I have sound turned off and there is an odd intermittent and sporadic noise that comes from the speakers. It happens when there are no applications open and is not in response to any action. It sounds like a single drop falling into a bucket of water. My computer is only 2 months old and this noise has happened the entire time, even after reinstalling OS (due to crash).
View 6 RepliesI just finished setting up my Media Center on Vista Home Premium, got all the latest drivers and SP1 and updates. DVD playback is giving me some trouble though, and I've resorted to playing them on my 4-5 year old DVD player instead, which is just plain stupid when I have this whole machine set up with Vista Media Center. I've experienced several problems:
1) No sound.
I have the sound card stereo cable going into the back of the TV, it's possible that VMC isn't downsampling the 5.1 audio to stereo and that it's outputting it over a different port.
2) Drive noise
VMC spins up the drive, as if it's buffering up, then slows it down, then spins it up again, then slows down. It's really annoying as you can imagine. Is there a way to make it read the DVD video disc at a constant, lower speed? Say 2x or 4x ?
3) Jittery image
When played on a standalone player the DVD is fine. However on Vista Media Center it's a bit "jumpy". You can see this quite clearly for example on the credits, text appears (for example film title) and it's jittery, moving up and down a tiny bit. On the standalone player its perfectly stable.
4) Image colors
There's a warning text at the start of the DVD, the general copyright thing. The background is blue on a standalone player, but when played through VMC it's pink?! Definitely too much red on the output.
I do a re-install of vista OS. It's been like this everytime I do a format and re-install Vista. I managed to get sound through the speakers again by doing many removal of the different drivers/codecs but now I just cannot get it to sound through the speakers. I get sound all the time through the headphones jack but it is a hazzle to get them through the speakers. Why is this?

the speakers are plugged into the back green hole, they work with my ipod and are being detected in control panel and device list.
the only thing i can think of is that the rear panel is not enabled some how, does anyone know how to enable it manually?
I have Logitech X-530 speakers, a 5.1 setup. Yesterday I wanted to use my headset to play a game, so I had to change my settings to stereo to get the sound out of both the left and right headphones. When I had finished, I changed it back to 5.1 through the control panel, but now the sound is only playing out of the left and right speakers. All speakers are functional, since when I test it through the control panel the 'bing' sound plays through all one-by-one. The speakers worked fully in 5.1 before I changed the settings. Windows Vista 32bit SP2.
View 9 Replies View RelatedMy mother board is an abit IP35 Pro. And for speakers I have Creative Inspire P7800. Coming out of the sub are all the outputs for center, sub, left & right (front, side and rear). The output cords that came with the speakers don't fully match the input for the onboard sound card. I really don't want to spend $70+ on a sound card. Seems the onboad sound is rather descent. Sound I spend the $20-30 to get the cords that are missing. Seems that cords supplied with the speakers have 4 leads coming out of the sub and then they combine something into 3 leads going into the sound card. Now when I go to mess around with the sound within windows I can't get anything to be produced out of the side speakers.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have no sound coming from my speakers. I don't know of any specific trigger. A friend ejected my iPod and walked off with it, but that's the only action I can think of done on the computer for a while. Looking in the IDT Audio panel it says the following:
With no headphones in - it shows that I have a pair plugged in my middle jack.
With headphones on the left (mic) jack - it shows a mic plugged in and nothing else
With headphones in the middle - it shows both headphone jacks as filled (the one on the right shows up as filled too)
With headphones on the right - it shows both headphone jacks as filled (the one on the right shows up as filled too)........
When I play music using Window Media Player/Centre the sound doesn't come through my surround speakers - only the front 2 work. when I test the speakers they work fine
View 4 Replies View RelatedA week back, while vista was installing a few updates on my laptop (Sony Vaio VGN-NS130E / Vista Home Premium 32-bit with SP1 running on Intel GL40 Chipset ), I happened to close the laptop by accident. Next time I logged in I saw that the update had failed (obvious.). Soon after I realized that there was no sound from my speakers, but I can still hear very feeble volume through the right channel of my headphones. These are the steps that I have done in an attempt to fix my problem (in the same order as I did it)
1. Rolled my system back to the immediately previous System Restore point (one created when the system was fine and these updates were not installed.) - No luck!
2. Checked, if my speakers were set to default. - They were.
3. Tried recording using Sound Recorder - the file plays fine on other machine, plays on mine but with no sound.
4. Reloaded the driver for the inbuilt sound card. (Realtek High Definition Audio)
5. Installed the latest Chipset Drivers for my motherboard.
6. Checked for the latest audio driver for my laptop model from Sony , installed it. - No luck!
7. Used 'Microsoft Fix It.................
Need if there are settings in Vista SP1 that would affect sporadic severe packet loss or intermittent connection? I am trying to troubleshoot my internet connection. So far, Comcast has put in new cable lines/splitters in my house, new termination at the pole and a new modem. Problem still persists. What I have done on my end before Comcast got involved:
1. Update chipset drivers
2. Tried new NIC
3. Upgrade/downgrade firmware on Router
4. Removed Router
5. Removed software firewalls and AV
6. Complete reinstall of Vista with slipstreamed SP1
I am on Windows Vista and office 2003 and 2007 and I cannot stop my computer hard disk from tinkling away, blue light flashing, when I first put it on, its as if it has a mind of its own. I have stopped it installing automatic updates, uninstalled a lot of the start up things in msconfig and it is still active for about 5 or 10 minutes and is nearly driving me mad. It makes booting up so slow and all the programs are bionic
to start. I wondered if its to do with Word making its thumnails (file searching) does anyone know how to stop this, or any other suggestions that it may be.
It looks like my main HDD is almost dead, its been making some rather dodgy noises all week and locking up.
Idealy my replacement would be a pair of Raptors raided, but i'm concerned about the noise levels, so a few questions for those who have them.
1) Do realy they make much more noise than a 7200?
2) Is there a noticable proformance increase?
I'm 95% sure I want these, but 5% is telling me I should just get a standard sata drive for 1/4 of the price.
My PC gives of a bleeping noise on occasions this gets quite annoying and I have to shut down to get rid of it, It is a four month old PC Quad core Intel 372 gig HD only 75 gigs used on drive. Vista Premium, Windows One Care. I have heard that a faulty Drive could be responsible. I can take it to be checked as it is on Warranty but can they see if it is the drive when it has only happened on five occasions in four months?

