i'm trying to set up parental controls on vistas. i'm choosing what options i want then going onto my sons page but i can get onto all the adult sites still. also i've put what sites i don't allow as a test but i can still access them. also as a test i clicked on don't allow any games went onto his page and that was blocked so that worked whats going on?

View 8 Replies View RelatedJust got new computer with Vista Home Premium. Have set parental controls to medium for my son. I am the administrator. If I go on "You Tube" I can see the videos and hear the music = it all works fine. However, if my son goes on you Tube he cannot see the videos/hear the music even though I have put "You Tube" in as an allowed website in Parental Controls. All he gets is the little circle (or timer) as though it is looking for the relevant video but, even if we wait ages, the video never appears. I have tried unchecking the "enable hardware acceleration" as per another post on this site but that made no difference.

My children have discovered at school that you can bypass filters and visit sites you want by first using this https://vtunnel.com site and it will take you where you want to go. I can add it to a restricted site in internet explorer but it can only be added to IE under each user account ID and then they can edit it. With parental controls, when I try to block it using Parental Controls, User Controls, Windows Vista Web Filter, Block a Specific Website, I get an error message stating: "only websites starting with http:// can be added to the allow or block lists".

Anyway, when i the setup for windows vista successfully installed, i restarted my laptop. Once i restarted it, some 2 options came. both of the options were windows vista. I don't know how to remove one of the windows vista from my laptop.
Details:
The options come when i turn my computer on.
They come on a black background on startup.
This problem started when i installed windows vista again on my laptop.
I am normally quite good at fixing computers and i don't even need any help, but this is the first time ever i need help for this issue because it has never occured before.
The 1st windows vista option is the new installation.
The 2nd windows vista option is my old installation which i wanted to overwrite.
I am now always using the 1st option because i cant remove my old installation.
I did not do anything to the 2nd option just incase something goes even worse.
This is the only problem on my laptop. Everything else works in its best performance.
My laptops manufacturer is ACER and the model is ASPIRE 5630

My buddy was bringing over some files for me on his laptop hdd running xp. I plugged it into my vista x64 computer via usb and I am having a few issues. The hdd shows up in My Computer and shows stuff in it but when I open it, it says that the folder is empty. I whent to Vistas disk manager and it shows everything is fine with the hdd but for some reason the files just wont show up.

Everytime he wants to install something, either it asks for my password, either it says he has to be the administrator. Isn't there a way he can install the programs himself, without the need of my password and still have the time limit activiated on his account?

My concern is not that much on the Sex or Gore fact but I do have my hesitations about him being totally consume by it since two years ago he had that problem with RuneScape or something like that. I guess what I would like to know is just how adult is this game? Are there predators like in the chat rooms and what have you? or is this just a clean open world fun game. I haveone account, as admin, no password and I already tried "run as admin" for the game but still the same. I started up Vista with Safe Mode to see what I could do on his account. It still wouldn't let me sign in under his name b/c of the time limits....but there must be a way around that. Can I tell if he has used Safe Mode to get around parental controls?
Is there a way to put a password on Safe Mode? I set a password for BIOS, but I don't know what good that does. I know there is parental control software out there (Web Watcher is one I was looking at)....but what good is it if a teen can just get around it?
greetings. how can i access parential controls remotely to monitor my childrens activity on thier laptops? the laptops are running windows vista. basic and it is on a LAN connected to the internet. each child has their own laptop. so having me sneek in to thier rooms at night to go in to the admin account just to view thier activity is a pain. but if there was a way to do it remotely it would make things alot simpler.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI have Vista Ultimate installed on a laptop. The onboard audio uses Sountek as the driver but Vista keeps installing Realtek AC'97 as the driver for it. The realtek driver puts my audio into a situation where I get the red 'X' bu the speaker in the taskbak, along with something about 'No audio device is installed'. When I einstall the Soundtek drivers, the audio comes back and works fine. Windows update has installed the Realtek drivers about 5-6 times in the last week and it is time consuming to keep reverting it back to a functional state. Is there a fix to keep this from happening in the future?
View 9 Replies View RelatedJust installed Vista RC1 yesterday on my Packard Bell R0900 Notebook. Everything went well with the install, until it came to the performance test... I let it run for 1,5 hours and nothing seemed to happen (screen went black in the beginning, but that was all). So I decided to not let him do the test (after a hard reboot). And all looked fine, except for:
- Opening windows give a big lag (like control panel). It takes about 5 sec to load one window!
- Same for the start menu...
- On fading when for example vista asks whether you will allow something to run, makes it lag alot too... (Same when shutting down or logging of (the fade takes like 20 secs).
- When typing something, it takes like 3 secs to show the first letters...
I have been using vista for about a year and three days ago it removes my admin account and swaps My account to just a regular user. Which now I have no control over my vista os. Any time I try to log in as amin, or add software or remove software its says ACCESS DENIED. No matter what I do I get a box that asks for the admins password(never has been one) But there is no where to even put a pw in.Its greyed out and the “ok” button is greyed out also. So to me it’s a catch22. I have even sent this same note to Microsoft and to other tech folks and they all seem stumped.

View 5 Replies View RelatedWhen I bring up a news group, it runs out of control with the sidebar running all the way to the bottom. And I can't bring it back to the top. The only way I can do this is to unplug my USB plug which controls the mouse. Once I do that I can pull the sidebar back up to the top just perfectly, by using the mouse pad on the laptop. If I plug the usb plug back in (for the mouse) the sidebar crashes to the bottom of the screen. I am using a M1710 Dell Laptop. It works great but this problem of the sidebar running out of control while the usb mouse is in use, is a new one. At the same time the screen saver won't work either.

I have eVGA Precision (GPU overclocking and monitoring software) set not to run at startup. but to start and up the default videocard fan speed. then it closes, its a setting in the program. So i have it set to turn up the fan speed at startup. but the program doesn't continue to run. BUTTTT everytime i start the PC the annoying UAC pops up instantly wanting me to "allow" evga precision to run. So can I setit to ALWAYS allow it.. without disabling the UAC

Everything seemed fine except UAC was turned off. I turned it back on and restarted, it didn't appear. Then the next day it appeared. I can activate it - so it says it is on, but then once my computer is restarted it turns off.
