folders containing the files to a different folder and now my two programs I use will not show up in the open with list. I now have to go to the program itself and search for the files. Its a pain because I could click on the files and get right to them.

When he attempts to open an application (any application) it opens an "Open With" window with only IE 8 and Word Pad as the only recommended programs.He's figured a PITA work around by right clicking the application icon and selecting "Run as Administrator" and then it opens after clicking through the security window. My initial thought was that his account was somehow changed from an Administrator account to a standard account, but that proved incorrect.I'm thinking it's some virus or malware that's causing this, but I see no other apparent signs of infection (i.e. degradation in performance) and he is protected by a current Antivirus (Eset), so I'm also thinking there may be some corruption of his system files, but like I said, I'm a novice where Windows 7 is concerned.
