I have a client with a stand alone vista workstation that would like to block almost all websites from anyone using the laptop. I don't use workstation level products and this is a case outside my normal scope - can anyone recommend a product that allows an Admin to setup permitted sites for "user" level accounts on a vista workstation?

View 5 Replies View RelatedI run a little website which has a popup survey on it. one of my colleagues was just testing it and said that the popup is no longer appearing. On further investigation, her Popup Blocker was on (despite her never changing the settings herself) and the popup was fine. However, our statistics show a dramatic fall in the number of people filling out the survey over the last week, and a high percentage of our customers are IE7 users. My theory is that Microsoft have recently released an IE7 update that resets your Popup Blocker to "on", meaning that no-one can see my survey any more.

I'm an online gamer, the games use a lot of applets, and so I have specifically allowed certain sites what amounts to unlimited access as well as turned off my pop up blocker. Problem being, it still tries to block sites.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have a Home Network with wired 2 - desktops and wifi 2 - laptops and a network printer. One desktop is running Vista Ultimate and the rest have XP Pro. On the Vista desktop I got the discovery on; file and printer sharing on. When I check the network screen on the Vista machine all other workstations on the network are visible and shared directories accessible including the printer.
The same thing with the XP workstatins except that the Vista machine is not visible on the Network screen of the XP workstations. However, if I go to a XP machine and map a shared directory on the Vista machine it is successfuk and be able to access the directory on the Vista machine. Is there a step I missed that the Vista machine is not visible on the XP machines.
I would like to list all the updates that were installed on my system in a text file. If somebody knows how to do it on a workstation running Vista.

They have same workgroup name and I shared folders, etc. I can see Vista computer fine from 2000 computer but cannot see 2000 computer under network on vista computer. I mapped drive of 2000 computer on Vista computer so I can access it but would like to see it under network in order to do some other things. Is there any reason I cannot see windows 2000 computer in Vista under network?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI recently exported all my mail from Windows mail, re-installed Windows, then imported my mail back in again, along with my account info and contacts. Everything has seemed fine, however approximately one in every 20-50 emails has a strange problem. The subject line will show a subject and sender, however the content pane will show a comletely different email, an email from a different sender and on a diferent date.
1. I might receive an email with a certain sender and subject on the 2nd of Oct 2009.
2. Click on the subject and see different email content from a different sender in the content pane.
3. Check the email headers with the subject selected (Ctrl+F3) and see the headers show it is from the person in the content pane and was sent on the 1st of Oct 2009.
I'm actually asking this for Win7 but I guess the same is on Vista. Can you place some web page (or portion of it)on your desktop, like you could do with XP (from display settingsdesktopcustomizeweb)?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI've trouble with displaying of *.mhtml files / content on a Vista SP2 PC.
IE8 shows "The page cannot be displayed", and Windows Mail isn't able to show mail content (IMAP server), but the list of mails is updated as usual.
Currently saved web pages (as *.mht ) can be opened!
(And their content looks very similar.)
This trouble only affects one (restricted) user account. Others and Administrator eren't affected. So reason is located in this special user profile.
The mshtml.dll is ok, of course (only Administrator is allowed to change).
A virus scan didn't produce a result.
Do anybody know how the display of *.mhtml files is working en detail?
Where can I look for the reason of this display problem (with mshtml.dll)?
I have a Compaq Presario desktop running windows vista, home basic, 32 bit. Several weeks ago, the hard drive died. I replaced it with a 500GB Seagate Barracuda hdd. Here is my problem. Hopefully, I can get some ideas. I have tried unsuccessfully to re-install the os using the recovery disks. When I attempt it, one of two things will happen. It will boot as far as the green windows loading bar, then go to a dark screen with no curser, arrow, nothing. Or, it will get to the factory image restore screen, with two check boxes, one saying reformatting windows partition, the other saying re-installing original content. It does neither. Just freezes up. I created the recovery disks when I bought the computer about 2 years ago. Could the disks be bad? Or is it possible I may have other issues?

