Vista Games Exploere Not Working

could a 'friends' system be included into the vista games explorer? So i could see what games, servers etc my mates r playing on as well as a chat system? I have Vista SP1 installed on my laptop and recently some of the games I like to play will no longer work and new ones also.The game specs say that they are Vista compatible so why won't they work on my computer? Any steps I can take to resolve this? I haven't installed SP2 as yet, or IE8 because of all the problems I've read about them so am waiting on those.

I've tried everything to get my games to run smoothly on Vista, and nothing seems to work very well. Its not so much as my computer sucks, cause when I downgraded to XP, just to try it out, my games were running perfectly smooth. And don't say, "Just stick with XP then!" cause I love Vista in its many other ways.
The only reason I can come up with as to why my games run much slower on Vista is because Vista is a DirectX10 supported OS, but has a DirectX9 "emulator". And since all my games, and video card are DX9 compatible, it runs in the emulated mode. Now we all know running emulators makes our computers run a bit slower, so thats the only solution I can come up with.
Well I know alot of others have had this problem, and Microsoft knows its a problem, so they have said, and I've been told that Vista SP1 would fix that. Well I downloaded SP1 RC Refresh, yet nothing seems to have changed at all...
So heres my questions - Do you guys feel that because its a DX10 supported OS, and im running DX9 software/hardware, that thats a reason why my games run slower? Also what do you guys think on Vista SP1 RC Refresh?

I have A couple of games installed on my Laptop. that have Stopped working. One has always stopped working as soon as I launch it. it is called: F.E.A.R Combat But the Other game I like and has worked fine up utill today is called: Project Torque. The error message I am met with is this: "Game has stopped working, A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if there is a solution available?

Gears of war for PC is not working, even with the patch, the hot fixes, the latest drivers, and many different tricks. Please microsoft, epic games or whoever that can help; check this problem. The game still crashes, this part of my computer dxdiag report

so last week or so I was cleaning up my msconfig startup options, removing the third-party programs that sometimes likes to start up with Windows. After this and doing a restart to make sure I had disabled the stuff I wanted, I noticed that Aero and alt-tab wasn't working. This didn't worry me a bit since I just thought that I might have disabled some of the needed files for my nVidia graphics card - so I went to their website and downloaded the latest driver. After installing it and restarting it, it didn't help - then I noticed that Personalize (From the right-click menu on the desktop) didn't work either. So I went to the control panel, only to find that it wasn't working either (and the menu in my Start-menu was empty of entries in the Control Panel selection).
So this week I decide to do a bit of digging around on the internet to see if other people have encountered similar problems and I find that some have had problems with drivers (mostly ati, nvidia and intel graphics drivers) messing up the licensing service of Windows Vista. So I completely removed the graphics drivers of my nvidia card and installed them again - no success. So now I'm left with the problem that the licensing service (and the messaging service that's linked to the licensing service) aren't working - or I should say, the licensing service starts like it should, but the licensing messaging service doesn't and that's (apparently what's causing my problems, since Vista thinks it's now an expired trial license, and thus it has disabled the features, like it's supposed to - or that's what I can piece together, at least). Thus, I'm asking if anyone knows of a solution to this problem that doesn't involve me reinstalling Windows Vista as this is a rather tedious task I don't want to have to do (since I'm triple-booting on OSX and FreeBSD and using Windows boot manager to do so)..

I have just recently installed aoe2 conq expansion, and I am trying to play it online again. But I need to update the game, and everytime I attempt to do it, it tells me I do not have the retail copy of the game installed, yet i have the discs sitting infront of me. I have tried running the patch in administrative rights, and tried running it under windows xp sp2 installation type, neither have worked. I have reinstalled the game multiple times, with no success.

Are any or all of these games MP only? if not, and the SP Campaigns can also be played... which one do you suggest I pick up? Are there more than 1? Sorry, tried to google this but it is a bit confusing. I saw the trailer of the new OF:RS coming out in Oct and I think is going to be the kind of game I would probably like to buy... very enticing to say the least. Of course, for me the motto is:, No demo, No sale. Ubisoft has made me a Non-Believer, or smarter... whichever one you like

i bought a new rig a few months back and got me some vista to let my memory be of full use. i played cod4 and age of conan just fine. but then my friend wanted me to come back and play some cs 1.6. i said ok ill own you a few times , i downloaded steam (i had an account that had cs on it) and then dowloaded cs from steam. now i was ready for some action , i enter the game and then when i got on a server and was on it for a few seconds it just well exitied (dont know if thats a word ). no error message no nothing it just fell down .. is this meh vista? because i played it fine on xp with my last computer. (o and yeh i dont want to just change back to xp )and heres my rig ...

