Im currently on vista ultimate oem x86 version...and im thinking of upgrading to vista ultimate sp1 x64. but my vista is an oem version,so it dont comes with x64 installation disc.

I purchased a PC with Vista Home Premium preinstalled. It came with no
media. The product key is on the side of the PC and nearly illegible.
I purchased a DVD to upgrade from Home Premium to Vista Ultimate. With
help from the PC manufacturer's download site, I was able to upgrade
to Vista Ultimate 32-bit error free. I still have no installation
media. I wish to install Vista 64 bit. (To best of my understand
upgrade from 32-bit to 64-bit is not possible, only clean install or
custom install). I'm a little confused by my interaction with Windows

I cannot seem to obtain the option to order 64-bit media, but I am
given an option to order the 32-bit installtion media which I do not
yet own, only the upgrade media. Do I first need to order the 32-bit
media before I am eligible for the 64-bit media? Do I need to wait for
delivery? Can I order 32-bit media and 64-bit media and put it all on
one credit card transaction?
I built my father an HTPC running WMC Vista. I set it up here in the U.S. before he moved to St. Martin (a Dutch island in the Caribbean) - and everything was working fine. He was told to select "Netherlands/Antilles" as the location when running the TV Setup wizard, which he did, but then it insists on a zip. Problem... the island has no zip codes. How does WMC know what service he has since it doesn't know where he's at?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI just built a new computer and am trying to load and DVD OEM Vista ultimate x64 OS. I have 4 SATA hard disks and 1 SATA Sony bdu-x10s blu-ray drive. I have configured the 4 HDDs in Bios for RAID0. I also set BIOS to boot from the Sony drive only.
When I put the Vista disk in and power on the computer I notice that it loads the HDDs very quickly and sits on the Sony for a long time ~30 seconds. then it checks the disk and says no bootable media found. I observed that if I remove the disk and power on the computer the Sony drive loads just as quickly as the HDDs
My new computer came loaded with Vista Home Premium, a Windows version that I find very fast, secure as an Army base or the FBI, and extremely complicated... for me, at least. I am just a writer who needs a PC to just write, edit,file, print, mail, and listen to live music and the news. I can't set up Internet radio stations on this advanced Media Center because the words WINAMP and "live music" do not even show up after I click on RADIO in the MUSIC menu. There seem to be no files for WINAMP or live music anywhere in my computer; however, since WINAMP should be accessible and installable in this Vista version, I think I just do not know how to
locate it.
Can anyone tell me if Microsoft Plus! Digital Media Edition will run on Vista? I tried posting this question on the Windows Media discussion forum, but can't get the website to work. Used this program mainly for the analogue recording facitility (to copy tapes, minidiscs, records to my PC), so even if Microsoft Plus! Digital Media Edition doesn't work, does anyone know of an alternative?

You Microsoft wonder why Vist awas a fisaco versus WindowsXP. Here's one example I just wanna spit and close this laptop, walk outside, and quit working. You can't focus on ANYTHING. It appears that Windows Media Player that comes with Vista Enterprise does not include the ability to play DVDs. When I try it says that no codec is installed. what I need to download, preferably for free, to either get WMP to play DVDs, or a free player that's not too obnoxious with ads. I tried installing the K-Lite Standard Codec pack, but either I did it wrong or it isn't enough.

All media files play normally on other players. I have to state that sometimes I get the message: "The file.... The parameter is incorrect".
Media center keeps popping up, I have not been able to find a way to disable it, so that I can use the program only when I want. It is very tiresome to keep have it. open when ever I pop a cd or dvd in to my drive. I would like some control over which program I use to view/listen to the media I have, and not have one pop up automatically.

Now I need to:
1- know how configure him to open in the "Only Media Mode".
2- do something to block everything, but some games and 3 sites! gmail, yahoo and hattrick.com
To make it clear, i want to configure a user that may only use the media center, some games and access does 3 sites and nothing else!
On a Windows 2000 system, I created a CD-RW thatr uses the UDF 1.02 file system. How does one use such media in Vista? I thought that Vista had the built-n capability to read/write UDF formats.

I don't know if they are related but a couple of weeks ago I down loaded from the Microsoft site programs for reading the newer versions of Word, PowerPoint, Excel, etc.
I have tried to find the Media Player software on the Microsoft site thinking I could reinstall it but all I can find is updates to it. I don't even know what version of Media Players I have. I am using Vista, with all current patches.
I have vista home premium 64 with media center. don't have any desire to hook up the computer to a tV or surround sound system, so is there really any reason to open up and install media center service? I burn cds, do some computer studio recording, sometimes plug a phonograph (remember those?) or a cassette into the computer to record. is there anything in media center that makes those experiences better? when i record off of vinyl i have to set the recording level down to practically zero to record or otherwise the signal is too hot using my usb turntable. it's really almost zero plus a tick or nothing at all. will media center do anything for this?

tif files, as well as Photo Gallery, but they will not go into the library.
If I rename the file from .tif to .jpg it will load into the library and
display the file fine. The files are tif not jpg. I would think I shouldn't
have to rename the file to get this to work. I want to use Media Center and
if there not in the library they won't be in Media Center.

Everything was fine for a few months then a couple of months ago the sound went away in media center for those videos. The media center still plays music and DVD's fine it just does not play viedo recorded off of the capture card in my computer anymore.
I am able to play those same video's through window's media player however.
Is anyone familiar with this?
My hard drive crashed and I had to install a new one, reinstalled Windows Vista, but Media Centre is nowhere to be found.
Searched for %SystemRoot%ehomeehshell.exe as barman58 suggested.
However, the following error message pops up "Windows cannot open this program because it has been prevented by a software restriction policy. Contact your system administrator."
Media center is freezing up when I try to scroll search through the movies or music videos. It says it needs to update something at the beginning, but when I click the OK button the little circle just sits and spins and never does anything.