View 6 Replies View RelatedI had a problem with my old computer in the last days of its life !!!! ... ... before it was gone .... it had become so that everything I wanted to with it, from opening an IE or Firefox window to using a virtual machine using VMWare Workstation, its fan (and I think the CPU fan)'s voice increased. Now I have a laptop and it is ON most of the time. Sometimes when I come and sit by it, its fan is also working in an increased revolution and hence increased voice (of course its voice is much lower than my old desktop but it is still not the normal voice) and when I open the Task Manager to see if any process is using the CPU very much causing this noise, I don't find any process.
Can somebody guide me to know what is the cause of this? Because most of the time when I sit by it and start using it (and of course simple use not something like starting a game or ....) after some time, its fan's revolution decreases and so is its noise. Is it possible that this is because my laptop gets warm? If so, how can I do something to prevent this?

View 6 Replies View RelatedOne of my HP laptops, HP Pavilion dv9650us, went off warranty about two months ago. I was using the machine to help fix another computer's problem when I noticed that its dvd-drive is making loud grinding noises and is slowing down the computer whenever I would access the drive. I suspect that the drive is about to die.
I am not sure how long the drive has been doing this since the laptop is being used primarily by another family member. I purchased an extended warranty through Office Depot, but that family member cannot afford for that computer to be sent off for an unknown amount of time so I am actively considering replacing the drive myself.
I am looking at drives on amazon.com and unsure if a 'universal laptop slimline drive' will fit. Are the drives fairly universal between manufactorers? The current drive is an HD-DVD drive so I was hoping to upgrade to a blu-ray drive. Is it possible? FYI: These kind of internal laptop dvd drives are not available from newegg or even frys. I'd rather not buy directly through hp.
i've just taken a headfirst dive into vista and as far as i can tell, besides the UAC, im becoming quite fond of it. heres the backstory for my issue. Purchased a HP tx2510us tablet, it came with vista home premium, I had a copy of Vista ultimate off of the computer my parents bought(they "down"graded to xp pro). downloaded all the drivers off the HP website, wiped the HD and installed vista Ultimate x64. Then i reinstalled all the drivers(the x64versions, i made sure of that. Now the issue. Whenever I turn on or off my computer. the speakers pop. This also happens if the speakers are muted. I'm not sure if this is a driver issue, or somthing else. EDIT* The popping noise also happens when the windows bootup sound plays.
View 6 Replies View Relatedmy friend has an alienware comp and it keeps crashing he is running the asus p5 and unfortunatly his warranty has expired it's also running xp it will crash from boot or some times after 10min other times it's after a few hours. he is running a 7800gtx 256mb gpu also, if anyone knows of any fauts this has after 2 years of use would be appreciated i am recommending a new card for him too 9800gt or there abouts something usefull but not overly pricey as he doesn't require it for things like crysis and stuff
i'm looking for things to look for to help him resolve it as the alienware call out charge for him is 600quid i told him to just get a new comp but he would like to keep it for a while i'm going to fit new ram that i have lying around as i think it may be a hardware fault as there is a strange noise coming from his computer possibly making it an overheating issue but when i googled his comp i got a ton of hits on the same fault with the same comp so it's not a one off case and nowhere was there a solution so i figured i'd put to the people.

