May 29, 2008I notice after complete start up is my hard disk work something for a long time[approx. 1 to 1.5 minutes],but i can do my work without any problem.

Start-Up Repair Not Work, No Boot
Jul 29, 2009I have an Acer Extensa laptop with Windows Vista Home Premium installed. Its been working great for over a year now untill yesterday when all of a sudden it wouldn't boot up properly. It continued to go to start-up repair, but that kept on failing. After trying all other tools, (system restore had no restore points for some odd reason)... I tried safe mode. That did not work. It instead went back to the start-up repair screen. The same warning message popped up everytime it failed "Cannot repair automatically, click finish blah blah blah". When I bought this laptop from Best Buy, I did not recieve any type of Disk for Vista, it was already loaded on there... I would rather not do a clean install.

Apr 10, 2009I redirected my Documents folder to my home drive, and it worked for a month or so. Somehow I lost access to that drive, and although it was corrected fairly quickly, now when I click on the Documents link under the Start Menu, nothing happens. No error, it just doesn't open. When I right click the Start Menu Documents icon and go to Properties, there is no information listed there. It is just all blank showing 0 bytes.
When I go to my profile, it shows a regular folder for Documents, not the fancy new Documents icon used in Vista. When I open this folder it opens my local Documents directory, but there is nothing there (since everything was being kept on the network drive). When I right-click this folder, it opens and the location on the local drive C:usersame, and it has the following tabs: General, Sharing, Security, Previous Versions, and Customize. The Location tab is missing so I can't redirect the folder back to the network drive. I did go to the Start Menu properties and remove, then add back the Documents link, but that didn't help. I enabled and disabled User Access Control and that didn't help. I even did a System Restore of the system to last week before this problem started,
Keyboard Doesnt' Work On Start Up
Aug 16, 2008Last night I was installing Worms 4, it told me I had to restart my PC after the installation, so I do, but when I restart I get a screen right after the boot menu that says it cannot "verify digital signature of this file." (sfsync02.sys) It then says at the bottom to hit either enter or esc, which would be great, except that my keyboard doesn't want to work on start up. It's always done this. It works fine once Windows has started (but I can't get it to start because I can't get past this screen), and it also works in the BIOS (but not the boot menu, or any of the other screens)
The error told me to repair the problem via my windows vista disc, which I tried, but it still takes me to the same screen and does not boot the vista disc in my disc drive. I've read elsewhere that particular file has to do with preventing copy right infringement on games, but it was a legit copy of the game, so what gives? Oh my keyboard plugs into the KB port and is not USB.

May 2, 2009Office 07 shortcuts from the start menu no longer work. Nothing happens when you click on them - the start menu stays open. Also, the icons of the shortcuts have turned into just a paper icon.
I should also note that even the icons on the documents have changed. Though, when I double click on documents, they still open the corresponding program. Another way I can open the programs is by going into the Program Files. I have searched with Google with only a handful of people having my problem, though their thread isn't answered.
FDisk Command Doesn't Work From A Command Line Start
Mar 12, 2009I am writing to this Forum in desperation because I cannot find any way to get in touch by email with Windows Live OneCare even though I am a paid subscriber. I have NOT had a good experience of MS tech support. After 18 months of endless problems with Windows VISTA Ultimate Edition V 6001 I now wish to reformat my computer and get RID of it altogether, replacing it with System 7 for which I have a serial number and a beta download from the recent Microsoft online download offer.
As VISTA seems to have eleminated DOS altogether and the old FDisk command doesn't work from a command line start, I have tried to reformat from my OEM Vista Ultimate Edition re-installation DVD which I am certain used to offer me reformat and partitioin delete as the first options but that no longer seems to offer me any reformat option at all and not only instists only on re-installing VISTA (which I no longer want) but leaves the old installation in a directory renamed "WindowsOld" which VISTA will then not allow me to delete....
Start Computer Get Nothing No Icons Start Menu
May 11, 2008when i start my computer i get nothing no icons start menu or anything but i do get a my documents window and from there i have to ctrl alt delete then go to file run and run explorer does anyone know how to make it to where i dont have to do all that stuff to run explorer basically does anyone know how to make it where when i start my computer it is normal with explorer running?

Jul 1, 2008I have been wracking my brain for weeks now, trying to play C&C First Decade with Red Alert 2 Yuri's Revenge over the LAN, it will only run on IPX networking which I could setup with 2x XP machines, I have Vista Ultimate on my PC, and XP on another, I found some drivers for IPX to work on Vista, didn't work ... So I loaded Hamachi which had built-in IPX support. Now when I open RA2, it no longer says IPX unavailable, it shows 00 00 00...
So it can see my Hamachi adapter with IPX support, great! The other XP machine has Hamachi installed, and they are both VPN'd (Connected) on the same Hamachi Network. They don't see each other... The XP machine shows a few IPX networks, I have tried switching to them all, even put the Hamachi adapter and the LAN adapter to the top of the preferred networks list. This was sort-of a breeze with both XP, but with Vista it's looking to be a bit tricky. I have no firewalls running on either machine and I am pretty cluey when it comes to networking (TCP/IP that is).
Speakers Work But Headphones Dosent Work

