Pop Up Blocker Unlimited Access, Block Sites
Jul 23, 2008
I bought my Vista PC this year and am having trouble with the pop up blocker. I'm an online gamer, the games use a lot of applets, and so I have specifically allowed certain sites what amounts to unlimited access as well as turned off my pop up blocker. Problem being, it still tries to block sites.

I have a client with a stand alone vista workstation that would like to block almost all websites from anyone using the laptop. I don't use workstation level products and this is a case outside my normal scope - can anyone recommend a product that allows an Admin to setup permitted sites for "user" level accounts on a vista workstation?

Vista Home Premium cannot access secure sites (https). Further testing shows IE7 Cipher Strength as 0-bits, but needs to be 128 or 256-bits.

How do I completely block internet access for a program on Windows Vista? Is it possible? I have already tried creating a rule on the Firewall With Advanced Security for both inbound and outbound access using the "New Rule..." wizard. I choose "Program", next I choose the program's location, next I choose "Block the connection", then I check all three profiles and finally a name for the rule. I have created testing rules for both IE and Firefox but they could still access the internet (i.e, the webpages were still loading).
The columns on the firewall control panel show that the rules are enabled, the action is block and all other columns are "Any". I thought it would completely prevent the program from accessing the internet, but it doesn't. Could you guys give me a hand? Is there a way I could make a program to not see the internet (or any network for that matter) at all?

I am taking a test in my computer, and the requirements say that my computer is not ready because I need to turn off my pop up blocker. Where or how do I turn these off? I use Vista Ultimate and have Office 2007, Internet Explorer 8.

I run a little website which has a popup survey on it. one of my colleagues was just testing it and said that the popup is no longer appearing. On further investigation, her Popup Blocker was on (despite her never changing the settings herself) and the popup was fine. However, our statistics show a dramatic fall in the number of people filling out the survey over the last week, and a high percentage of our customers are IE7 users. My theory is that Microsoft have recently released an IE7 update that resets your Popup Blocker to "on", meaning that no-one can see my survey any more.

I just installed broadband internet on my HP Pavilion tx2000 notebook PC loaded with Windows Vista Home Premium 32 bit. I have not been able to access any site other than Google and its allies. I have turned off the windows firewall to avoid and conflict with the Norton Antivirus 2009 firewall. I have tried by disabling phising filters. But nothing working.

Vista comes with 2 versions of IE 32 bit and 64 bit right so why does the 64 bit version have no problem going on secure sites and yet 32 bit version refuses to do so normally it would not bother me but my Itunes is using the 32 bit version to go to the store (ithink) and i can not sign on to the store to get my music and yes before anyone suggests i have enabled SSL and TTL !

For several weeks I have been trying to solve a problem with being disconnected from internet sites. Tons of troubleshooting have not been successful. The problem is this: I can go to any website and open one or two windows but when I try to open a third (or sometimes fourth) window (especially if it is a 'heavy' activity site, e.g. Pogo Games or some site that requires multiple windows) I suddenly get disconnected. It is as if I am overloading something (I have 3 GB of RAM) or causing something or other to overload. This happens whether I am using my AOL browser, Internet Explorer 8.0, or Firefox...
so it is NOT the browser. With AOL when I get disconnected the browser will immediately try to restart and will be successful except if I have not 'removed' the offending 3rd or 4th window it will soon disconnect again. I try to quickly X out the 'extra' window but if I am not quick enough it will repeat that cycle again and again up to 6 or 7 times until I can 'catch' and X out the extra window. I have no idea where to start troubleshooting but it is very exasperating. I have a Dell Inspiron 530s, 200GB HD, 3GB RAM, Vista Home Premium OS, 32-bit. (Question: would upgrading to 64bit make a possible difference?)
My computer is loaded with applications, large graphic files, etc. etc. It may be that I need to simplify. Also have more than one anti-virus and/or anti-malware application. Could that be the problem? I need HELP Please.....If reinstalling the OS would be the solution I would do that as a last resort because I have so much personal data that has to be backed up as well as dozens and dozens of applications that would have to be reinstalled. But if I can't find another solution to this problem first I can go that route (again). P.S. I also tried a 'Repair Install' and got the message : Nothing to repair'...although that only took a few seconds so I doubted that a scan was done.

IE that comes with Vista was working fine. Today, I noticed that it is very slow in visiting sites but later it came worse. I thought it was a problem with the connection but I was wrong. Using Google Chrome I didn't see the problem also with Opera we browser.

I want to change and accidentally set it to yes when I last installed Vista is getting rid of the setting that remembers the sites I have been too, although I am not sure that this is the right description, so I'd best explain it better. Say you are on the google search page and you start to type in something, well when I do as soon as I have two letters typed in I get a drop down box listing other things I have searched for, and I want to do away with this as its annoying when I try to login to my website as I get a list of my other names I use for other sites, damn nuisance, but I don't know how to stop this.