Last night my Vista Ultimate x64 said there was 1 available update. This update was SP2 for Vista.
So I let it install. After the PC rebooted SP2 was installed, but, none of my games worked. Call Of Duty WAW, Call Of Duty 4, Prototype, Overlord, bionic commander each one of these games started to boot and then either shows me a blank screen, or crashes to desktop.
I found that there was later versions of my graphics card and my sound card so I updated both of these. It made no difference. I then uninstalled and re-installed Bionic Commander. Again no difference this game didn't work.

When trying to launch games that run in full-screen it starts up, then minimize itself, leading me back to the desktop.It still runs in the background apparently, but it will minimize right back down when I click it again. No error message at all. It used to work fine until about a month ago. I have no idea what caused this and how to fix it.

I have encountered a new problem. My graphics card is a Nvidia GeForce GTX 260 1792 MB. I keep getting a problem with the screen when I play "trackmania" it's like some of the text and texture is blurry. Weird thing is I don't have any problems with other games like Fallout 3 or Call of duty 4-5 and so on. Those games I play with highest settings and no fuzz with the texture there. I have been mixing around with the nvidia control panelt lately and tried a lot of stuff but nothing worked. My current setting is "let the program decide 3D settings"I run vista 64 bit and intel i7 950 with 6GB ram.

So when I first bought my Gateway laptop it came with Vista premium, and sure it looked all nice and shinny, but once I tried to install my games and play them I got punched in the face by Microsoft. I got horrible frame rate with ALL my video games. Of course I researched if my games were compatible with Vista.
I know its Vista that makes my games run like crap cause just a month ago I installed XP on my top and got perfect frame rate with all my games. The only reason I went back to Vista is because I couldn't find all the proper drivers for my laptop with XP since its built and only supports Vista. It makes me cry a little inside cause my girlfriend has a Gateway laptop with worse system specs, yet she gets alot higher frame rate cause she uses XP, QQ.
So now comes to my topic; After all the research I did and tricks I tried to improve performance I heard, this was months ago btw, that there wa a service pack coming to Vista that would improve performance. So after hearing that and getting all hyped up I waited and waited... So now we come to today. I just installed SP1 and was kinda excited!

For all those detractors out there who believe Vista is rubbish for older games, and in particular Vista x64, I'd like to present some evidence to the contrary, in the form of a blast from the past. 1995 to be exact.I've recently re-aquired an original Diablo 1 (what can I say - I'm a Diablo fan), and figured because I was using Vista Ultimate x64, I'd have to run it in Windows XP under Microsoft Virtual PC 2007. However, when I got home from work this afternoon, I inserted the disk and allowed the autoplay to run.
The game installed without problems. Although I must mention that I changes the install path from "C:Program Files (x86)Diablo" to "C:GamesDiablo". And it played! To top it off, it even showed up in the Vista Games Explorer. This has surely got to be the oldest game I know of that has installed without any issues whatsoever onto Vista x64, and does not even need to have any compatibility mode settings manually changed! Here are two screenshots that shows the following information: That I am using Vista x64 Diablo 1 displays in the Game Explorer Diablo 1 runs without any Compatibility Mode settings! A view of the game in action, with a newly created character This is truly a testament to the compatibility of Windows Vista x64, and the quality of games produced by Blizzard!

just got some games loaded and I used to have ATITray Tools which would let you keep the frame rate and temps in the corner during game play, anything like that for Nvidia? Just ran Quake4 at full specs and had Nvidia performance control panel turn the fan to 90%... but would like to monitor the temps and frame rates on this and other games. 9800GT 1GB. ( as soon as the new card arrives.... back to ATI tools.

I have Windows Vista Premuim Home edition SP2. Where can I find the folder that contains all the programs that are supposed to start when Windows boots? I want to add a program to the list so it loads at bootup. Wiyhin the program (Secunia), I checked off the box that should enable the program to do this - but it isn't working. Therefore, I can just put a copy of the executable in the Startup folder (if I could find it).

I installed windows 7 beta and was so thrilled. But i do miss vista and wanted to do a dual boot. Little did i realize that when i upgraded, i also changed over the whole OS. Now i have nothing i can do! Im soooo damn stupid!!!! I have no CD and dell refuses to send me one. My PC recovery tool doesnt work since i updated the os. And i dont have a DVD that i can burn the info to tongiht and cant get to a store to get one for a week or so(parents are out of town and im 16) I have a legally bought (from dell with my computer) key code for windows home premium. I am familiar with torrent downloads and was thinking i could download the install info but i dont know how to run it.

When i had XP on my computer everything was working fine. I did an overlay of Vista and now any audio device with a jack won't work.. My USB headphones do... I have gone through all the playback settings, searched through all of control panel to do with sound. I have downloaded the necessary realtek drivers (High Definition Audio Device) and nothing. I have also tried plugging the jack in the front instead of the back. The speakers work on any XP machine... just having troubles with my vista machine.