Software Doesn't Work, "Windows Hostprocess Doesn't Work"
Apr 21, 2009I have had Windows Vista 64 for 2 Months now and of that period of time it worked soundly for about 2 Weeks. I am NOT an irresponsible User, I don't just delete Data, I know a little something about computing, I don't visit or download from dubious sites etc.
1) Without any reason software suddently doesn't work.
a) I installed a Antivirussoftware - after 3 Weeks it suddently didn't work any more (Kaspersky) I couldn't reinstall it.
b) I installed a new Antivirussoftware - after 5 days it didn't work anymore.
c) 4 days later I started to get errormessages "Windows Defender doesn't work any more" - "Windows Hostprocess doesn't work anymore"
Won't Start
Dec 20, 2008I started up my computer and it would show the moving loading bar thing and then it would boot up again in a cycle. I tried to use the command prompt to fix the boot loader. After that, the computer would not load up the opening page with the user accounts and stuff. All it showed was a black screen with a mouse (which i could move). Even more surprising is that the recovery hard drive won't boot up either and the recovery disks don't work either. I tried system restore and it told me that there were no recovery points made.

Dec 29, 2008Ive got a problem with my PC. My OS is Vista ultimumate x 64. At the moment I am on holiday with my family and i cant start my pc. Unfortunately i dont have my disc with installation so i cant reboot and repair my system. I was playing a game and my computer just switched off. When you turn it on it makes strange noises. Three sounds. One long and two short. Then it gives me option to repair it through instalation cd or start computer normaly. If you press to start it normaly it just simply does the same thing all over again. Weid sounds and keep restating. I realy need to use my pc.

Mar 31, 2008My Vista won't start. x64 with service pack 1 I was defragging the hard disk when it suddenly stopped. Rebooting windows normally and it keeps crashing once the log on screen appears. Tried the safe basic safe mode which loads, but the safe mode with networking and command promopt options do not load - windows stops. Jun 6, 2009Been having a monitor issue lately ever since I installed SP2 for Vista 64bit. Sometimes when I turn the PC on the monitor goes into immeadiate sleepode (the power button blinks). I don;t even see the BIOS boot screen....nothing...just black.
I sometimes can hear windows loading but nothing is on the screen. At other times I don't hear Windows loading at all.
I'm thinking it's a BIOS problem or maybe even a MB problem.
I would appreciate some help on this. I've never had this problem before SP2
Weirdness continues....managed to get some sort of display happening only to be told my windows system files are corrupted and that I need to do a repair...which I am doing now after several attempts to get the BIOS to boot from the DVD drive
Well I bit the bullet and restarted the PC...dissapointed to say that it's didn;t work.
It seems like the BIOS isn;t loding any basic video nor is windows.
Sometimes it just doesn;t even seem to be booting into BIOS at all.

There's 20GB free on the System disk (System Restore is enabled - there is ONE restore point!), so why only one restore point available?.......

Mar 26, 2009I've been going crazy on this machine. It was brought to me by someone who thought they had some "RedDwarf" virus. So I took a look at the machine. Could not find any bugs spyware, virus or worms on the machine. I was able to locate in the event log, that when they were trying to use thier 2wire installation disk because they could not get online, a RedDwarf program listed as being part of Motive Software... I belive they do the programming for 2Wire. Anyway.... it was installed in compatiblity mode... after rebooting the machine.. this is what happens...
When booting normally to the desktop.. desktop loads, AIM loads, no network of any kind. Only a handfull of services start RPC, COM+, DCOM, SENS, GroupPolicy, User Profile, Software Licensing, and a few more... and I mean a few. No other services will start on the computer. I have used system restore going back almost 2 months with the same effect. I can only get........

Jul 19, 2008The computer(hp m9150f) just won't start up. I've tried running CHKDSK and startup repair but I keep getting an error message saying that it was unable to fix it. Let me just say that the computer with the problem is not mine but my family's. I rarely use it, so I don't know what they might have done to it. They told me they had some important files inside the computer so they don't want me to do an hp system restore before they saved the files. So, what I've came up with is to do a vista upgrade first, so then they'd have access to their files. Then I would use the hp system restore to restore everything back to the normal. Can anybody here tell me if this would work and also if there's any other way to fix it?

Feb 1, 2009I am running Vista Home Premium on a system that has been stable for some time. Recently I discovered that when I attempt to log into my account it 'opens' to a black screen with only a movable cursor, nothing else. However, my wife's account continues to work normally I would have presumed a Windows update, virus, trojan, spyware, etc., would also affect my wife's account.
I have confirmed the registry key for the Shell is set to 'explorer.exe'. When I open Task Manager explorer.exe is not running. If I attempt to launch explorer.exe via New Task it will not start. I can access my account if I boot in Safe Mode. I have tried MSCONFIG and tried booting with no Startup programs and no Services with no change, still no explorer. System Restore has no restore points prior to 12/22/08 but that's not far enough back to correct the problem. Am I missing anything else I can try to repair this problem, or am I going to have to launch the install CD to try to repair this?
