Jun 17, 2009I am using Vista Home premium 32 bit and i am using windows mail for all my emails. I also have office 2007 with Microsoft Outlook.
Problem is that i want to use microsoft Outlook but i can't transfer/export my email accounts from Vista Windows mail to Microsoft Outlook or even outlook express for XP. I have forgotten 3 critical passwords so I cannot recreate the email accounts in Outlook....
How can I export my email accounts to microsoft Outlook or Outlook Express from Vista Windows mail?

May 18, 2009I am planning on getting a new laptop computer. With it, I will be getting an 8 GB USB flash drive memory stick. What I will be planning to do is put all the information, programmes, files, etc onto the memory stick and then transferring it to the new laptop computer. Baring in mind that the new laptop computer will come with the "Windows Vista Ultimate Operating System" preinstalled along with the "Windows Vista Speech Recognition Program" on it.
My question is, by transferring all my files etc from my old laptop to my new one, will my speech recognition program work within the new laptop? By doing this, will I not need to train it again and it will be just as accurate as it was on my old laptop? Or will I need to start all over again in the new laptop with its speech recognition program ("Ease of Access Centre") and train it as from new?

Mar 23, 2008The thing about that is that i am using Wi-Fi. So i don't think that i am able to get that info...Is there anything i can do? You can get all of the email account setup information from your emailprovider, usually your ISP (Internet Service Provider). They should have a webpage on their support site for how to setup and email account in Outook Express with full instructions on how to do it. Windows Mail uses the same settings. If you can tell us who your email provider is, someone should be able to post a link to their email account setup instructions webpage for you.

Mar 23, 2008Back in the 60s the saying about Ma Bell was "We don't care - we don't have to." The feedback on these threads makes me think that it's time to resurrect that saying. Microsoft is not the 2nd party - Norton and McAfee are the 2nd parties - we buy their software. Microsoft is the 3rd party that installs their oh-so software on our computers and then expects us to uninstall or disable the functions of the 2d party software in order for their 3rd party software to work. Truly Ma Bell thinking on Microsoft's part.
So I give up - I'll not be using Windows Mail. The question now is whether I continue to have two computers running - my old laptop that has Outlook Express that has NEVER been a problem. Or can I move Outlook Express over to the new Vista computer? (The problem I'm dealing with is not a new one, rather it's one that has been kicking around here on the various discussion sites since last spring - that is that the antivirus programs seem to render WM useless, i.e., no mail in or out and no access to the messages in the folders with some lame excuse about the lack of memory etc. Yet here we are into Feb 2008 and Windows Mail and it's advisors are still saying dump the 2nd party software.)

I had previously backed up my photos on CD-RW which was a good thing as the motherboard and hard drive died spectacularly on my last PC. When I insert the CD in to the DVD-RW drive I get several options to transfer files: Using 'Media Import' (part of Vista) takes forever...and I mean forever - at last count more than 48 hours and still going to transfer about 800 photos (approx 600MB). Shouldn't my DVD drive be a little quicker than this? If I transfer the files manually using cut and paste this seems to be just

May 9, 2008I jus got a new laptop and was using the easy transfer cable from XP to Vista. I transferred the programs, but when I open them up on the new laptop, one says a required registration key was not found. Another program needs a serial number.....aren't these supposed to come over in the transfer? I downloaded the one program needing a registration key and it did not install correctly.

Mar 23, 2008I have a small network consisting of five machines. Two of the computers have Vista Home Premium installed and the others have various flavors of Windows XP installed. Copying and transferring files works flawlessly between the machines except for one of the Xp laptops which has very poor performance when communicating with either of the Vista machines. I can access this computer from either of the Vista machines and transfer files with no problem. However, if I use this laptop to access the Public folder on either of the Vista machines, the throughput is so slow to the point that Windows Explorer will "hang".
In an effort to solve this problem I have: Installed and run Network Magic on both computers...no problems found. I have installed the Link Layer Topology service on the laptop and I have tried disabling the "Autotuning level" on one of the Vista machines all to no avail. The laptop in question has XP Media Center on it with no antivirus or firewall software installed. All ping times are good. All of the computers on the network are connected wirelessly except for one of the Vista machines. I've tried connecting the laptop directly to the router with a cable but still no joy. At this point I am stumped.

Sep 11, 2009Expect to get a new PC as soon as te new ones come out with Windows7 installed in late Oct. Presently using OE 6 and XP. Trying to learn about some of this now, though. Imagine the transferring problem is the same for Vista as it will be for Windows7 probably.
I guess I will be forced to use Windows Live rather than OE with Windows7 My needs are simple, and OE has done everything I require, but I understand that Windows Live is a pretty basic one also. Is it possible to transfer all my saved OE Folder files like SENT, etc. from OE to Windows Live (easily) ?
Read a brief mention that if you go to OE/ TOOLS/ OPTIONS/ MAINT. there is "some" way of creating a folder with all the stuff you want to transfer, and then loading it into WindowsLive. A bit on in years now, so please bear with me. Is this the (best and easiest) way to do it, or?

Feb 19, 2009Is there any way I can move a perfectly working installation of Vista to a new PC? Friend has decided to upgrade hardware at last but doesn't want to lose all he has already installed. As it's really only the drivers that will have changed, is there any way I can get Vista to update the installation. I know in Xp you can do a repair which basically appears to reinstall 'over the top' and leaves everything intact but I can't find the same sort of thing in Viats?

I had my work email (Exchange Server) configured within my outlook and it worked fine until lastweek. It just stopped working and I thought I'll try and reset outlook and try and re-configure but then everything went really wrong.
I deleted all the Pst and ost files, deleted the old profile and created a new one.I configured a new profile and configured the exchange server settings and tried to start outlook but now it only gives me an error saying .... "cannot open default email folder. you must connect to microsoft exchange with current profile before you can synchronize with your offline folder file".. (see the screenshots)................

Mar 23, 2008When I boot up in the morning, I have to wait 20 to 30 mins before Outlook 07 will connect to my Exchange 2003 server. Until then, when I try to open Outlook it says, cannot open the default e-mail folders. And it suggests there is a network issue or that the Exchange server is down. These are not the case. The Exchange server is up and there are no network issues. I have many other computers attached to the network and none of them have this issue. Some our XP Pro/Office 07, some are XP Pro/Office 2003. The big difference with my machine is that it is Vista.
After about 20 to 30 minutes, wow! it connects! And then it's good for the rest of the day. I usually only minimize Outlook after I actually get it open so the connection is maintained throughout the day. I'm not sure what would happen if I closed it completely. But one thing is for sure, every morning, it takes 20 to 30 minutes before it will connect. Eventually, it always connects.