When I use Outlook and attach to msnews.microsoft.com,messages are deleted for content. Is there a way to access the vista.general group through Google using Outlook Express? The display is much better and the messages are presented better.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI am having a weird problem when I try to ftp files through explorer - certain files are completely stripped of their content. I've attached some sample files to this message. The files that start with "doesnt_work" will get stripped when copied over ftp. The files that start with "works" will not get stripped. The only difference between the works and doesn’t_work is that I have removed some of the content for the works version.
Some facts:All the files are plain text. I've verified that this happens on multiple ftp servers. It happens regardless of the file extension. I've turned off antivirus and netnanny software and it still happens. If I use another ftp client such as CoreFTP lite, or ftp.exe from the command line, it doesn't happen- all files transfer properly This also happens with explorer-ftp transfers on windows XP.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI imported my mailboxes from XP when I installed Vista a while back. I don't know if it has anything to do with the problem, but figured I would mention it. It seems to only happen when I put an email into a folder for organization (work stuff, personal, etc), but not in the mail inbox folder.
Just about all emails in that folder show the same content as one seemingly random email in there as well. On the main list where it shows the sender and subject file, everything is fine. But when I click on one of them, they all show the exact same content in the preview pane and if I double click it to open it. The same sender, subject and body. It even duplicates attachments.
I have Vista in HP Laptop, whenever i put a CD/DVD with Data, Vista see this disk as a blank media. If i open the MS-DOS prompt (cmd) i do dir to the drive i can see the content.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI am a vista ultimate owner, and have downloaded the dremescene features as well as the older content. Recently with the patch to SP1, I downloaded via the windows update when it became available. Tonight I downloaded the Dremescene 3 content as it became available.
However when I go in to see what the content contains, my Windows Explorer crashes every time.... Regardless if through windows explorer or through the control panel window. Is anyone else experiencing this phenomenon? I.E. is it a Video Codec that didn't get installed correctly and therefore I just need to download and install it so that Vista and Windows Media Player can decode and show the previews?

Diskeeper 2008, Outlook consume alot of memory, Search Index, Svchost (some 10 different system programs), etc. So i need more Ram. But at the same time i was thinking of buying "Boostspeed" or a program like that to clear memory, so a shutdown is not needed every day. Anyone familiar with this kind of program?
View 9 Replies View RelatedIm ready to plunge into vista 64/32. My system is up to date 6600 quad cpu, 8 gig, 8800GT (soon to be sli) and yada, yada. I play alot of BF2 mods, RTS (currently playing world in conflict), Crysis and COD4. My worries are drivers and game patches. I would like to go Vista 64, but is 64 good for games? I know I will get hit with frame rate, but hopefully playable frame rate.

1. Had to do windows update three times before it got them all. I had just done the other day the updates for march. The first update had 8 updates in it. Update number two had one update in it. Update number three had one update in it.
2. Had to do the WGA and did pass.
3. Then the SP1 update showed up in the Window Updates and started the download. Size was about 175.mb.
4. Had to reboot after the install. During windows shut down it stop to do some more installing of the SP1 update. It has 3 stages.
A. Stage one went somewhat fast.
B. Stage two went real slow up to about 12% then went fast and stop and stalled at 100% for some time.
C. Never seen Stage three.
5. Os rebooted and during the restart of windows just before the desktop shows up it started installing Stage three and went somewhat fast. After the desktop came on they was a lot of hard drive activity.
6. The first thing that I seen is that AVG did not restart. I just started it my self and all was good.
Things I seen after install and reboot.
I now have this icon in the lower right about some Customer Experience program that want's to run but you have to say yes to turn it on.
Under the Device manager I now have an error under Built-in-Infrared Device. ( No big deal)
Under the Task manager my Processes came back up to 54 and memory is running at 50% up from what I had it dwon to, 41 processes running & Physical Memory is 33% so it looks as if it went back in and turned some things back on or added some things.
I will have to google all the processes to find what is what.
So far this is all I have seen but then have not been running the SP1 but just a few. I will post as I find more things good or bad. I figure it will take a few reboots and some system maintenance to get the boot back up to par.
I saw the demo video and it looks like just an interface that assists "computer newbies" to work internet related items. Does it offer anything unique? Is it worth installing? Because I remeber it used to put a lot of background tasks that do all sorts of things. I know computers are more powerful nowadays but does it still noticably clog up your task manager?
