Upgrade Hp32 To Ultimate64: Not Provide 64-bit Media

I want to upgrade to Vista Ultimate 64-bit. I'm a techie and realize that this requires a complete re-install (which I'm quite comfortable doing). The manufacturer (gateway) did not provide the anytime upgrade CD. Gateway will not provide 64-bit media. The technical (re-install) part of this task easy. The challenge is figuring out what to buy, how to buy it, and where to buy it from (without paying an arm and a leg for the full retail version).
My god Microsoft, can you make this upgrade any more obtuse and confusing? There appears to be a $159 upgrade available from Home Premium to Ultimate, but I cannot find concise information about how to buy it and whether this upgrade applies to a 32-bit OEM installation. Some sites suggest that this upgrade only applies to the the Retail version, not the OEM version, but it's not clear. [Unfortunately, now I can't find the link to the $159 upgrade offer, but it's somewhere on Microsoft's site.] Do I need both the Anytime Upgrade disk and 64-bit media?

A friend of mine has been complaining that a notebook of his didn't come with an OEM recovery disc, but instead had a program to use to create the disc. The company is Toshiba. I was wondering, are computer manufacturers required by the M$ licensing laws to provide the media, or are they allowed to just install a program to create the media?
As the subject says. I've got 2 desktops running Ultimate 64 and for the life of me I can't format or copy files to them at all. I've scoured the net for a solution and tried a few but nothing has worked. I now have a laptop with Home Premium 32bit and it works just fine! Both of the desktops have HP DVD burners that support the CD-RW format but they will not work. I've also tried DVDs and they will also not work. Anyone else run into this problem, and more importantly, found a solution?
When I was running XP Pro my printer driver allowed me to see my ink levels. When I moved to Vista the old driver no longer worked and the Vista driver did not provide any capability for monitoring ink levels. Does anyone know of a utility that would allow me to see the ink levels in a HP g95 all-in-one printer under the Vista OS?
It's easy - and you need install Windows only once. Basically two little things one must do - a regedit and a commandline command. First install Windows clean with the upgrade disc BUT during the install routine DO NOT type in the Product Key and DESELECT the Automatically activate when online checkbox. I want to reinstall it but don't want 2 partitions if i don't need them. xp was backed up along with other program that came with the computer at time of purchase on partition D: FAT32 my question is do i need this or is it safe now for me to delete it via computer management I want to run my computer partition free.

My old Windows XP PC died months ago (motherboard problems) and so I took out the hard drive (which still functions fine) and put it in my new PC, but I can't seem to copy any of my files in the My Documents folder from the old drive to my newer larger drive. I've had this drive in here for the last several months and have had no problems writing other files to this 'older' drive (250 gig Maxtor 16mb cache, 7,200RPM drive (btw it's only a year old), but when I try to copy files to another drive I get the following error message: "You'll need to provide administrator permission to copy to this file." This only happens with files that are in the My Documents folder. My current login has administrator rights, so I'm thinking some how this has something to do with this drive being from a different computer's installation of XP.
Media center keeps popping up, I have not been able to find a way to disable it, so that I can use the program only when I want. It is very tiresome to keep have it. open when ever I pop a cd or dvd in to my drive. I would like some control over which program I use to view/listen to the media I have, and not have one pop up automatically.
I'm new to vista and i'm just wondering...just media center require media player to work? If not is it possible to remove wmp11? On that note, is it also possible to remove IE7? As I am a devoted Firefox user

I have a Aspire AM5620-E5301A Acer computer. On Acer it has Windows Vista Premium Home. I bought Windows Ultimate software to put on my Acer computer. It starts to load up OK, put in the key number in than next step is. To pick custom install or upgrade install, but upgrade choice is grey out. It is disable from using the upgrade choice, I want to choose to pick. I did not purchase Windows Ultimate through Acer anytime upgrade option. It was a store bought software it was cheaper than Acer price they offer. What is the problem with installing Ultimate with Acer computer?

On a Windows 2000 system, I created a CD-RW thatr uses the UDF 1.02 file system. How does one use such media in Vista? I thought that Vista had the built-n capability to read/write UDF formats.
Are the retail/OEM system builder discs available with SP1 yet? The packs in PC World (UK) look identical to before, but they have a new part number sticker on the back (X13-xxxxx)Will the packs indicate if SP1 is included or is it pot-luck?
Im currently on vista ultimate oem x86 version...and im thinking of upgrading to vista ultimate sp1 x64. but my vista is an oem version,so it dont comes with x64 installation disc.

I am using a NAS for storing all my media files (photos, DVDs, music etc) and was interested in the possibilty of using this drive to stream the info around my house but all the systems I can find rely on a PC to at least facilitate this. Are there any systems that would be able to read the NAS directly on need the PC to be on?
Also are there any systems that would take the signal from my rooftop aerial and stream that back to the PC/NAS so that I could effectively use the PC/NAS as a PVR (the PC has a TV tuner card but the reception on it's local aerial is rubbish and the rooftop one is much better)?
I cannot now open any wav file with Medic Player. The shortcut on the start menu does not start Media Player. If I go to the directory that contains the media player exe files and click on any one of them (e.go. wmplayer.exe, wmlaunch.exe, wmpshare.exe, morph.exe etc. ).nothing happens. Also I recently noticed that email containing Power Point formats do not open.
I don't know if they are related but a couple of weeks ago I down loaded from the Microsoft site programs for reading the newer versions of Word, PowerPoint, Excel, etc.
I have tried to find the Media Player software on the Microsoft site thinking I could reinstall it but all I can find is updates to it. I don't even know what version of Media Players I have. I am using Vista, with all current patches.
I have vista home premium 64 with media center. don't have any desire to hook up the computer to a tV or surround sound system, so is there really any reason to open up and install media center service? I burn cds, do some computer studio recording, sometimes plug a phonograph (remember those?) or a cassette into the computer to record. is there anything in media center that makes those experiences better? when i record off of vinyl i have to set the recording level down to practically zero to record or otherwise the signal is too hot using my usb turntable. it's really almost zero plus a tick or nothing at all. will media center do anything for this?
I like using Media Player 11 for Vista, but currently every time I try to open up the Media Player, I see the Hour glass, it goes away, and nothing opens.
If I right click and use the 'Open With' option Media player will display my tif files, as well as Photo Gallery, but they will not go into the library. If I rename the file from .tif to .jpg it will load into the library and display the file fine. The files are tif not jpg. I would think I shouldn't have to rename the file to get this to work. I want to use Media Center and if there not in the library they won't be in Media Center.
Windows media player stopped opening and I was wondering what the hell was wrong with it. It won't let me try to reinstall, it says I already have most recent version.
I was using Media Center to watch video that was recorded through media center. Everything was fine for a few months then a couple of months ago the sound went away in media center for those videos. The media center still plays music and DVD's fine it just does not play viedo recorded off of the capture card in my computer anymore.
I am able to play those same video's through window's media player however.