I have a Vista Home Premium SP2 32-bit machine. I use IE 8 in my admin account and have had no problems with browsing websites. When I switch to my standard user account and use IE 8, some sites just don't render correctly (see attached screenshots). I've tried almost every suggestion I've come across in researching this issue, to no avail, including uninstalling IE 8 and using IE 7, reinstalling IE 8, compatibility view, add-ons disabled, mtu router tweaks, disabling anti-virus. I use Firefox mostly but need IE working for testing purposes as I'm a developer.

Internet explorer 7.0.6001.18000 attempting to add an address to the Restricted sites in the security tab of Internet Options. specific site is search.live.com, but applies to any other as well. response is that Sites added to this zone must use the https// prefix. This assures a secure connection. That response is expected when adding to the Trusted sites, not the
restricted sites. I have in the past added sites to the Restricted sites, currently there are three sites in the list

My computer automatically downloaded Internet Explorer 8 last week. So far I am not impressed! I have found that it does not load some sites (eg. Facebook and sometimes Google), or takes an age for it to load them up. Sometimes when IE8 is loading up iteslf, it goes to a page saying 'Internet Connection Problem" or something in the top left corner. I wonder if there is a new download patch (is that what it is called?!) or something that can resolve this problem, or some way that I can revert to Internet Explorer 7?

I'm having trouble with my internet connection on my Sony Vaio laptop. I've had this laptop for over a year now and I've been connected to the internet wirelessly through a router without any problems until last night...All of a sudden IE wouldn't connect to any sites but firefox and my messenger still worked. Then about an hour later my firefox stopped working so i decided to restart my laptop. Before it shut down to restart I got a Blue Screen and then it restarted. Now it's saying im connected to the network but Local Only and I can't connect to any sites. I'm currently on another PC in the house and the Internet works fine. Also I tried plugging an ethernet cord in the laptop and it still doesn't work.

I have been having a problem when I click on an icon on the desk top that takes me to a site on the internet. As soon as I select the icon, I get an error message with the sites address followed by "application not found". Verizon DSL is my service provider. Desk top short cuts that go to other application programs (i.e. Word etc.) work OK. Outlook works okay and I can still get to the web sites using Internet Explorer.
I recently downloaded Google Chrome but deleted it when it prevented me from downloading Adobe Flash. I tried to restore to a previous time, however, the restore operation failed.

Can Defender block acces to a program? I want to block kid's access to IE7, and in my old XP computer I could do that with ZoneAlarm Pro. Since I just got a new Vista, I am trying to use all the Vista stuff that's built in, rather than going to another solution.

let's say i want to block www.disney.com (199.181.132.250). For that, i enter following command into the shell:
route add 199.181.132.250 192.168.1.254
Subnet is 192.168.1.0/24
192.168.1.254 is unused
In XP the ip and dns is unreachable by browser now. Thats fine. But in vista the same procedure doesn't work. It seems there's just an additional short lag and then the site appears anyway. My guess is vista falls back to a valid route after sensing the invalid route but i don't know for sure.

I'm trying to create a batch file so that I can bring up 2 sites at one time when I open my browser. I use Firefox & IE8. What I have done so far to no avail is created a file as follows and sent to desktop from notepad named test.bat:
without parenthesis in the above. I can get these to open consecutively, same browser window if I have a browser already open. But, not without browser open. How do I connect the 2 sites to open in 2 tabs, same window? I also added them as multi home pages, then sent shortcut to browser to desktop. This does work, but, not what I want.
Is there anyway to create a batch file and have these 2 sites open at start up, by-passing the desktop without clicking to open the browser? Also, I know that clicking on the shortcut to the browser that's on the desktop does slow down the launching process. If there is another way upon start up, will it be slower as well?

When I go to START - FAVORITES the individual sites and subfolders appear in one list alphabetically. When I go START and right click on FAVORITES to open it in a window, the folders appear first alphabetically and the individual sites next on the list. The same thing happens when I have a site open and go to FAVORITES from the menu bar. The list is sorted first by folders and then by individual sites. I would prefer to see them listed as the second and third examples show but I cannot get the first one to sort that way. Pretty picky I know, but it is Wednesday after all.

What happened to my regular msn email application? As of right now, it tells
me that there has been a parental control block on my email, and I can not
receive or send emails. I have numerous emails in que that I would like to
open, and it looks like maybe this stupid microsoft public windows program.
Which by the way, I know nothing about. Please do whatever you have to, to
remove the block on my msn email program. I would like to know that you did
get this message, but am not sure if you could even send it to me. I have
had nothing but problems after problems with your sloppy vista program.
Please tell me how I can get rid of it - I'd rather have XP.

I installed the last windows vista update few days ago, and also my touchpad now doesn't work (it's not a problem of drivers update), I don't know if this one can be the reason of the keyboard problem.