View 8 Replies View RelatedI'm working with a Windows Vista HP Pavillion PC. No hardware has been modified. I'm not sure which version I have, I think I have all but the most recent update. ~I'm not sure if this is a hardware problem or not, but here goes. Anyway, about 4 months ago, my computer started acting odd. It would make an odd ticking, or clicking noise and start running slow. It sounds like an odd tick-tock noise. It seems to originate in the front of the computer, lower left side. Theres about a .5 second delay between the tick and tock noise. It keeps making that noise about every 3 seconds. It will seemingly stop and start doing this at random.
The slow downs are always associated with the tick-tock noise. I found out that when it's doing that, the computer starts functioning worse in general. Instead of running at normal CPU capacity, it limits itself to about 15% of it's power. Nothing huge is running in the background to suck up it's power. It just goes into "dumb mode". When this happened 4 months ago, I did a full system restore and that fixed it. Now it's happening again. I've already done a system restore. However, it doesn't want to boot up now. It's stuck on a please wait screen. So, has anyone suffered through this problem
Sorry if this is the wrong section but, sometimes when im just on the computer my computer will make a noise. I really dont know how to describe the noise but its like when the fan in your room is turned to like extra fast. Whenever the noise comes my computer just starts to lag.
View 9 Replies View RelatedAfter the rolling green bars of starting up vista, the hard drive makes alot of noise (lots of disk activity?), vista takes 5-10 seconds longer. The noise is very annoying! And I'm concerned that it will ruin the hard drive. Plus my 20 second bootup is also longer. This started happening after two months living with vista - didnt happened at day one.
I noticed the problem after installing new drivers for my VGA and manually installing some vista/office 2007 security updates. Coincidence? I've tried uninstalling the drivers and installing new ones - but no luck. I've also tried chkdsk /r in an elevated privledge command prompt and a defrag, anti-virus scan and spyware scan. Furthermore, the only thing I have changed in the boot up sequence is: adding 4 core cpu support when booting up, and stopping a few startup items. I have also disabled the readyboost service.
I keep getting a yellow exclamation point on windows start navigation sound I can go in and select it and it works for the time it is selected. but as soon as I reboot the yellow exclamation point comes back how do I fix this can someone help me please it annoying and aggravating to have to turn that on all the time. I even did a system restore back to yesterday thinking I did something to it no go still dose it. nothing else broken all works good sound everything just not this one.

Meaning when I record something, it would record whatever is playing on the computer. But I forgot how to make that setting.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI just upgraded to Vista U x64 and am having sound problems. I have a prelude x-fi sound card but the sound coming out of it is extremely low. I have maxed out every thing I can max (control panel sound, creative panel) and the sound level is whisper quiet. I have also upgraded all my drivers except the prelude's, I would but their website isn't offering those drivers at the moment. But the drivers supplied with the card are vista certified so I should get something. But my mobo, etc is all updated. I have been searching for a solution for two days to no avail.
View 8 Replies View RelatedIm not sure if I should put this under update probelms or what, but Im highly confused. I downloaded the Malicious Software Removal Tool, thru Windows Update. (Not a pop up online) After it was done with the update, it restarted my computer, and when it was done, I discovered that it had UN INTSALLED the speakers. The new software hadnt even run yet, so I doubt it had anything to do with that. When I click on the volume icon on my task bar, it says that there is "No Audio Output Device Installed"
View 9 Replies View Relatedso I've been trying to trouble shoot this for awhile...I've uninstalled and installed drivers, rolled back drivers....For some reason I am not getting any sound from the rear jacks (green to monitor) or from the headphone jack. System is a HPa6303w running vista home, using realtek HD Audio. My 'digital output' is set as my default playback, but when I used an RCA cord to 3.5m plug I still have no sound. I can't configure the speakers cause the system is not seeing them...is there any way to 'activate' the analog playback?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI recently switched from XP x64 to Vista x64, and my speakers (nor headset and mic) no longer work correctly on this computer. I've tried uninstalling, reinstalling,updating, and changing all the settings multiple times, but I couldn't get them to work correctly.
The only time I can get my speakers (and headset) to make any sound at all is by plugging the speakers into the "Center/Subwoofer Speaker Out" plug. However, they play only as the center(left) and subwoofer(right) then. (This is while the Speaker Configuration is set to "5.1 Speaker", and I only have 2 speakers and 1 subwoofer.)I can't seem to get any sound out of the "Front Speaker Out" (green plug).I'm using 2 left/right speakers that connect into a subwoofer, which uses only 1 plug into the computer.I was able to get both speakers and headset to work at the same time when using XP x64 and Windows7, but nothing works in Vista. (I cannot recall if I was using the "Front Speaker Out" plug when they were working, but I have tried all other plugs in Vista.
