Seems to be the fashion lately to have dark text on a dark background. I'm still using my Trust Rusty CRT monitor so these are practically unreadable for me. Anyone know a fix without using SeaMonkey or some other complex mumbo jumbo? Just need contrasting text so I can read it.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI've been using Firefox as my default browser and until today all the Favorites and links opened in Firefox. But for some reason IE now fires up and loads the website when I click on a link or favorite. Favorites used to have Firefox icon next to them but these have now changed to IE icon. I have tried "Make Firefox your default browser" in it options but this has no effect. I don't want to use IE if it can be helped but don't know what to do to go back to how things were.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI use a 160 Gb Seagate Momentus 7200.2 SATA HDD (ST9160823AS) in my Asus F3Sa notebook and I have the following problem : For security reasons, the encryption software I want to use check if the last sector of my HDD is readable before installing. As it says there is a problem, I wanted to check by myself using the following command : dd if=[harddrive] of=[output file] bs=512 count=1 skip=[total guaranteed sectors - 1]
Under Vista (see dd for Windows on Wikipedia), it returns an empty file, meaning that the last sector is unreadable. Under Linux, the very same command returns data without any problem. The last sector is perfectly readable. Thinking to a driver problem, I wrote to Intel (ICH8M chip) and they replied "We understand your concern but the problem you described is directly related to the motherboard or hard drive manufacturer, not chipset software". Very strange as the problem does not exist under Linux with the same hardware.
I wrote to Asus and they told to me to ask Seagate... I asked Seagate and they explained to me the problem seems to be software/driver/OS related. So... Now I'm stuck and I can't install my encryption software. What can I do. Could it be a problem of Windows Vista ? I use the latest computer bios, updated Vista and latest Intel chipset driver. The HDD health has been checked with a dozen of Linux or Windows tools. It's in perfect condition.

View 9 Replies View RelatedMS Flight Simulator X with the FS-X-SP1 patch and the Acceleration pack on top running on Vista Ultimate and a eVGA 8800GT-512MB card with the latest official 169.25 Nvidia drivers installed after about 1 hour the entire machine locked up, dark screen total freeze. Had to Hard reset. There is nothing in any of the Vista Event logs to be found.
How is this possible? Suffice to say this machine is absolutely stable hardware-wise .....
I currently am running windows vista 64 bit, one day magically the colors that are supposed to be red look yellow, and also the greens look black. I reset factory color settings on the monitor and through the graphics card (GeForce 7100)
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have just purchased a new laptop with Windows Vista but I am having problems with the screensaver settings and selecting a different image. For some reason the screensaver switches on every 10 minutes even though I have set 20 mins as the time allowance and the screensaver appears as a blackened screen rather than one of the more deocrative options. I have tried re-setting the time/style several times but nothing seems to be changing ---- it becomes slightly irritating when watching media when the screen darkens every 10 minutes!
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have noticed that my monitor has wavey type lines moving up and down (almost like interference)...I seem to get it most when the screen is dark or when loading up a game...for example I loaded up Crysis, Grid, R6V2 and all on the intro screens looked like the screen picture was split in half and you could see the join line..I have tried playing around with the res and refresh rates but not having much luck..got a 22" montior and a 8800GTX graphics card - all drivers are up to date.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have this one old game,Star Wars Jedi Knight Dark Forces II..I decided to try if the game would work on my laptop (Acer Aspire 5520),but it doesn't work correctly at all.The installation progress went just fine. Then I started the game and the intro movie worked well,however,when I got to the main menu,the screen was all black! I could hear the sounds and I could see the cursor,but nothing else.I tried this Alt +Tab trick and thank goodness, it worked.Now I could see the menu and such.Then I tried to start a new game. The small movie clip played without any problems and then it loaded the level for me. Well,the screen was okay and all that, but when I press Esc, the screen is again all black.The Alt+Tab trick worked again here.Goody.So question number one is, is there any sort of way how I can get rid of those black screens?
Not to mention, but using the Alt + Tab trick always is pretty annoying. Edit: Well, no more black screens. Goody! (This is because I did the "GUI windowed" thingy.) However, now that I did that, I have another problem with it.. Blinking edges. (Or whatever that... "Edge" is called. ^^; Edit 2: Yay! Now the edge is gone for good. See my post down below if you're interested.................
Windows Photo Gallery doesnt display the proper colors in pictures and I can't figure out why. At first, I figured it was just a flaw somewhere adn I didn't worry too much about it because everything else looked fine. Just the photo gallery was messed up. Then, I replaced my geforce 7600 with a newer 8800 gts and reinstalled my OSs fresh for my annual clean up and same thing. Photo Gallery displays goofy colors. I'll provide an attachment for details. What's up with it? Take a look at the attachment. doesn't it look like some antique photo?

View 5 Replies View RelatedSo whenever I turn on the system, after I run a few light aplications, like Internet Explorer or PC Wizard for example, the screen turns dark for 2 seconds, and the error message: "igfx display driver has stopped responding and was successfully recovered" pops up. This may happen once every 30 minutes or even around 5 times in 20 Seconds, resulting in a blue screen of death. The latest driver which is currently installed for the Intel chipset is 15.13.6.64.1908 (7.15.10.1908) which seems to be causing the problems. This driver is also unsigned by microsoft, but is the most current driver to date (pcd5srvc_x64.pkms, igfxcoin_v1908.dll, and igdkmd64.sys comes up as unsigned in sigverif.exe). I uninstall this driver through Hardware Manager, but the current driver then goes down to (6.0.6001.18000). Even though this old driver is stable, my resolution is horrible and websites with picture intensive pages lag and flash like crazy. I've been searching the internet all night with this problem, and this is my last resort for an answer. I don't know what else to do. I can't even find a lower driver version for this chipset on Intel's support page.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI love Age of Empires 2 (I own the Conquerors Expansion, Gold Edition). Only problem is that I recently got Windows Vista and have been experiencing these three problems:
1) The colors sometimes get messed up and the graphics become skewed. The most noticable example of this is when the grass becomes mixed with red blotches.
2) I'm having trouble connecting online with other players, regardless of their operating systems. My friends and I used to quickly and easily connect together but now the systems (mine and theirs) tend to crash.
3)Regular crashes about an hour or two into playing
i have a NVIDIA GeForce 6150 LE and running Vista Pro 32 Its been 3 weeks i lost the color red. Mind you it came and went a few times. Also in the NVIDIA control panel i can adjust the other colors but red doesnt react. I have tried many drivers and still no fix.

My photo's, desktop, web sites etc are all normal. My SIL said my Cb and Cr are getting swapped, quick time, media center and windows media player 10 and irfanview players, all are the wrong colors. If I need to install codec's I'll need some step by steps where to get them and how to install them.

But when I run it gets fun: I get a black screen, I can see my cursor and hear the sound. But I don't see the menu And when I click on something it shuts down the game. I also tried to run it in compatibility mode but that doesn't work either. I also tried to change the resolution but that doesn't help anything.
