I am the sole user on a standalone HP PC, which runs on Vista Home Premium. I found a new user called IUSR_NMPR on my PC whom I did not put there and I do not know. Is it a system set-up user or an intruder? Is it safe to delete it?

View 7 Replies View RelatedI have been having this problem for a while now. Under any file I download or any shortcut I make under security is a User with no name. This is what it says: Account Unknown (S-1-5-21-3555475015-4039561939-2811441107-1002). This has been concerning me because I’ve noticed that any file with this in security can’t be removed by anything but the Recycle Bin, which I find interesting, I usually use a file shredder for any file I want to delete, but I can’t. So my question is how do I delete this user name… with no name?

I have deleted this name already through User Accounts in the Control Panel, but the file still remains on the hard-drive. Windows doesn't allow me to delete it for some reason
View 6 Replies View RelatedDue to HDD failure. THEY rebuilt it under the name of RoB Davies, NOT even my name of RoD Davies, and in any event it should have been under my wife's name. So I am apparently the defualt user. I created an Admin user under wife's name of Lenore, added a Folder under her name in the Users Folder, but can I delete the ROB Davies User?
There are the folders under RoB Davies of Contacts, Music, Pictures, Downoads, Videos, Searches etc. Even though I copied all these folders to my Wifes User Folder, and despite there being nothiing in any of these folders as its a brand new built PC, RoB Davies User folders are over 1GB in size, and my wifes about 20KB in total, so there are hidden system files in my incorrectly 'built' user folder...right? But Can I delete the Rob Davies folder?
I made a user account a while back for the family members that always get on my computer so that they didnt mess with anything on my account. Why i didnt just use guest side im still not sure. I want to delete this account and turn on guest but it will not let me do anything with it. I have tried changing it to standard and deleting and nothing. I went into safe mode and tried to delete it and still nothing. Turned on the built in administrator account and still nothing. Im tired of them being able to change setting and things on the other side and i can not do anything about it,
View 8 Replies View RelatedI am listed as the Administrator on my laptop. After my Dad gave me this PC after having it and registering in his name, I renamed the Administrator from his name to mine. When I go under User Accounts, I am the only user listed. However, when I boot my computer, my Dad's log in information is listed first and it starts up automatically saying "Username or password is invalid" and then I have the click "Switch User" to log in under myself. I have tried to delete User Account in Safe Mode, but that did not work either. How can I delete this account so I may start up my computer with just my login information??

When I use CCleaner it deletes user name and password so then I have to re enter those items. The box for Autocomplete form history in CCleaner is greyed out but unchecked and in IE8/tools/contents/autocomplete settings all boxes are checked excepts feeds.

The irritating pop-ups everytime I want to do something (like access user controls, delete a folder, etc.) that want confirmation. Unfortunately I purchased this comptuer with Vista Home installed. Is there a way to just install XP Home back on this thing? I have tried with the XP Home CD and it appears that it will not allow the system to be rolled back.

Now I have a new user as administrator and the previous users are gone. I still see evidence of them in the file tree but the old programs are gone and the documents are buried in C > Users > Admin (that was a name of a previous user that I had named when I first got the machine) I've gradually installed some of my old programs and I'm currently
just rebuilding everything, but it would be a lot easier if I could revert to the old user system. The Control Panel > add or remove user accounts is useless. I only have two icons there So is there anyway to return to the original condition? How can I recover the missing users?
Received my computer back yesterday from HP with reinstalled clean version of Vista Home Premium. It came back with a user name of 'test'. I attempted to change the name to my name "Bob Lafayette" and the user name in task manager under user shows up as "BOBLAFAYETTE est". In System Information the user name shows as BOBLAFAYETTE est
In user profiles the administrator shows as Bob Lafayette. The computer name shows as "BobLafayette." Computer description shows as "Bob's Computer." How can I amend the user name in task manager to reflect solely "BobLafayette"? Without the "test"?

View 9 Replies View RelatedI've tried and tried, please I hope you can help me. I have a Toshiba A215-4817 laptop with Vista Home Premium 32bit. My troubles began when my cd/dvd was not operating properly. Toshiba support said my operating system was corrupt. I didn't believe that just because the cd/dvd wasn't working properly that the os is corrupt, maybe they were right.
I have extremely important info on my hd as I do taxes for a living.
In an effort to trouble shoot the cd/dvd I booted into safe mode. No-one tole me that the administrator account is disabled by default! So now I can't get out of safe mode. I have access to only my limited user account and uac is enabled. System restore doesn't change boot options.
I can't edit registry = access denied, cmd.exe when trying to activate administrator account = system error 5.
I have Vista Home Premium 32-bit. Is it safe to install SP2 yet? I scanned the first six pages of posts, and there was no mention of SP2. So it looks as if there are no problems

View 9 Replies View RelatedI had an issue with one of my games and it directed me to go into safe mode to uninstall it. Now that it's uninstalled, I can't get out of safe mode. I've been through this forum in and out. I've done nearly all the things that it has stated that come close to my issue. I'm still in here. I've been in and out for 3 hours now. I've gone through the msconfig, and told it to restart in normal mode, I'm still in safe mode. I've used the F8 button while starting it, and told it to go to safe mode, I'm still here. I've even checked to see if it was the resolution, I've set it to my default settings of 1280x720, and restart it, it's still in safe mode. I've done EVERYTHING that I can think of.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI press f5 or is it f8. but either way I get to the Safe Mood Selection screen and no matter what option I select, Safe Mode or Safe Mode with Prompts, of Safe Mood with Network support, it doesn't matter it boots normal to my user sign in screen and then it freezes.. no mouse or keyboard functions... If I run the recovery disk and tool options then mouse and keyboard work but I still cannot boot up in safe mode nor can I boot up normal.. I just need to get into safe mode and then I believe I can resolve this but since I can't get into safe mode I don't know what else to do?
View 9 Replies View RelatedThe svchost seems to be spiking my physical memory at startup to around 80%.. and it only drops to around 75% And i also know that my computer cannot run to about 93-98% on memory because i suspect Faulty ram from previous problems of mine.( I will be replacing it with 4gb in 1to 2 weeks) Also after disabling Pc tools threatfire & Pc tools firewall i seem to be getting alot of processes which are also playing with my phiscal memory %. b4 i uninstalled The pc tools programs there was only 2-3 svchosts.exe now there are about 13 of them..

View 9 Replies View RelatedI can say is I changed trend to do a real good cleaning of all of folders etc. When I got the safe mode I found trend was doinmg a scan so I stopped it and then it said close and stop safe mode which I did. I also deleted trend to. I m really bad I dont know what I did. I use that I had brain surgery and I m just dah sometimes.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a new motherboard (abit nh-m2sv), X2 +3800 processor, 2 gig pc4200 memory ATI graphics, DVD RW, Maxtor SATA drive, all are suppose to be Vista ready, but vista either won't install, or installs with BSOD's then will only run in Safe Mode.
I have tried Home Basic and premium, the same issue, I install my old faitful XP and it goes straight in. I have run memtest, all fine, I have removed the gfx card, no change, I have tried an IDE hdd rather than a SATA no change.
Vista will not boot into Safe mode or Normally. The mouse pointer sits on the screen and can be moved but the logon screen does not appear. When I go into startup repair it says it "Could not detect a problem". I have run a chkdsk /f which ran clean. What else can I try to make the logon screen appear?

I have a dell laptop with Vista factory installed. The other day is stopped booting and it can not repair itself. I am attempting to get into safe mode to check a few things out. However pressing or holding F8 while rebooting does not work for me. I have tried about 50 times.
