I own an HP Pavilion dv6000 laptop, that runs Windows Vista Ultimate. The other day I noticed that the battery icon in the lower right hand corner had dissappeared. I tried looking in "Taskbar and Start Menu Properties" and under the "Notification Area" but the power box under "System icons" was avaliable for checking.
im using a toshiba satellite M300 running vista home premium and i have just had the LCD cable replaced in the repair shop.. i dont think this is the problem but before i sent it in, i had fully operational icons in the taskbar including time, messenger, power and volume control. i got the computer back and now the power and volume icons have disappeared. the time and messenger are still there i have gone into properties > notification tab and the option for CLOCK is checked but Volume, Network and Power are all greyed out. i can control other program icons but those three just dont seem to be available.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have an Acer laptop with Vista (SP1). Recently I have noticed the power icon no longer displays in the notification area. If I go to Taskbar and Start Menu Properties, Notification Area tab, the Power check box is grayed out and not checked. This may have happened as a result of installing SP1, which I did two weeks ago, but I am not sure. I did not notice this until three days ago.
I have tried a registry edit I found online (deleting any keys regarding "iconstreams"), but this did not help.
For some reason, the laptop I just bought (Gateway FX P-7805u) will not remain shutdown if the Ethernet cable is still plugged in, and will turn itself back on. Sometimes it's immediately after shutdown, sometimes it's a few minutes later. I am actually pressing shutdown (not the "low power" option button, that looks very similar to the shutdown icon, located next to the Lock button in the Start Menu).
View 7 Replies View RelatedI am not certain, but I suspect either Vongo or Spybot2009 was responsible for one icon-(minimize all windows) disappearance from Quick launch at taskbar. Now I have to right click taskbar for "show the desktop" option to minimize all windows. Thanks God the "switch between windows" icon stayed put.
How do I restore the missing icon?
I have lost the icon to my "D" drive (Recovery Files) and tried both methods of rebuilding/resetting the icon cache mentioned in a former thread. Unfortunately, nothing worked for me.

I right clicked on the taskbar, then left clicked on properties, found the notification area, and the network square is grayed out so I can't put a check in it. I noticed last night that the icon was missing from the start menu for Spywareblaster. I'm not sure if it has been missing since I installed it, but I tried deleting the icon cache and uninstalling/reinstalling Spywareblaster, but the icon remains missing. If I right click on the shortcut within the menu and select properties-change icon, the correct icon is shown there. Not a major problem, just a bit annoying that the usual fixes don't seem to correct it.

Upon reboot my desktop came up minus the little Network icon in the Notification area of the taskbar. Also missing was my Realtek HD Audio Manager icon for my PC speakers. I tried re-establishing these but wasn't successful. Then I tried another reboot and the Realtek icon came back, but the Network icon is still missing. So I noticed that the printer icon for my printer became all white, IE a corrupted icon. So I went online and found information on how to refresh your icon folder. That didn't do anything. So I thought I'd uninstall and reinstall.
I have tried to reinstall my HP software from disc, and I get a 'new PSSWCORE.msi' file. I see the file on the install disc, yet it won't install. 'Network resource is unavailable.'
Now I cannot uninstall it. On my Add/Remove I see:
HP Customer Participation Program 9.0
HP All In One Software 9.0
HP Imaging device Functions 9.0
HP On-Screen Cap/Num/Scroll Lock Indicator
HP Photosmart Essential
HP Update
How can I get these off my PC, and reinstall cleanly so I can use my rinter/scanner again?
I installed new software and pinned the executable to the start menu. But, Vista displays a generic icon in the start menu for this program. All other programs pinned to the start menu display the correct icon. Any way to get Vista to dispaly the proper icon for this program??

Today I switched on Windows Defender(for the first time)and ran a quick scan which was fine, but I've noticed a new icon in the systems tray with a green circle and a tick in it.When I hover the pointer over it, it says "Safely Remove Hardware".I've looked everywhere for an explanation but can't find any info anywhere.
